    My son is completely nonverbal. No singing, etc. I really hope this works for him.

    Thank you for explaining about unreliable speech. I think this is more misunderstood than even nonspeaking.

    Gregory, you are an inspiration. Our daughter had her first S2C session two days ago and she nailed it! We've never seen her this happy and excited. We always knew she was smart; now she can let everyone know. All the best to you ❤

    I am hoping at some point my daughter can do this: We tried for a bit but she never spelled anything. I’m not sure she can but I’m gonna try to start working on some things with her again.

    My son Daniel will be 24 next week we are attending Speller Conference on the 20-22 of July in 2 weeks. will you be there by chance? You remind me so much of him and I went last year to the conference for the first time. Cannot wait for him to meet the community so that we can go to the next level! Thank you for sharing and giving me hope that I can do what your mom is doing!!

    Thank you for sharing! My first thought is that someone should develop a keyboard for computers that is just like your letterboard, the same size and layout but with buttons. Or has that already been done? My guess is that such a keyboard would make working with computers much easier for someone with apraxia. Is that a good guess or am i missing something?

    • @gregoryctino558

      It would be good for apraxia but I think it would be difficult to develop. You are onto a good idea though.

      This response is coming from Gregory's mom.....it is an apple magic keyboard which is bluetooth. I connected it to my laptop and he is typing into a google document. At the end of the video the keyboard is then connected to the app on my phone called Proloquo 4 Text

    How young were you when you could have used this communication if someone had given you the board. I teach 3 and 4 year olds that I know read and understand everything we are teaching, but other school colleagues tell me it’s not functional reading. Although I have repeated this statement, I do not believe it is not functional. Are these kids too young to use this board.

    • @gregoryctino558
      @gregoryctino558  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is Linda Tino (Gregory's mom) answering.....I also agree with you that it is functional reading. When my son was young, he could read anything I put in front of him but I wondered if he understood. Now I realize that he did all along. I do know that they have started children as young as 5 or 6 on the letterboard as long as they were able to read. It also depends on how well they can sit to attend. My son started at age 24 but I wish I had started much younger. The ones I know that started young are well ahead of the curve and using the keyboard now.

    Why not just type into a text to speech type system as you go?

    • @lindatino4288
      @lindatino4288 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The letterboard is successful for people with apraxia because it uses gross motor of the upper arm to point. This is easier for people with apraxia when they are first learning. Once they master the letterboard the next step is to learn the keyboard which uses fine motor. The keys are much smaller than the letters on a letterboard and they are closer together so this is more difficult for them. My son, Gregory is currently learning to use the keyboard with a text to speech system and is doing very well with it. There is a progression of skills using the method (S2C) which helps spellers to become successful if they follow it.
