There was a scam recently in my area where people pretend to be in line at the ATM and wait for someone to use the ATM by tapping their card. When you tap your card your account stays open after your transaction unless you hit the logout button and most people don't know that so they walk away after their transaction and the person in line comes up and withdrawals cash from their accounts. The bank (Chase) refused to reimburse the victims even after the people who did it were arrested. it took 8 months and Chase only reimbursed them after the local news covered it. Scamming isn't exactly a victimless crime.
That is a cardinal sin right there. Whenever you’re at an ATM, you never walk away until the screen says “Thank you for using so-and-so ATM,” you have your card in your wallet, and the screen goes back to what it was when you arrived there.

Fraud isn’t the wisest way to commit a crime. “Free money” is someone else’s money. Taking it from someone’s accounts, a person, could take months or more than a year to get back.
A bank like Bank of America, I entirely expect them to push the costs on their clients if federal insurance won’t cover the losses.

Because they need evidence. Even if someone says that they did it, you can't get them unless they do it on camera or provide evidence on themselves that they legitimately do crime. Now this doesn't mean that they're not scooping them out(which they 100% are). If he is legit, then he is screwed. If not, then nothing gonna happen. Plus that kind of knowledge is common place in the scamming world so he is more than likely trying to get attention

The scam I’m getting tired of is those Facebook ones where they say you “won” some money but first you have to send them some money to get your winnings/payments. They hound you worse than regular telemarketers that are based in India.
Yeah I'm actually very familiar with the one scam. That he described where he has someone working at a McDonald's or something. This happened to my mom she had to lock your account and it took a couple days or week or so for the bank to even give her the money back.

I wouldn’t doubt that his parents are rich and that’s where he originally got his money. There’s no way he’s doing this sh!t for real (unless he’s working undercover to catch scammers/would-be scammers).
Fraud is on a crazy rise right now. Worst part is, the punishments are not usually very bad unless it’s an absurd amount. Make sure you got consumer alerts on ya credit with at least 3 major credit reporting agencies.
Just put a freeze on your credit reporting accounts AND get a consumer alert service.
I had to do this after Equifax was compromised and left my credit line with them exposed.

I have been scammed and you never get all of your money back. Only 20% if you are lucky. The banks will tell you that you should have been more careful
