- Hey Horse Lovers, I have an update regarding Prince Charming my Auction Appaloosa Horse. Over the past 12 months we have been on a long journey and a roller coaster of a ride regarding his rehabilitation. In this video I'm going to give you the results of what we discovered during his MRI at OSU and what our plan is following that. When you own horses there is a lot of good, but their can also be difficulties. I am here to share my journey with you no matter what happens good or bad. Dying is not the worst thing for a horse. Being in pain and locked in a stall is no way to live for a horse, and is worse than death. You made the right decision.

I lost my beautiful equine partner in February severe. Arthritis laminitis and bursitis he was in so much pain short periods of being ok, mostly not. I said goodbye to my love. He rests now no more pain. I will never get over this. I was there when he was born, he passed when he was 22. My dressage partner my best friend. I am crying with you.

Let the horse do his own thing in the pasture. I’ve had arthritis for years.
The issues only started off with a slight limp, it’s not severe yet I’m afraid lovely. Let all the vets go and let the horse live his life in the pasture until it’s too bad.
When you originally showed us this horse - he looked in a lot less pain than me, and I’m okay. I think you are assuming he’s in untold pain. Hey’ perhaps I’m wrong.

My vet said to me “sometimes the kindest thing you can do is say goodbye” and it will always stick with me. 100% agree with your take on quality of life. It is an unfortunate fact that many pet owners have to face. So sorry you are going through all this. Everyone knows you poured your heart and soul into this sweet boy.

I agree 100% with your decision. I recently had to have my 15 year old dog euthanized due to severe arthritis in her legs. She had been too loyal a companion to let her suffer in pain and with a decreasing quality of life. It was the hardest decision I have made in my life but it was simply wrong to let her suffer because I was unwilling to be without her. Keep your memories of Prince Charming close to your heart. ❤
You have done everything possible for that horse. He has had the last 12 months or so treated with respect and everything and you’ve done such a great job taking care of him.
It is sad for you because you understand what is happening and all of the issues around that but the horse knows none of this. He is in pain. He knows that. You can end the pain and you know the issues around trying to keep him. Your decision is the right one. He will simply peacefully go to sleep. I put a horse to sleep because he had permanently injured his front leg. He was a lovely sweet horse. I could not afford keep a horse that could not be ridden. It is always very sad for the owner who cares for that horse. It is not sad for the horse, who knows nothing. You know you did everything you could do.
Oh my gosh, you have been the best person to have come into his life at just the right time for him. I'm sitting here with tears coming down my face. I totally understand your whole explanation. I have to come to the same decisions with my pets. You have all my prayers and love, and so does Prince Charming. I grieve so bad when I have to make these decisions. You did the right thing. Trying to squeeze a week or few more months is not the right path. Loving them enough to let them go - is the greatest gift. Limping, flinching is response to pain. Prince Charming was fortunate to have come to you. Time to begin a ‘“Wall of Fame”: all the horses, that have come and gone - crossed through your life. As a horse owner of 40 years we have had to make this type of decision several times. Just last week I had to put down my retired trail horse because of neurological problems. The vet was confident there is no fixing the issue and the incidents would happen again and more often. The strength you have to make this kind of decision is releasing Prince Charming from a future life of pain. Thank you for caring so much for your horses and giving them the best life possible. I am 50 and a retired RN. I know it's hard for some people to understand that throwing money and medicine at a problem can make it worse but you have made the right decision. I am so proud of you for sharing it on the channel it is so BRAVE. You could have lied and made up a "colic" emergency or something easy like that. I had horses when I was younger and hope to have some in the coming year or two. I APPRECIATE SO MUCH the knowledge you share about buying auction horses and how to be prepared. It hasn't scared me off, it has made me more sound in my decision. Please dont let any negative comments make you feel any worse than I know you already are, it is a hard choice to make on behalf of an animal, but the right choice. So true! Also-repeatedly getting injections can cause more pain and you risk introducing bacteria!!! Injections HURT!!! I have had SO many into joints & into my spine!!!
Yes and for something you love and want to give a life that’s what you do for it a horse is the best friend you will never be able to replace but I’m to young to be spending money on my horse just to save her for a few years and my parents won’t spend the money I think it would just be best to put her down now yet they are making her suffer by saying she still has life and she doesn’t she made the best decision I hope he’s better even though she spent money that she could have saved she did it anyway and gave him another year of life in a good home
I appreciate your honesty, common sense, and courage to show heartfelt emotion. Don't allow anyone to cause you to second guess any of your decisions. They were sound in every way. I am glad Prince Charming's last year was with you, and if he could talk he would tell you it was a tremendous blessing to him, tho I know it has been hard on you. Take comfort in the fact that you tried every wise option and put in many, many hours of work in an attempt to save a sweet and gentle soul. The final act of kindness
As a 66 year old woman who has had dogs all my life. I’ve had to put down several pup babies. It’s never an easy decision but I myself wouldn’t want to live like that. You made the best decision for Prince Charming. He couldn’t live pain free that’s no way to live. There comes a time when it’s the best for him. Prayers for you!!

After having to put my 2nd young cat down in less than a year(4 years/5 years old), I was broken hearted and questioning my ability as a pet owner 💔. I was told by a co-worker that God gave me the special kitties that needed to be heartly truly loved
I have always remembered that generous sentiment that helps me to understand we don't know why things happen. We just need the faith to know that God does. Prince Charming knows what being heartly truly loved means ❤️
Agreed, because we don't want our furbabies to suffer. And we have the responsibility to let them go peacefully and pain free.
Best decision possible. I would not want to have one of my pets living in pain. I have 2 pasture horses. One is doing great, the other one is not doing as well as I think he should. I’m working through his issues and praying I find the formula to get him back on the road to health. Completely agree with the decision.

You know that we are spirits having a physical experience. Ask him to come to you in a dream and let you know he’s all right.
I had that happen with my first Sheltie. He’d been gone for about 2 years. I spoke to his spirit , saying “Noah, you’ve been gone for two years and you haven’t even come to see me in a dream.”
A couple weeks later, i had a dream where we were at the veterinarian’s office where he was put down, only this time he was lying in a box and my Mom, Dad, the veterinarian and I were all dumping cups of water (emotion) over him. Gradually the water covered him.
In a moment, I saw one of his ears twitch, then he raised his neck and then he jumped up and shook off all the water. “Look at me, I’m as good as new and you don’t need to be sad any more!”
He was no longer in the old, broken-down body. He was back in his prime, letting me know he loved me and was as good as new in the spirit realm.
Maybe Prince Charming will visit you in dreams if he hasn't already.
It's hard to let them go, but you've done him a great kindness by giving him a loving ending to his earthly life. I know he's grateful!

The Native peoples called the horse the sacred dog. If you love deeply you know the connections that are made with all animals. I’ve had horses for 60 years and have experienced the same issues in one of my horses. They will never get better and will only get worse over time. And to the person that said he wasn’t in pain, limping is from pain. No pain, no limp. You are 100% doing the right thing for Prince Charming. To actually make this decision, after so many months of trying and all the money and love that you gave him, shows that it wasnt taken likely. His well being was above all and to take this road shows how strong you are!
I know this is an older video and I don’t want to open wounds but I very much appreciate this video and without a doubt you made the right decision for Prince Charming. I have been in dog rescue for 13 years and recently read the greatest article about how the rescue community has almost gotten out of control with saving animals often times at the detriment to the animal they are saving. When I was a vet tech my biggest issue was people waiting too long to end suffering for their own selfish needs. This is a brave video and you should be proud.
My dog just all of a sudden went from healthy to kidney failure, and I just took him to the vet yesterday and I had to put him down. I had to think of HIS quality of life plus the money in doing ICU for three days plus vet charges, could be 10,000 to have him be sick and feel bad. It's really hard. I understand. I send prayers out to you. You did the BEST you could. He taught you what he was to teach. You both completed your contracts.
This was such a hard decision for you to make. Please know that the fans that are here, truly, understand that. You're looking out for him in front of your own needs. I'm just so glad that Prince Charming ended up in your hands, and not somebody else's. We are behind you 100%. I'm thinking of you in this difficult time.

I'm a 54 year old woman whose a veterinarian tech plus owned horses and other animals my whole life. You are honestly doing what's right for your horse. It comes down to 100% quality of life and he will always be in pain even on bute. I know it's hard and truly heartbreaking but you made the right decision. ❤

I know this is late, that happened a year ago. This and the video before that I watched. You did the kindest thing you could for him. That is the point, it is all about what is best for Prince Charming. Our feelings do not trump what is best for a living creature to live a quality of life without pain. To do otherwise is selfish in not wanting to let go. That is the greatest love you gave him, you gave him a chance, and you did everything possible to make him physically comfortable. God bless you for making the hard decision of doing what was best for him. And not looking at how much it is going to hurt when he dies.

I had to put down my horse last November. The decision is utterly heartbreaking. You have my deepest sympathy and I hope you find peace with your decision, I know you did the right thing for him.
Good people do what you did. Not good people haul them to an auction for a few $ and leave them to untold misery and pain, until they are sold to kill buyers.

You did the best for him you could possibly do, and no one could ever say anything different. He wouldn't be happy and he would be grateful for your kindness. I worked in the vet field for 16 years, animals mask their pain, they can't tell you they are hurting, look at these animals that look so bad but are wagging their tail, and not showing they hurt. There are people who don't understand how animals are and what you need to do to make sure you take care of them. We in the Veterinary field know and understand them differently than regular people 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

I definitely feel for you shae, last night we had to put down our 26 year old gelding after a freak accident. You have really helped me get through the loss of my first horse and you have put a smile on my face. I bet they are running together painless in heaven right now. Thank you and I am so sorry for you loss but you made the best decision for him and I completely understand ❤

Believe me, Prince Charming is thanking you right now...never easy, but ALWAYS a part of having our four legged friends enrich our lives, for a time. Sobbing right now for you and Kyle. I commend you for being one of the smartest, strongest women I've ever known (and I do feel I know you!) Lots of love and hugs to you, and many, many thanks for taking on this beautiful creature and letting all of us be part of his journey. You're right. It's not all rainbows and butterflies, but for the time Prince Charming was with you, it was for HIM. He finally got the love and care he so deserved, for at least one of his 18 years of life!

You did the right thing, Shae. My barn had a sweet retired gelding named pickles we had to put down because he was in extreme pain. Most of the OGS at the barn (including myself) learned to ride on him and it was super sad to see him go, but it was right for him. I really do feel bad for our other retired horse though because he and pickles were best friends. Love from SC, Stardust Edits/kendall.
You have made the very best decision for Prince. I am a long time horse owner, and have had to make this decision 3 times. You went above and beyond the "call of duty" emotionally, physically, and financially. You put your whole heart into it. You must feel good about what you've done for him. hugs (new sub here)

I had to put down my childhood dog in college due to her falling ill at 13. I can't imagine how much harder it is with an animal that you have so much work into. Sending you virtual hugs.

Charm had almost 18 years of life, and animals don't think about the future, they don't understand death, they just exist in the moment. They don't fear or worry like we do about the end of our lives. So when it comes, as long as its not painful, they have no concept of it. You did your best and that's all anyone can do. xx

Prince Charming was a friendly, affectionate, goofy, vibrant soul. To keep a sweet, social animal like that trapped in a stall for months at a time, over and over, would be unkind. He would never have been able to run or play in the herd properly, at the risk of reinjuring himself. Trust when we say, having watched you every day. *You’ve done the right thing. He understands. And when you see him again, he will thank you.*
When you share your life with other living beings is a double-edged proposition...so much joy, so much sorrow. You made the right choice. God bless you.

If we love our animals we know them their happiness love for us and pain they suffer quality of life is most important to us all but our babies depend on us to love cherish and care and appreciate what love and acceptance they give and they trust us to do what is right for them I have been in your position and send love to you in your address and loss.❤

A friend who is a vet one day said to me when I asked how you know the time is right and her words stay with me every time I have to make this hard decision with one of our rescue's and that is... A day to early is better than a day to late ❤

Shea I'm late to offer condolences as I just found out about Prince Charming with your celebrating his life video last night. As a fellow horsewoman who has had to euthanize several beloved horses/ponies over the decades, only YOU knew what was best for Prince Charming.
The ones viewing you on your channel only get a small snapshot of what goes on in you life and the life of your horses. When I saw the last clip of Prince Charming, with his grade 4 out of 5 lameness. I knew it wasn't good. It's so hard to let go, hoping against hope that whatever is going on is fixable. I know you did the best for him even with your heart breaking. Ignore the ones who want to cast a stone in your direction. They have no idea of the pain you went through to come to the decision you made.
Bless you for caring so much for a horse who had been thrown away. You gave him a wonderful last chapter of life. You did the best for him!❤😢
Animals cannot deal with pain like humans do.they can’t reason and make life adjustments. He is a horse inside and out just like you are saying. To make this decision is so very difficult, horrible, sad, distressing. I’m totally behind you. Wish could be there to give you hugs and in person support! Keep hanging in there! I know you will take the love you have and share it with another horse. Keep on keeping on!
