Biggest thing drivers needs to learn is be predictable speed is not major problem varying speeds without proper indication is major problem. Taking turns without proper indicator is a problem.
There are drivers who drives slow ,thinks he is going fast and thus blocks others from overtaking him or her... any type of drivers it may... just give space...
Exactly man its so irritating they just they are unbeatable 😅 Another kind is : they will act like they will overtake but they never do hence blocking others from doing it 😂
I use to ride my vstorm 250 at lower RPMs, around 3000, hoping that it will give better mileage as the engine seems really calm. Then I switch to real time fuel efficiency on the mid, and to my surprise, the best mileage was around 4 to 4.5k rpm on 4th gear, where the engine feels a little angry and more engaging. So yeah, read the rpm, and don't judge by the sound. 👍
I had watched this episode. Since then I drive more at low gears and I enjoy it. Earlier I used to drive my amaze in city at 40kmph in 5th gea now I usually don't go above 3rd. Now watched this and yes after getting used to going fast going slow now is tough task. But I am now doing that too as now I have more responsibilities as my father passed away in August. He was on dialysis. Now thinking about revisiting that episode about owning dream bike or something similar to it. As my plans of upgrading from current 125cc to 250cc has been postponed.
I'm sorry, There is a big divide between driving like an uncle, and driving like an idiot. There are limits. I define an uncle as someone who drives 10% better than an L-board. This doesn't apply to all, but you do see a large faction of the road driving like this. You know the one who inadvertently crashes into the idiot because they are not paying any attention or aren't skilled enough or pay enough attention or all of the above. Indian roads are dangerous because people drive like this. Even the good drivers get affected by this. With respect to the other side of the sepctrum, You need not be rash to be good. You need not be rash to be knowledgeable of your vehicles capabilities at extremes inorder to be able to react to a situation. You need not be rash to improve your skill to a level where you know you can take immediate avoidance when sudden uncle actions happen on the road. You make yourself safer as a whole, whilst not being an idiot about it.
Uncles are the worst kind of drivers, they hog up entire lane and go slow. The options for us are 1. Get irritated and try a dangerous overtake 2. Buzz the horn like crazy till he let you pass. Simple horns and pass light won't work. If there is an uncle infront of you, you will also have to become a bad driver
When We learnt to drive during 1980s to 1990s there existed cars and bikes having larger stroke, low reving engines where the torque and the power remained at the earlier part of the rev range where we got max pull. It was only when climbing Uphills we needed the later part of the rev range. That's how we were hard wired with short-shifting and keeping the RPM low. No doubt now a days the engines are much powerful but are very frugal, shifting the power and the torque to the later part of the rev range. This meant for the oldies to unlearn and re-learn the newer techniques of driving. I have touched only the "Tip of the ice berg" about why oldies drive slow.........there are many more....... Looking forward to such interesting discussions, Because in today's time (2024) there is no proper protocol for driver's training in India, and such discussions will help many to become a better driver/rider👍
@dark_knight439 OK I feel bad that you are crying.... no hard feelings There is a difference between downgrade and Degrade.... you obviously understood the later part. In short Modern engines are designed for wider band of power and torque, which wasn't possible for earlier engines. I have watched the video and commented on it FYI. Please don't cry
I absolutely don't know how I figured this out by myself but I learnt to go fast first and then learnt to go slow after it and it actually changed the whole outlook on riding motorcycles, and I'm reaping my benefits today but ofc that comes with things I did that I'm not too proud of, but overall it was a nice learning experience.
A lot of people think that being in a higher gear and letting the engine take it's time to built pace is wrong, just switch your MID to instant mileage and you'll see the results, it's simple physics., in order to pickup speed you need to accelerate which means overcoming barriers such as drag and gradient. And to accelerate you need more fuel. While being in a higher gear and dragging the engine you're simply dumping in more fuel and most of it is only to make sure the engine doesn't lug so don't be lazy downshift, allow the higher gearing to let the engine freely accelerate maintain the afr close to stoich and not to mention you're burning your clutch as well.
It depends on the traffic flow, your skill, vehicle capacity and rules. Not in the same order but when all these match, the drive is smooth and untiring. One mismatch and it feels tired
I've seen someone recommend redlining one in a week, not go super fast but redline on highway which helps engine to burn carbon deposits in piston head, which is a good thing to do for engine, he suggested for car, but guess that works for motorcycle too. if we don't utilize higher rpm and baby the engine that will kind of make engine never to utilize higher rpms which is important and makes engine smoother and after a while engine wont easily reach higher rpms. Also imho to be a better driver in India is to learn how to ride slow.
I love you uncle Shumi, especially for the part how can you improve?, i had a maruti 800, figo tdci, pulled it, red lined it, took the sharp curves as i live in ghat area, streak overtakes, etc etc my figo has done 2L plus still running smoothly, now recently switched to Slavia 1.5 tsi dsg, for a sedate drive and to keep power in the finger tip to use it, as necessary. enjoyed your conversation. Doing slow after learning to drive fast is a bliss. 😘
Uncles aah ! Well at my age i would well be considered an uncle, but im sure i don’t ride like one. But dealt quite a few Enroute. And the traits are so similar - No helmet Scooter Turn without indicators Drifting to the fast lane unknowingly Startled by every sound on the road Nuisance to every rider around
That's pretty much my list too. A few other additions from my perspective - 2 adults, 2 or 3 kids, the entire month's grocery loaded onto a 100/110cc bike or scooter and these guys are hogging the fast lane 🙄🙄🙄 Half helmet, with a phone stuck inside it and this person just randomly makes lane changes with no indication whatsoever 🙏🙏🙏
What usual People(NonRider) fail to understand is Riding safe and slow on a fast Road is a crime! It is very important while riding you match the speed of the road! Lest you are driving a tractor.. Then you must stay in the service lane.. not in the other 2..
Driving in low rpms puts a larger strain on the engine, especially the crank, as the drivetrain tries to pull the crank to its speed rather than the opposite. Keeping higher rpms ensures that engine is driving the load and not vice versa
Hard disagree on the reasoning behind why driving at 80 makes you a better driver at 40, if you're used to driving at 80 and drive at 40, it's quite tiring and you're not as engaged as you would be at say 80, so it's actually quite unsafe to drive at lower speeds.
Make a video about how to drive any car comfortably without troubling the passenger with jerks. Eg Smooth driving like people not even understanding when it's shifted.
Think you mean rev-matching in manual vehicles while shifting. Let me give you a barebones idea. While intending to shift to a lower gear, press in the clutch, tap the throttle to bring up the engine rpm by about 500rpm(actually depends on vehicle gear ratio) and while the rpms settle make the down-shift. Release the clutch and enjoy the smooth drive. Practice and get to know your engine. It gets easier with time.
There is another type of driver you guys didn't mention: the driver that doesnt know the way yet drives fast in the wrong lane and then cuts across 3 lanes of traffic when its time to take a turn.
I drive fast at night and when im alone in the car. I drive at an average speed during fhe day and especially when there is someone in car. What category am i ? 🥴
I'm 67. I drive cars and ride my motorcycle extensively. I learnt to handle and service engines from 0.5 cc (model aircraft engine) to the present day car engines. I'm sorry, but this reference to 'uncles' is misplaced. I live in an area of Bangalore which is full of learner drivers driving at walking speed and really messing up the daytime traffic.....none of them are UNCLES or AUNTS. Please don't typecast UNCLES. We'll all get there..........
Driving slow is overarated and overused! Driving right is the thing to follow. Follow traffic rules , pick the right lane and flow with the traffic. I get really irritated by uncles when i see them hogging up the right most lane and moving at a snail pace .

Yea what are they called.?😅
then there are some who get offended and start racing you once you overtake them
Then there are one's who over speed and crash on Roads to kill others😅

Yes exactly, it depends on how much stress there is in the engine.
The best mileage for a bike will always be in 6th gear at 80-100 speed. 4th gear is 1:1 and 6th gear is extra overdrive
Shumi is benchmark for me at 50 yr old

2:30 we pay for side indicators and hazard warning lights also but we don't use 😂
Even the comments section is filled with useful info. Great work man..
In Indian roads, drive like an uncle and keep your family and friends safe... Have seen so many Mercs to Polos crashing into dividers and barriers..

If there was more power in low range why do you need to shift power to high range? Sounds like a degrade, watch the video before commenting 😢😢

2:20 Shumi giving ideas to Benz/BMW to limit the engine RPM 😂😂

In my opinion you must maintain the motion without dragging the gears and still enjoying vehicle performance.. 😅
Right!
Me trying to kearn down shift with rev matching and it fails 😅. My dad like I'll kick your next time you do it 😂
i ride scooter, i am forced to use entire rpm range 😂😂

I Change My Gear When I reach 4000 RPM
I Rerely Rev Quick Most of them Time I Slowly Increase The Speed
The new bullet 350 gives better mileage around 43km on highways at the speed of 75-80. Anyone else agree with me?
The First aid kit has a job to do too😅

yea thats true in highway if i do 90-110 kmph continuously hunter returns38-39kmpl in city with avearge speed of 50 it gives 34kmpl
What is shortshift??
Another question: what’s the basic difference between Lean Burn and Rich engine fuel mix.. ?
More air less fuel = Lean
More Fuel less air = Rich

a person who has skills to go fast will get super bored at low speed and get distracted. Because low speed are not challenging and stimulating at all.
