As one of the four key principles of Data Mesh, Federated Data Governance is on the rise. Yet how does it differ from the classical data governance efforts? What have we, as a data mesh community, learned over the past years about what works and what doesn't? As one of the early adopters, I had the opportunity to explore uncharted territory, but that also meant facing many challenges and hurdles along the way. In this talk, I share my experience & lessons learned on how to drive a federated data governance effort, spanning from communicating governance, building credibility and momentum, choosing your first data product, and maintaining success through fostering a data culture.
