    Great video as always. My brother and I watch all your videos we are both licensed Residential Light Commercial contractors here in Georgia. We have a construction company together DJR Construction Group. It is very inspirational to see a young GC similar to ourselves carving his own way in this industry. Your growth over the years and just seeing a glimpse of some of the ups and down and perseverance has motivated us tremendously. I too will be leaving a comment every time you make a video if it helps out.

    My friend’s dad is a GC in California doing commercial project, and he’s making around 500k-1mil annually profit before tax. He said there’s still a very high demand. He’s always booked projects after projects.

    What are the names of the books I'm going to need for the Florida GC test? Please. I'm looking into buying them soon and begin studying.

    • @maxholt2869
      @maxholt2869 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Sterling Archer you’re gonna need all the code books, like 5 of those (building, residential, existing, accessibility, and energy conservation) then Florida contractors manual, builders guide to accounting, osha handbook, AIA documents, placing reinforcing bars, gypsum materials, Walkers guide to accounting, design and control of concrete mixtures, commercial construction, and a university of Florida energy book. There are 3 different tests, project management, contract administration, and business and finance. You only use 3 books on the B&F

    Dude, this is funny, but in an informative way. You're a great communicator. I started a handyman business about 9 months ago now (wow, 9 months!?) and I. have. learned. A. LOT. I started after being let go from a job as a junior automotive tech after realizing I didn't want to continue nursing school after being tired of being a bartender. I still have terrible credit from being a wild 20-something so I've paid for everything in cash, job-to-job. I have had to learn more than I ever imagined and I've almost quit 100 times or so, but I have awesome repeat customers and I actually enjoy the f'g work. I'm finally starting to make a little money. Like, enough to put lights in my broken ass utility trailer I purchased for $900! This piece of %^&$! Does what it's supposed to, though, even if it is falling the F apart. Anyway. I digress. I look forward to seeing more content. I'm still in school (now on an engineering track), but I wonder if I should partner up with my buddy (an excellent young carpenter) and just ride this pony all the way to the f'in big bank!? Wow. I didn't expect to say all that.

    Good stuff brother! I have a question though. Hopefully you see this. I’m buying a piece of land now on the water. I’m in Tampa but the land is in Sarasota. The ARV for a 3k square foot home is 1.8 million there. I want to sell the land to a GC/builder. I’ve assumed a price of 150 per square to build since it’s on the water, and higher end. The profit margin I’ve calculated for the builder is 400k. In your opinion, do you think that is a satisfactory profit margin? Thanks man. Keep putting out good content

    I agree its subjective however small company only at 20-30?
    I perform service work commercially and renovation work and Im easily over 40% But I make 60-75 % more in service work. Like 135-185 per hour rates at 20-40 dollar payouts.

    Any suggestions for getting my foot in the door? I have a 9-5 job on weekdays but I would like to do this on weekends to learn and maybe eventually do it myself full time. I do not know if there are companies that would be ok with hiring me just on weekends and maybe weeknights.

      There is no minimum, unless you consider going negative or bankruptcy a minimum… there also isn’t a maximum. You get out what you put into it… that’s the bottom line. It’s your business, you gotta build it.
