    My Grandfather worked here as a shot firer here in the 60's and a friend of mine Johnny Crombie was also working here at the time the pit closed down.

    I knocked down a huge pile of sand bags . I aslo savoured the local soup in the vast canteen. I learned to drive in the yard. We went to Highhouse aftewatds.

    My elderly neighbour who is 90 later this year said her father designed the building that hides the old pit structures. Don’t think it was ever used she said as Thatcher then closed all the pits down.

    I also remember. The towers had Perpignan Falcons nest. The Curry’s bottled juice in the canteen.
