The notion the captain would leave the cockpit to check on an airsick passenger is ludicrous. He would’ve told the stewart “that’s your department, don’t bother me again.”
Agree - but obviously the writers had to come up with some sort of a ruse to lure him out of there so he didn't interfere with the hijackers using the knockout gas or the flying of the plane while they were stealing and securing the artwork. He'd be more likely to ask him to have the flight attendants discretely ask the passengers if there's a doctor aboard. In this film though (spoiler alert) the only one close to an MD or DO seemed to be a vet (M. Emmet Walsh).
As a kid, I always thought you could just conk someone over the head with a blunt object and put them to sleep. Wonder how many guys are in prison cuz they watched too many movies from the 70's?
I believe that the gas that these people are carrying on fort this aircraft is the type used on the medical field when a wounded soldier need surgery they use the scarce to put them under so that the surgeons could perform their jobs on the wounded soldiers they keep them in the fight or to send them home, but this case is use for a special mission here because these men are going to hijack the plane without the risk of killing any passengers and crew so they’re going to use this guess they put everyone to sleep until the job is done.
This is one of the most ridiculous movies I saw as a teen. I haven't seen it in years, but wasn't the majority of it basically an under water soap opera? As an aviation buff I was sorely disappointed. If this were the original Airport movie, it might well have killed the disaster film genre at the very get go. OK, I am being a bad sport I suppose. No offense intended.

I grew up watching this movie ALWAYS loved it! Great disaster survival movie from the era of great movie making!

It actually ended with “Airport 79” I heard “Airplane!” was a parody of the “Airport” movies.
