    Blooms and branches has really good prices, especially if you buy the bulk cases if you have multiple enclosures to do. Also, Maryland cork company is highly recommended for anybody that uses cork. I bought 20 lbs of assorted flats and tubes for $5 per pound. Cork goes for about $15 a lb at stores in my area. I got some really really big pieces too. Flats and rounds that are 3-4 ft long.

    I think reptile enclosures are a fun way of giving off the life like jungle appearance the make up the lifestyle of that reptile. You want a happy reptile and it is important to make their enclosure pop and comfortable because that's where the reptiles spend their lives. Vines and leaves are an awesome option. Definitely fun time to build an enclosure.

    Awesome!FYI, I searched for probably a month maybe more to find the best prices for wood and cork and found an awesome place to get wood is blooms and branches and they are priced really well. I got tons and tons for my BPs 4x2x2 for an amazing cheap price. Probably the price of 2 of the pieces I got you could get somewhere else for the price I got my whole order for. A great place to get cork bark is Pangea. Once again 1 of the pieces I got ( flats and rounds) would go for $50 or more than likely more when my total order of cork with leaf litter was around $85 and $5 shipping! I believe there was a sale but even if there wasn't they still have amazing prices. Anytime I have the opportunity to tell people about these places I do. Let's be honest we can all save some money especially when it comes to our reptile enclosures. Also, in regards to bioactive I personally think its best for the inhabitants of the enclosure and think you see them more often as they feel more comfortable and I've found that its about the same time to find your animal and remove them from the enclose as it is with a more simple enclosure. But we all have what works best for us and our animals. Have a great day.

      Etsy has decent prices depending on shipping. 10 bucks a pound.

      I agree with blooms and branches. I found them and got a wholesale case of quantity twelve branches all listed as 18 inches for like $165 free shipping. 12 is outlandish number apparently. I thought I had exactly what I needed for a large and 2 medium enclosures and it’s WAY more than I expected.
      Also, I like Maryland cork company. I bought 20 pounds of assorted flats and rounds for $5 per pound. I got a ton of really nice, even really big flats and rounds.

      @@timbow1356 temps and humidity can vary inch by inch. You really see this with high accuracy sensors, even DHT22 based stuff which isn't the highest accuracy but is high resolution, and even in a 12x12x18 one corner can be 10 degrees higher than the other easily, especially at varying heights.

    Happy to see I'm not the only one who use reptichip or cocoblox with a crested gecko. I find they work and since I buy so much for my snakes, cuts down on having multiple diffent substrates

    The enclosures do look aesthetically pleasing but for me personally, they are far too small. For example I keep a pair of crested geckos in a fully bio active 115cm x 60cm x 60cm enclosure, and my two Giant African millipedes in a 45 x 45 x 60 Exo Terra, that’s more space than these adult geckos have. I definitely prefer to have fewer animals and to spoil them with larger enclosures.🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @mrsb1212
      @mrsb1212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@timbow1356 Exactly! I can’t see how a gecko can thermoregulate in such a small enclosure, it’s not exactly healthy for them to be kept at a constant temperature. And there’s no mental enrichment either. Ok, I understand that breeders have way too many animals to offer them larger enclosures, I get that, but these are display animals, so why not make fantastic, huge display enclosures?

    • @mrsb1212
      @mrsb1212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@timbow1356 Very true! And sadly people just starting out in the hobby are probably going to watch this and think that this is an adequate size enclosure for an adult crested/gargoyle gecko. I hate to say it, but I’m a little disappointed in Dav. ☹️

      I agree - these are definetly waaaay too small. I keep 1.0 c.cilliatus in a 90cmx90cmx45cm (bioactive) exoterra and he uses the whole space.

    Another amazing video. I love that the reptile game around geckos is becoming as adaptive and modern as it is with the tech and quality of products. We have come a long way, and it's awesome to see that although they need so little, we can offer them so much, and not just for pet keepers, but for breeder affordable prices and viability also😊

    It would be nice if those setups came with removable dividers so you could customize the size and stuff depending on what kind of animals you are keeping. I'm sure they have to make them like that someplace but I sadly haven't had any reptiles for some years now.
    All these great channels do make me want to get back into it.
    After my ball python died (I had him for much of my life), and I had to give away a couple turtles and some lizards when I moved away to school years ago I haven't had the time or heart to do it. But now life has settled and I'm pretty close to getting back into the hobby.... if I can convince the wife 😅. I know she wouldn't go for a snake, unfortunately but maybe a gecko or chameleon would be ok lol

    It may be cost effective... but doesn't it look a bit cramped? Especially for housing crested and gargoyle geckos that kind of need a bit of height in their enclosures to feel happy. Also, that first crested gecko you put in also seemed to slide a bit with his foot when he tried to stick to the wall and looked very much like he was wondering how to make it work, so if you were to still use that setup, wouldn't it atleast be a good idea to put like a thin fake bark wall on all three white walls?

    how long before those suction cups come loose and fall off? Those seem pretty heavy if it came loose and fell on one of your geckos. Never had a single plant, vine, or item with a suction cup that stayed on for more than a few weeks.

  • @dm2836

    What size are those enclosures?
    I thought 18”x18”x24” was bare minimum for an adult crested or gargoyle…?
    Those individual cubbies look smaller than that.
    I love the look of them and I am running out of room fast with these big glass enclosures. :(

    I can be scatterbrained... I saw myself washing the fake plants in the dishwasher, hanging them to dry outside, and about five minutes later, I'd be trying to hang my plates to dry too, and pop my socks in the dishwasher... ;) Good idea, though, didn't know they held up for that...

    Enclosures are a market begging for inexpensive, vacuum formed options. I get wanting to splurge for adult, long term enclosures, but imagine being able to buy essentially storage tubs that are the right size and open in the front with an option to have a screen top, maybe with a replaceable plastic cutout over it. Vacuum forming I believe is what keeps 40 gallon tubs at under 20 bucks per, 100 gallons for under 50 bucks etc.

    • @stefaniasexoticaladventure9019
      @stefaniasexoticaladventure9019 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the problem is shipping and development cost. Vacuum formed abs may be light, but it can't be flat packed and will still cost a bit to ship. Also abs has skyrocketed, 55 gallon hdx bins at home depot went from $25 to $50 over the past year. There's also a lot of RnD cost in protyping vacform molds.

    • @reptilez13
      @reptilez13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stefaniasexoticaladventure9019 that's def all true, but I feel like it would still be under the 400$ a 4x2x2 enclosure can be. There's supposed to be some new 250$ PVC options coming that include shipping (or low cost, 15$ shipping) but they are listed as Coming Soon everywhere. I just think the market would eat up 100$ 4ft enclosures to the point it could be small profit at scale type of situation, where now I think most enclosure selling endeavors are large profit with less items sold, like mattresses lol. Maybe I'm wrong tho, just think there's gotta be another option. Especially right now when most aren't even in stock, I'll be buying my own PVC or Melamine for a while I think (or used Exoterras etc)

    They look like nice cages. But from the looks of it they are too small for my liking. Adult geckos should have at least 20 gallons of space imo, these look to be 12inch cubes. They're nice, but too small.
