    Tip for next time: pre-finish those panels before assembly. You'll be fighting unfinished sections showing as the humidity changes.

      My newbie guess - If he does the finish before adding the beading he should be ok. It should hide the seasonal gaps in the finish

    Rich, nice job. Tip, when using the 3/4 black water pipe clamp insert a 1 inch plastic water pipe as a spacer. It will keep the wood raised above the pipe so you won’t have to deal with the black stain on the wood. Sometimes that black stain will go deep in the wood since it acts like a stain. The spacer can be what ever width you want. Regards

    Richard. With the weight of the door you will need to hang the door as you would an exterior door i.e. two screws of the top and middle hinge must enter into the rough framing to assure to sag. If you don't the weight will pull the hinges and loosen 5/8-1 " screws.-

    If you run across an old Stanley #80 scraper plane locally at some point, pick it up and use it to scrape the joints on panel glue ups. It makes it so easy to remove exactly the right amount of material to even the joint and clear the glue. All part of keeping horrible horrible sanding to a minimum.

    Hi Richard, Place a piece of wax paper on your pipe at each glue joint and you won't leave those black marks on the work piece. They're a pain to sand out.

    • @d1986ben
      @d1986ben ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s extra work but if you have a lathe you can sand/polish the pipes quick, wipe with liquid gun blue and then wax. Going on over 15 years and it works great. Zero iron staining

  • @jaycohen3884
    @jaycohen3884 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I would have used biscuits on the joints. They provide a big addition to overall joint strength and stability. Also, be careful to never overtighten clamps. especially pipe clams. You can squeeze the glue out of the joint. This can lead to premature joint failure over time. With Oak, you get a little forgiveness because of the deep grain structure, but on a wood like cherry, it could hurt.

    • @blakevenableoutdoors9474

  • @libertarian1637

    Cutting that router bit probably would of went a lot easier, or may not have even been needed, if you tried unscrewing the bearing first.

  • @What_Other_Hobbies
    @What_Other_Hobbies ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s some really thick panels, “looks” thicker than the door frame. I would cut rabbets on 4 edges before cutting profile just to relieve some stress from that router but.
    1 question. Why not use the shaper in your combo machine? You can run multiple pieces clamped together.

  • @davidsanchez8669

    Good job, but next time, you need to get a shaper for the raised panel.

  • @Mopardude
    @Mopardude ปีที่แล้ว

    With those spacer balls I always like to give them a little preload in case the panel shrinks, but I am also in a northern climate and the shrinkage of the winter seems to be more than the expansion of summer. Just curious if the shrinkage part is not an issue where you are at or if this door is more of a test to see how it will be for you?
