    I lost my entire rock collection in a house fire a couple years ago, so i want to thank you for your videos. Im learning about different rocks from you and the wonderful rock hounding community. Its giving me lots of hope to rebuild my collection! Thanks again! 😊

      @@benfinds Yes, it was devastating, but we got out of house with our lives. My 2 cats were not so lucky. When you lose everything, it makes you grateful for those little things that people take for granted. Thank you for asking. ❤️

    Awesome! I lived on the central coast just north of Morro Bay in the late 70's and found many stunning, and sometimes confusing rocks. I still have a few that weren't lost in my many moves. Lots of jasp-agate there. I have one that is almost pure chalcedony but has curious perfect little green spheres in it. Thanks for sharing these! I still take occasional trips up there and dream of moving back someday. Literally! I sometimes dream that I'm rockhounding the beach there

      Why?

    • @jenniferbugbee3661
      @jenniferbugbee3661 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a safety director perspective, power tools and close fingers are typically not a great idea. Hitting a dense spot in the rock could kick it (and your hands) in a direction you don't want it to go. I think you have years of experience doing this and take that into account but somewhere an OSHA inspector is going up in flames. 🤣

    • @ritacoslow8885
      @ritacoslow8885 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I was working, my training was as a precision grinder!! OSHA would never let you get this close to a cutting blade with your fingers. This video shows that you are good at what you're doing, but it gives me the creeps as I expected to see bloody stumps any minute!😢
      It's fascinating seeing the secret insides of the rocks!

    Cool CA rocks! ❤ I just got a Hi-Tech Diamond 10” saw and can’t wait to start cutting what I have. What are you using on the blade before you start? Actually I haven’t taken mine out of the box yet. I’m still working on making a rock workspace in my garage. Does what you’re using come with it?

    When it looks like agate but you say it cut easy and is quartz, it probably is a type of calcite. A drop of vinegar will tell you quickly. Quartz and Agate don’t feel that much different to me cutting but the higher the feldspar content starts feeling faster to cut and calcite feels like a new blade or wheel.
    Regarding tumbling, I tumble before cutting sometimes and sometimes slice first then tumble. Good way to really know what hardness looking at tumbled results and vice versa a good way to make too big of rock the right size and/or get nice polishable flat faces.

    • @AgateDad
      @AgateDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I’ve cut many agates with quartz and the quartz bombs cut so much quicker than pure agates

    • @ShadowDeathG
      @ShadowDeathG ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AgateDad where’s the best place too set it up indoor (how do you keep the water/mineral oil from going everywhere) when it comes too plugging it in etc the cord is decent length but I wanted too know if it’s safe for the saw too use an extension cord and the limits on the outlet/extension cord,final thing when it comes too using it outside how did you go about keeping your saw from vibrating too much i know it’s equipped with rubber stoppers I just feel like it’s not enough

    WW. Thank you, Tim and Agate Dad. I live on the Central Coast of California. I have a yard full of delightful beach rocks, and I'm dying to know what's on the inside. Tim's are so good, and some are quite like like some of mine. Any chance I could send a few to you to be cut? I don't know about Tim's white samples, but if I shine a bright light behind mine, the calcite is opaque, but the agate glows all the way through. Try it if you still have that specimen. 🤗 Good work.🪨💎
