Hi Chris another great video. The spark arrester as you call it is a stand off cowl to go round the chimney where it meets the tent. It stops the chimney melting the tent. Also never exit the tent behind the stove. You could knock it over. Use one of the other doors well away from the fire. Just a bit of my old airport fire training kicking in mate to keep you safe.
Glad to see you trying something new mate. This is my type of camping. Nothing worse than being crammed into a tiny tent not able to do anything. For the winter, it’s a game changer but don’t knock it in the summer either. The extra room also allows a small cot which for me was even bigger than the hot tent. Just getting off the ground makes a huge difference

Sure someone will have already said but I can’t be bothered to check so will say it anyway….keep that 4 metre chimney it will stop you getting any burns in your tent mate and you need wood in that stove to cook with,the coals are ideal if you only want to gets some warmth into the tent,you need some roaring flames touching the top of the stove.wit some time to prep would you shouldn’t have too much of a problem getting a fire going using some natural stuff,just use lots and lots of small twigs until you get a coal base going. Loved the video mate,hot tenting is the best!

Hey Chris great vid as always, I watched it the other night, but was too late & tired to comment...😴 Really enjoyed it & laughed, as I got my 1st Hot-tent set-up last year...!👍 Learn the hardway or by ya mistakes/mishaps, is very true...!😄 I see u had the chimney/fire-damper on the wrong way round & in closed position while trying to get it going...!🤣 As someone else said in another comment, the higher the chimney, the less likely U R to get tent burned by embers, as they have further to travel up & possibly down onto tent, like I managed to do...!☹️😆 But 4m is is quite massive on that tent, 3m max I reckon...🤔 Mines only 2m but it's on a smaller 2man Teepee tent & that looks big enough on it... I tried using pallet wood, which i discovered is fine for kindle, but burns way too quick, so seasoned, ideally hardwood I think is best... I chopped up a broken/fallen branch from an Ashtree on local play field the other month & got about 150kg out of it which is now cut, split & drying...👍 All good fun init... I slot chimney over/around the damper connector & had a large jubilee type clip with it that goes around to tighten chimney to stove... My spark arrester cap has 3 guyline points on it, being essential if any wind, especially if it's 4m high...!😯🤣 Best wishes dude & keep up the great work...👊

Ive not been.camping much but when i have ,a camp fire is absolutely essential, couldn't imagine going camping and not having a fire to sit around and just sit and watch the flames dance
Also... Keep some of the wood / kinderling to one side for lots of flames an a quick flare of heat when you want to cook and the fuel pellets for when you want some even, long burning heat, to last for the night. I'm sure it won't be long till you work out how to get the best from it.

Next time Chris don’t bother with the coals. The stove is designed to work with materials like wood. The thermal combustion properties of smokeless fuel is not too good. Stick with wood and it will cook better.

Great little stove. But to get enough heat from it to cook. You'll need to stack it with wood. That coal stuff you're using won't be enough to cook on. "Looks like a baby's shit" Brilliant. I've never had a hot tent camp. As much as I'd like to try it, most TH-camrs I've watched say it's constant work keeping the stove stoked so you won't sleep much and the tent gets too hot? Anyone else had that experience?

Definitely lessons learnt . Kilm dried wood is the only thing smaller amounts feed constantly. Took me about 2 hours to cook that meal 😂
