I know the video begins with dismissing Breaking Bad, but I personally think it holds up really well, and is still a stellar show.
Oh absolutely breaking bad is easily a top ten show ever.
The thing about sopranos that definitely has aged is the violence. The scenes where ppl get whacked look comical and havent aged well. Goated series tho.

For me The Thick of It is definitely up there, so many memorable scenes and characters, even for a comedy show the ending hit me in a very unique way.
Walton Goggins as Venus in SOA if fucking hilarious. Dude is a genius haha
Fargo definitely deserves a mention. Season 4 was weak but the first 3 are brilliant

Really enjoyed this. I'd somehow gone my life without hearing the Shield praise, so onto the watchlist that goes.
I wouldn't go so far as to slide it into a top 5, but the show I adore yet never see get any shine is Patriot. Such a shame it got cut short.

Thanks for the recommendations. I watched the sopranos because you recommended it a while back on by the numbers and I really enjoyed it. Shout out to to all of the 1 season wonders who busted too quickly like Prison Break and True Detective.

True Detective season 1 is my favorite television ever. I struggled for a while putting it at my favorite show ever because of the later seasons but i eventually just rationalized that the third is fine and a decent attempt at a follow up and the second is just somebodys fanfiction put to screen.
Im excited for the fourth season, and I hope it will at least be on par with the third season, but dialogue from the trailer so far has me worried.
I could see this would be a banger when I saw the thumbnail.

True Detective was great but its a lot easier to get it right for one season than four or five.
Absolutely agree about Deadwood, a complete gem of a show
Oz had its moments. I liked when Tobias Beecher sang 'I Got it Bad' in both an ironic and unironic way.

idk if it was the budget or something else but after watching couple of other series oz was some sort of a mess;they could have done more with characters and stuff
after some seasons it felt like some episodes they just focused on a completely random character like very side character from motor gang banging another dude from schillinger gang when there isnt anything viewer knows about those characters

Babylon5 is my favorite scifi story. It's the wire in space as a scifi mysetry with an overarching plot rather than just episodic stories.
The season 3 finale of Boardwalk Empire could have been the perfect end to a perfect show. Couldn't bring my self to ever finish the 5th season, it was too far gone
If I start the show should I be good to just watch the first three seasons and stop there?

The Wire & True Detective Season 1 are my favourites - Honourable mentions Entourage, Banshee is the best action tv series ever imo, Barry(Loved the ending), Succession, The Expanse & Person of Interest
I would pay to have richard watch attack on titan because for me despite being an anime it's the best show I've ever seen

Twin Peaks The Return is some great television, only problem is that you have to watch the entire original run of Twin Peaks to understand a lot of the plot elements. Season 2 of 90s Twin Peaks had network interference which caused a dip in quality so it's a bit of a slog unfortunately.
Honourable mention: Six Feet Under. Not consistent all the way through but still a great and thought provoking show.
Twin peaks the return is one of the worst seasons of tv ever made🤷♂️I’ve never seen a show be intentionally awful before. Seriously outside of those shite mcu shows, the return is the worst season of tv ever made.
Sopranos will always be the king of TV and nothing comes close. Want to see Deadwood and will probably soon based on your recommendation. Succession was the first show in a long time that I was truly captivated by. My dad loved Boardwalk Empire but i haven't seen it yet.
Whenever you think legendary TV, you think HBO. Goes to show just how dominant they are in terms of captivating TV

Bro that is literally my favourite series of all time. I have no idea why it's not raved about so much. I've sat so many people down and forced them to watch episode 1. The last scene of episode one where there's a knock on the door, they answer, "who are you?", "I'm Jessica Hyde" credits roll. Gives me chills every time. Plus the soundtrack is really cool and unique.

I agree with the comments here that say Sopranos here hasnt aged well. But I think its more of how we are progressing/digressing as a society. Some parts of Sopranos which i initially saw as brutal and dark now seem funny. I think our being aware of how dark the world is just lets us see Sopranos' violence in a funnier way.
I actually still really enjoy breaking bad. I'm currently watching Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire because of the algorithm. For me Sopranos is a level above Boardwalk Empire.
But I prefer Breaking Bad to both of them. Just connected with the show more.

Richard, did you ever watch HBO's OZ? Once you can get past the graphic scenes it has perhaps the best characters and acting in all of TV.
I’ve seen Oz in it’s entirety and I wouldn’t say it’s a great show by any means. It’s just too stupid and poorly written to be a top tier show imo

I think S4 Ep7 (407 Proxy Authentication Required) is peak cinematic atistry. I’d place that episode alone above the entire top 5 list, even though the show as a whole probably doesn’t fit anywhere above that debatable 5th spot.

Succession is worth your time, especially if you like that witty, Shakespearean dialogue

Sopranos and The Wire are tied for #1 for me.
I don't think Mr Robot or Atlanta get enough credit personally. Shot composition, music integration, pacing/editing, they way they tell their stories was really fun to watch and well accented by the technical presentation.
Atlanta is fantastic. Mr. Robot just got to repetitive and also got bogged down in certain areas.
@@dustmouret Mr Robot S2 def slowed the pace a bit, 1 weaker season in an overall great story imo. I'd watch for the music and directing alone tho, just the way its shot is worth watching for me I love interesting cinematography.

Person of interest start of as case of the week but later on becomes much more interesting
@@NexX35 PoI I tried but wasn't a fan, too procedural for me indeed. Black sails never looked at it ngl looked a bit cheap ? Hannibal was good but not amazing except the acting of Mikkelsen obviously. Thanks tho

Has to be my favourite show, least currently. I know people hate season 6-8 but my favourite scene of any show is in season 7 (the spa scene leading to house jumping off the roof)

Richard has said before that he can't take Hugh Laurie's American accent in it seriously.
Personally, I really like the show, but it did go a bit off the rails towards the end. Even so, I'd argue the first 6 seasons are definitely worth a watch.
