Remember that deleted scene where Jin was fishing with the ARMY bomb? That was from a semi-reality TV show he was doing where celebrities had to survive in the jungle. He said it was the first time he realized how popular BTS had become. For the show he had to take 2 diff flights and then a couple of boats to get to the remote site in the middle of nowhere SE Asia. Not only was he mobbed at takeoff and return (in S Korea), the entire crew of celebrities was shocked when ARMY started showing up to the location the second day of shooting.

The cauterized 15-year-old personalities comment resonated for me having evolved some not always popular opinions on the Idol platform developed by SM Entertainment. RM spoke in Wildflower of expecting a beautiful fall referring to how the Idol industry really was designed to promote youthful pristine imagery as opposed to artistry. This obviously was not something which could be maintained or that he wanted to maintain. In the platform, youngsters are cultivated from early age for commercial consumption. There is an expectation that if successful after a few years they would recede more or less out of the industry to normalcy. Others by design will replace them in more or less the same roles. I think if I recall the next episode addresses in part the pressures that occurred inside BTS when this fall from being youthful display pieces did not occur. Instead, they experienced a rise to global presence with expectations more typical of artists not operating as permanent play toy youngsters. They were forced to confront their future. These youthful "cauterized" personalities they basically contracted to live were designed for a different reality than being artists entailed. I think when the usefulness of the Idol Platform started being questioned, BTS with some emotional trepidation was able to evolve into the bad ass artists they have been able to become. We now love them more in my opinion because we have seen them grow from "cauterized" 15-year-olds to genuine men, but as you will see, the shift was an emotional event.
@Sherluck93 Yes, BTS started with two young rappers who signed on to be part of a hip-hop group but due to the financial condition of their small company they had their project altered into an Idol group with hip hop included. For all their hard material, BTS ultimately wound up designed like all Idol groups to appeal first and foremost to female audiences. And that's who attended to them. For years you could not find but a handful of males in their SK audiences. BTS practiced aegyo, weren't overtly perturbed by females shipping their members, went through rituals of intermember affectionate displays designed for the for the camera, and cross dressed (yes, your two rappers did it too). Frankly a significant portion of their dance performance was based on Idol standardized center-based dance choreographies meant not just to highlight the music but the visuals. I am not sure I would say dance is intrinsic to hip hop. As BTS went international, their Idol based visual style was an anomaly to many Westerners, invoking both praise and pretty boy commercially produced ridicule. They had to commit to being international artists which pointed to committing to a more mature kind of artistry. BTS did have to ask themselves whether they could invest in a new set of goals to grow further in that arena. They couldn't return to simply being perma-kids wherein virtually entirely female audiences would be living out their fantasies. Ultimately, they would go into a teaching mode, messaging with love yourself and Jungian psychology. It wasn't quite the beautiful fall K pop artists expect before they even debut but more a next chapter. That speaks to Frankie's cauterized youth concept, personas trapped in people's expectations that were developed early in careers. BTS largely has been able to shed that skin but it was a deliberate process because the Idol platform's cauterized youth tends to be definitional.
@@ericweinman9447 Your comment missed the mark for me again. And you clearly don't know much about Hip-Hop and have your 'cauterized' views about BTS.
Not sure who you think your audience for these essays are. You added nothing of value, and certainly not in a straightforward manner. Anyways, be well! 💜
PS: Yes, 'my' two rappers did 'it', 'too'! And we had FUN! And you're a spoilsport. Good luck.
