Might be recency bias, and not to say older anime don't have absolute bangers, but the last few years have raised the bar so high in terms of openings

To be honest, it depends on when you started watching anime. Some people think that the 90s were better in every way. When there were limited numbers of songs, not mass-produced like today, each one was very well made and was cutting-edge at the time.
@@deen7085 Nostalgia and personal preference definitely play a part but saying openings today are mass produced is just not true. Maybe some of them are but every season has so many different series running that the amount of high effort good music just cannot be lower than back when there was 4 anime a season.
