One thing I am realizing is that some folks might be "unselecting" the tracks that you are looking to relink. At about 1:07 there is a quick note on the screen about this, but just double check everything is highlighted. Additionally, I have spoke to some people that forgot to hit the "commit links" button which I discuss at about 3:18. Trying to help everyone best I can!
Thanks you very much for this. I've come back to this video multiple times. It's a very clear explanation however what if the orange links are not showing up. I've saved the tracks to an external hard drive so I know exactly where they are, but no orange links. Is this possibly because the tracks I am saving are the ones that are already missing in my daw?
@@robvendetti Could be, but every once in a while something funky happens with a files name with what is called an illegal character. For example if the file is called "Sound File's" the apostrophe is the problem and you have to drag into the relink window and Find All Candidates. I'll try to make another video about this - but 9/10 times if you search properly, that means the files is not there.
@Chris Morocco Sound Thanks! I think the issue might be that when I was recording originally, I was saving to Apple cloud (which I'm told is a no no), continued to work saving new tracks to a hard drive. Will have to figure out how to move missing tracks from Apple cloud to my Mac, then try linking once again... I appreciate the help!
@@robvendetti you can drag file into bottom of relink window and try to Find All Candidates one at a time. Don't have a video for this yet but every once in a while files get stubborn and will not relink.
Dude, I spent two hours trying to find a better way to link files so I wouldn't have to do one at a time. This video probably saved me about eight hours of work re-linking. Thank you!!!
Thank you...Seriously. I've searched dozens of videos just to fix this simple problem. All of them are misleading with extra and pointless steps. You just nailed it simply
My experience was a bit different. This video got me halfway there, which is still not bad. After finding and selecting the folder containing the audio file, I had to click on "Find all candidates" in the bottom of the window. Only then did it give me a list of the possible audio files. "Find Links" at the top was greyed out the entire time. I then manually linked the file in the bottom "Candidates" window and I clicked on "Commit Links" and it worked. That was the only possible way in my case. Still, thanks for the video, it help me with finding the solution.
what about when you didnt move anything. youve been working on a song for a week. pro tools crashes mid session. and not even your back ups will work and have proper file location
Thank you so much!!!! You've just saved me a full day of linking 4000 clips one at a time. I always just left the box default, never worked so had to do a clip at a time. Phew!
Thank you. I had an issue relinking some .wav files. It was not until I narrowed the search down to specifically 'find by name' that the session located them.
This isnt working for me find links is grey out unless i select from the bottom list but when i click find links i get taks manager saying there an error relinking? any help or solution?
Good tutorial. I didn't realize the issue with the unique id when moving files from one location to another. Searching by name in a specific folder did the trick!
Thank you, thank you, thank you very much! This was driving me crazy. I've tried all the options, but choosing this unique option (find by name) in an specifc narrow searching was the only solution. God bless you, my friend!
The problem I’m having is that it shows the my files are corrupted when I try to re-add them to the clips. The worst part is that it has happened to all 14 songs on my external hard-drive, which was a project I have been working on for months, and now I can’t get anything to work. I don’t know what happened but at this point, all I can think of is that months of work have now gone to waste.
That's a really good question and I am going to give a quick answer but I will look for something better. You can simply close the session and open again and that window will come back. Otherwise I am still looking for that answer myself!
Hi Chris I was working on a session wich was 48 kHz and than suddenly went to 44 kHz and I can’t find the way to get back on 48 kHz thanks for your help
There are two things that come to mind, the first is you could go to Setup > Session and change the session back to 48khz. However, if all of the files have been converted to 44.1hz then you might have to do a sample rate conversion (src). I don’t have a video on the but you could follow my Import Session Data video and transfer the files from this old session into a new session. Hope this helps!
Bro you just saved my me lol I had about 30 song files that I accidentally cleared the audio files from into another folder. About 💩’d my pants but you saved the day!!! Thank you!!
Hmm, maybe quit and try again? If the box does not pop up, that might be a glitch. Otherwise try to right click the missing clip and see if you can access some version of "relink offline".
Yes, might be hard to explain over comments but there is a little red error box under that main transport / timecode window that you can click and it will pop open the relink window again.
Thank you bro! You got right to the point, shit wasn’t annoying, I got all my files synced up! I fuck wit you 🤝. Folks got shit to do if you really trinna help just put niggas on game, and then tell folks hit the like button and subscribe 💯💯💯🤝!

What about when I import an OMF and the files are missing and PT forces me to relink one by one?
Hey have to let you know this was a huge help, thanks a ton, saved a massive project :)
Glad it helped!
Most helpful Chris! Thanks for this!!

You just saved my postgrade final project
thanks dude! love the channel, keep up the good work!
Appreciate it!
great video.....I couldn't figure out how to do this...it's kind of confusing until you've done it. thanks for this!
Thank you Chris!
Thank you for this video! Very clear and sorted out my issue :)
Very good instructions. Cool and clear delivery. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I follow the steps, but when I get find links, it says “some files to relink not found” I can’t seem to troubleshoot this
Also, it says check search result
This man is worth his weight in gold.
One very important tip that meant everything; selecting the parent folder;

Glad I could help!
Thanks man, It worked with an OMF
Super handy video, good stuff! Much appreciated 👌
Many thanks for this! Helped me sort out some major problems. :)
didn't work for me unfortunately - so I have to manually click on each file and find candidates
Super straight forward 🙂 you saved me from pulling MORE hairs haha

What do you mean by corrupted? Do you get a specific error message?
is there a way to reopen the relink window after you closed it?
That's a really good question and I am going to give a quick answer but I will look for something better. You can simply close the session and open again and that window will come back. Otherwise I am still looking for that answer myself!
thanks for the video man

Ha sweeet, glad you got it back.
Didnt work for me at all. This is why I prefer Ableton. One click and done in ableton.
My relink dialog box did not show the Links. It also never gave me the option to Commit Links.
Hmm, maybe quit and try again? If the box does not pop up, that might be a glitch. Otherwise try to right click the missing clip and see if you can access some version of "relink offline".
lifesaver, thank you
Is there a way to relink clips while the session is ongoing?
Yes, might be hard to explain over comments but there is a little red error box under that main transport / timecode window that you can click and it will pop open the relink window again.
@@ChrisMoroccoSound Well, thank you my friend for your fast support :) greets from germany
