Yeah, old spidey is probably up there with Superman and Batman, I think the only Marvel characters that really come close to the popularity of Spiderman would by the Hulk and Ironman.
Spiderman was a genius idea. The fact that he has personal problems and isn't perfect makes him relatable and the fact that he is so unique from any hero or villain created before or after him is what makes him even better
That was Stan Lees genius really. All his better characters had troubles. The X-Men where an analogy for the struggles the jewish and black community where facing in the civil rights era and earlier. The Hulk's Bruce Banner was deeply troubled and on the run from his alter ego, Dr Strange was about a man having to reinvent himself after falling from the heights of fame and accomplishment, and so on.
It humanizes Spider-Man, making him not only more relatable, but more within reach for the average person And as such it inspired the average person more than Superman ever could, inspired them to overcome hardships, and remain good people even when going through hardships
Back then though I guess the thinking was that superheroes don't need to be relatable because they're above the average man. Batman was probably the one most relatable characters at the time and he was a rich millionaire with personal issues.
@shayneoneill1506 well that's what they tell you. The blacks had trouble and some of the most prominent power folks were jewish. Hell even Malcolm x called it.

But I never saw your photos until I was over 35 -- I could've walked right by you. MARVEL made some of the best memories of my life because I'm still intensely interested in Psychism self training and other life transformation topics because of you two immortal Giants !!! 😃👍

We miss you, Stan, and even now, years later, your words echo deep into a soul, and inspire still. Thank you Stan Lee, for everything you have given us.
This really really touched me. I was discouraged with an idea I had by one person however everyone else loves it. But because this one person is more advanced than I am, I stopped this week. I’m not stopping anymore. 💯
The most important key in all of his message from a spiritual perspective is he did it with pure intentions and THEN Forgot About IT
Yes
One of the best geniuses ever been in the story telling world.
As a person trying to get my ideas into a series and off the ground,I sometimes struggle to find things. One of which is motivation. But people like Stan Lee make me think it's better to keep going and make it worth the while...and it is. Slowly building up to what I have in mind. I couldn't do it without the words of a wise old and very incredible man. Rest in peace Stan..r.i.p.
"If someone else has an idea, don't let some idiots talk you out of taking credit for it" ~ Stan Lee
And thus the greatest hero ever was born, what a legacy to leave behind, RIP the legend Stan Lee
What a wonderful person. Stan Lee, you are my superhero. I hope I will meet you someday in the clouds. May you rest in peace.
unbelievable creator artist
We lost a legend but his legacy continues on for years to come he will inspire generations to come and one day when I will see him in the great beyond I will tell him how he changed my life a legend of the ages Stan lee
That might’ve been the most inspiring speech I’ve ever heard from another creator. God bless Stan Lee.
RIP Stan Lee!!!!! Thank You for all of your amazing stories! We love you!
THANKS Stan Lee & Jack "King" Kirby --- my childhood was enriched by your work in the 1960s. It's so good that my Grandson fell in love with those b&w reprints. But I never saw your photos until I was over 35 -- I could've walked right by you. MARVEL made some of the best memories of my life because I'm still intensely interested in Psychism self training and other life transformation topics because of you two immortal Giants !!! 😃👍
A legend that has touched the hearts, minds, and spirits of countless generations.
I really miss him…he inspired so much people through all his creativity! Rest in peace Stan Lee
Stan Lee is the reason I wanted pursue going into the video game industry, I stepped away for mental health reasons but I plan on going back. He was a true inspiration and taught me that I could do anything if I put the work in and did my best to reach my goals, there will be some trips and falls like I’m in right now but I can get there if I just keep going one step at a time.
That man is my hero... even if he's not with us anymore...
For an amateur comic/manga creator like me, remembering this speech gives me the courage I need to make what I love to do in a world where there's so much pressure to creating stories. Every single word in it is important.
This just hit me so hard because I’m trying to start a business. I’m actually so proud and happy that I heard this a day before I showcase it off to the world. This motivation is exactly what I needed to keep driving myself to do it. Aside from all the negative comments, I will push on because I do genuinely think it’s an amazing idea. Thank you Stan Lee.
That's my Uncle Ben right there. I love you Stan RIP
Stan Lee is my biggest idol and inspiration. He is so gigantic icon that I do not believe somebody could be bigger than HIM. All Hail to the biggest Maestro ever lived. All Hail to the King of kings. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm pleased he followed through with his idea if he hadn't.. my favourite superhero of all time would never have been created.. Spiderman hit home so much with so many people because he was relatable to them.
But also sending him off with one of the greatest sayings in comic book history that most will never forget.
"With grate power, comes grate responsibility"
Thankyou Stan Lee
Publisher: "That's the worst idea I ever heard."
*One high sale number later*
Publisher: "Stan, remember that Spider-Man character we both loved so much?"
Yup, that definitely changed his tune. But as the late, great Generalissimo said,
if you have a good idea, just go with it. And don't let any idiots talk you out of it.
As someone who recently picked up fictional writing, this really touched my heart 😊
As someone who writes fanfiction this really helps me ignore all the stigma 😊 around my group of people.
One of the most creative guys who ever lived. Creative and funny. And he was both to the very last moment. Thank you, Stan, that we were blessed with your presence. You are still missed.
Such an inspiration. Rest in paradise Mr. Stan Lee.🤍
What a wonderful, loving and wise man Stan is. He's definitely with our good Lord continuing his work in Heaven. Love you Mr. Lee and I can't wait to meet you up there one day❤🏞✝️
This is the most inspirational speech I’ve ever heard
That man got me thru and created my childhood. He was like a father I never met. He shaped me as a person..my personality owes A LOT to Stan Lee and Marvel Comics...(back when they meant something (1977-ish to early 90's)
