    Shamir is super humble. Takes criticism like man. He swallows his pride and listens carefully to the advice. Very rare to find a student like that. That’s why he keeps improving.

    • @beaglesrfun5896

      Definitely! But he's getting filet mignon advice, which is also rare to find in coaches!

    Nik: "that was the best serve of your life."
    Samir: "I don't know."
    Nik: "you hit better ones than that?"
    Shamir: " I don't know I hit so many" 😂💎💪

    8:53 incredible advice Nik. It has taken me probably 3 years to move up from 3.0 and I'm competing with 4.0 level guys. Hours and hours on the court (serve practice alone during lunch break!) and in the gym and doing extra cardio. Sometimes I cannot tell if really I am even improving. But finally this weekend my captain picked me for first doubles position in our upcoming match! Definitely your videos and other good TH-cam coaches along with my local club coaches have helped tremendously

    Listening to you put things in perspective with regard to "not feeling the progress" on a day to day basis REALLY hits home with me. I'm wired to be tempermental and OVERLY hard on myself. My mental game needs to be better. Meaning...patience, patience, patience.

  • @dennisthegreek5336
    @dennisthegreek5336 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I disagree with the last tip about not caring about the other player's game style or weaknesses. I recently won a match against a player 7-5, 7-6 coming back from 1-5 on the first set because I took advantage of certain weeknesses, but my level of play definitely dropped down technically! Especially at the recreational level and when you consider your opponent more consistent/experienced/technically superior, you NEED to play more with your mind, exploiting any weakness you can. Of course you need to focus on your flaws too as you correctly said, in order to avoid as many mistakes as possible.

    • @damansidhu77
      @damansidhu77 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was going to add the same thing. If you can analyze the opponents weakness and stay away from their strengths, it will give you an edge. You cannot be reactive and play without any game plan.

    • @PRiKoL1ST1
      @PRiKoL1ST1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess in the long term one should focus on his weaknesses, in the match you can exploit opponents weaknesses

  • @Didymus1984
    @Didymus1984 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The only thing that would’ve made this video better is if at 7:47 when Nick says, “Shamir, here’s a big question: can you kick it on the Deuce side?” Shamir turns to the camera and says, “Oh, I think I can kick it” then proceeds to launch into an all-out breakdance routine with 80s hip-hop music suddenly playing in the background. Nick is off to the side with his arms crossed, not excited but not disapproving either. Then Shamir leaps back up onto his feet, grabs his racquet, the music stops, and they resume as if none of that had ever happened.

  • @analogkid8
    @analogkid8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for sharing Coach. I noticed Shamir opens his fingers and then closes them around the racquet during the service motion. He probably is not conscious of doing that i.e. not on purpose. Do you think that it is helping him to keep a loose grip on the racquet?

    Love Shamir. Wish to see him more in the channel.
    But Nick's words are wise: when you have hole in your game, you worry about yourself. When no more technical flaws are left, then you start worrying about the other side of the net (high-level players).
