It's an impressive speaker. Although having heard it myself, I can only recommend buying it if you plan on playing it at ludicrously loud volumes. Buy it if you live in a detached house in the middle of nowhere, don't buy it if you have neighbours. You only get the best out of the speaker if you're playing it loud and have a large room to play it in. Bare in mind that to have this playing in stereo you need to buy two, plus the bridge, plus two stands to put them on - £5,227.00. For half this amount you could get a setup with ribbon tweeters and a nice subwoofer which sounds amazing at mid- to low volumes and doesn't mean you have to remortgage the house.
bobby randomguy thnx, we are filming weekly content and the plan is with regularity and best quality we can manage we'll grow the audience. Appreciate the support 🤓👊🏼
True.. A big mass video, too much talking and what is that song he played in the backgroung? I mean, if already take it outside your home and put it in a place like this - put some real music!!
With no actual live mic audio this doesn't actually get any real point across, it seemed to be more an excersize of cinematography than a real review. Also just for the sheer fact of size, this wouldn't be able to create enough air movement/SPL to be nearly comparable to the level of a concert of any variety in a venue of that size. Regardless of the amount of watts supplied, the sound output is limited by the amount of air the woofers can physically move, and the size of the box/port.
Exactly!!! I think he missed the point. Devialet don't claim that it can compete with a rock concert PA, in the same space. What they mean is that, when at normal speaker listening distances in the home, it is as loud as a rock concert from the audience perspective. Which honestly isn't terribly loud anyway as they keep them at a comfortable listening level that's just loud enough to be energetic these days
it's a bullshit video, but you're are also slightly wrong there, it is a bit about air movement but more about how the moving cones couple with the air that creates sound. you can have 18 inch speakers moving only a few millimeters compete with 24 inch cones that are moving a couple of inches
He could just make same video at home. What did they do at that big place? blows my mind he didnt even tried to capture loudness staying in one end of the place and maxing the bloody speaker out.
Lots of points well made - yeah, hindsight is a wonderful thing - I should certainly of included more of the venue audio, you are bang on and I regret that. At its heart the review was meant to do something different to other reviews on TH-cam, by people who, frankly, know a lot more about audio than I. It was about testing the claim on Devialet's website 'Phantom, 4,500W of power, 108 dB of physical impact, the sound level of a live rock concert.' That's the sentence that grabbed me and the source of the test. From your comments I guess I can see that there is room for interpretation, but checking back at their site tonight it's a straightforward claim that we tried to check out with a straightforward test. I'm listening though and your comments will inform how I approach reviews like this in the future.
For a claimed dB level to make sense, the distance between the ear/mic and the sound source must be stated. The level of a rock concert is up to 120 dB at an average distance from the stage, up to 138 dB in front of the stage and up to 139.5 dB near the speakers. For home speakers, the standard used is a measurement taken one meter from the front of the speaker. In the case of Devialet, no distance is mentioned, but it is likely that they used the standard one meter distance. At 108 dB, this is very far from the actual dB level of a real concert.
well i have a dual 18inch subwoofer that 6400watt that does that aka 138db and it's in my very Small house R.I.P Neighbours and they're right next to me LMAO
4500 watts is most likely peak power (i would guess a few hunded watts RMS until someone proves me wrong), and concert levels are closer to 115 dB. Still very impressive for such small speaker, but for that price i expect RMS power in the specs, and less lies like "zero distorsion" =/
They're not lies. They literally achieve zero distortion. They're hybridising Class A and Class D amplifiers, and using some very advance methods of output, like the pressurised woofers which can put out over 100KG of forcefulness.
That is load of bull. If you knew physics, and knew what modulation does with all woofers, what thermal compression and other stuff does, you would know there is nothing capable of delivering anything remotely close to zero distortion. Pressurized woofer means nothing really. 100kg also nothing. There is nothing with which this speaker could push against air with this amount of force. So if that force is applied, it must be absorbed by the rest of the speaker. And that makes no sense.
Have loved the Phantom for a while now... and I'm an audio engineer!!! To answer many people's questions... the Phantom is a hermetically sealed HIGHLY PRESSURISED unit - hence how it can shift so much air and with such force. The 4.5K of amplification in such a small unit is done by a very clever combination of both Class A and Class D circuitry. The guys at Devialet have achieved an amazing feat of engineering. And Jason... good to have you back... the main main!!!
if you claim to be an audio engineer you are a moron... That's why they have line arrays to overcome the LOSS of SPL when a room is full of people... that shit box may make a lot of noise in an empty concrete room, but fill it with a thousand sweaty people and it will be just ... crushed ...
This speaker is awesome, but I'm pretty sure meaning behind the claims of it being as loud as a rock concert is being completely misinterpreted here. It doesn't mean it can fill a stadium, it means when listening to it from a normal range it will sound close to as loud as a concert will sound when you are at the concert. But it's impressive that it is that loud in a large area.
One of these :) I have a Reactor and yes two of them would be cool for stereo but the imaging of the Phantom is so good anyway, I'd go for one Phantom 👍
@@victorlester4374 Aweeeee! Don't they already have that one out? Lol but for real tho I probably won't even buy the speakers anymore since I've shifted my priorities after college. HAHA
@@jimlawrence9084 phantom reactor 900 its more practical hahaha. Yes 3000$ for a speaker is impractical 😂 u could buy 1 gaming laptop 1 iphone 11 pro max and have exrta money left😂
I was a bit sceptical about the phantom gold when it came to the claims. And i still am to this day after hearing a pair of them. But i have not heard one speaker that plays bass with such accuracy and force with the size in mind.
Yes, I did put two Devialet Phantom Gold's on my shelfs and called it a day. Yes, my expectations where high. Yes, I had a similar reaction unboxing them. Yes, my mind was blown (what's going on here?!) the first time I cranked up the volume (including the silly shock & aw faces). Yes, it doesn't make any sense to me getting this volume and high fidelity from such small sized speakers. Yes, I needed them in my life. Yes, I think they are beautiful and just love to stare at them (I have them on the optional Devialet Treepods, which enhances their striking looks even more). Yes, I don't regret purchasing them although they set me back five times my monthly rent. Yes, I can't wait to move to a bigger house without neighbours, because they're mad and my current living room is not Rock Concert size. The Gold Phantom is designed as a wireless speaker, of course, and has both Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. But there is also a digital optical socket for legacy equipment, and an ethernet connection for those who value signal stability over decorative minimalism. Setting the whole thing up wasn't effortless and didn't go too smoothly. First time the bluetooth connection was poor. Using the needed Spark app to control my Phantom set-up with two Gold's and the Dialogue box needed some trial and error to get used to. I resetted the Dialogue and Phantoms and after my second try it all worked perfectly fine. Working with the Spark app has its ups and downs, but in general I'm quite content with it. Although some crucial UX problems should definitely be fixed in the future. I use Tidal and Qobuz to stream lossless mp3's (FLAC), it really doesn't make any sense to listen to normal mp3's on let's say Spotify. Music sounds best on the Phantom Gold's when listening to vinyl, or CD's. Obviously. The pair of them delivered surprising clarity and coherence across the audioband, astoundingly deep and controlled bass, reference-class sound staging and imaging, and extremely high output. This makes a pair of Gold Phantoms with the Dialog a compelling option not only for those who want something that sounds great and is small and rich in features, but also for the audiophile who cares only about sound quality. And when I say “sounds great,” I don’t mean “for the money” or “for a small speaker” -- the Gold Phantom sounds great, period. I only turned them up to 100 (max volume) for a minute and my ears where buzzing right after that. The Phantom Gold is capable of peak volume levels comparable to those of a modest aircraft. Which, in my domestic situation, ought to be ample. They shouldn't allow people to buy speakers for their living room that go this loud! Are they insane? It's not healthy. Nor responsible. I never ever had them louder than 60 ever since. Usually between volume level 30 and 40 is most pleasing to the ears. It does kind of feel like driving a Lamborghini at 100 Km per hour while it could go 300Km per hour easily. Hooked up my Smart TV with the Dialogue box with an optical cable. Watching movies with the sound coming from two Phantom Gold's beats any Soundbar on the market. Are you kidding me? It's not Dolby Digital (ATMOS), but what's going on here? The incredible bass just vibrates the whole building and made things fall from my walls (there's a Night Mode setting in the Spark app, which makes the sonic earthquake more bearable). Finally I can hear dialogues clearly and the overall soundstage is impressively wide. I can imagine adding three more Gold's would get you IMAX sound in your living room, but I'll take the sound I get from 'just' two Phantom Gold's any day. Accompanying the brick-cracking bass is a hectic flurry of movement from the side-firing woofers, the sort of alarmingly visual driver extension that in any other circumstances would have us leaping forwards to reduce the volume and prevent possibly terminal damage. It’s a bit of visual theatre you simply don’t get with any other product. Pro's: - Tremendously fulsome sound. - Small size, very practical on many levels (26cm tall and 25cm wide, 11.4 kg). - Future proof because of Devialet’s Analogue Digital Hybrid (ADH) technology. Very nice review! That´s exactly what I would expect from reviewers. You did their job best, and you deserve to eat their bread. Naaa, I´m not sure about the "aircraft" sound pressure levels, but that wasn´t that much amount of hyperbole in the text. When I turn on my PA, things break! Ceiling, done... Window, done. Things that can fall - done... :-)
The Phantom truly is powerful but only in an empty room or small room. Try the same test with that venue filled with an audience and hear all the volume dissipate .
Good for mono recordings. A review with a stereo pair for everything else would have been great. Cant belive someone is willing to buy just one of these for backgroundmusic...
How far away was the db's measured? The small print is so important.I can tell you my 100 watt per channel Arcam amp would blow it out of the water its all about speaker efficency and power supply. If it was a true 4.500 watts it would weigh over 100lbs.
4500 Watts Devialet Phantom Gold, 4500 Watts 4500 Watts 4500 Watts jajajajaja do you know the size of a 4500 Watts class D amp ? and what about the speakers??
Jason Bradbury, cheers pal! I found it right after I asked the question anyway. Should've looked better:))) Nice clip, and the tune....oh my God! Love it!
There is no doubt whatsoever that this speaker is fantastic. And it can be stereo paired! It's a pity they're probably out of the financial reach of most people. Damn I'll have to settle with my UE megaboom! Lol Great video.
You need to hear two phantom golds in stereo configuration to really appreciate what devialet have achieved with these. I have two in my living room and couldn't be happier with them. epic sounds!! cool review mate!
I get why people have been asking for this tune, what i would like to know is what else would you suggest. finding this tune probably means you have found others, what are they?
Awsome !!!! I want this, I love the sound, was at Soundgarden to hear it for myself and that's the best I've ever heard ... my stereo can not be compared to the amazing speaker
+adyhacKer86 hi dude, I cam do better, Im going shoot a new test, designed around suggestions exactly like yours. Im sensing - native audio from the venue is your preference?
Hmmm, space is worth testing inside (house, it's my preference) but also outside (hall or where you have the pleasure) As songs, it is worth putting some different genres: rock, house, dance, hip-hop, classical, opera :) When you register to have normal distances through the house. Example in the Devialet phantom living room you will be in the corner of the room ... take a 30-second test (1m) and then slowly walk away to the other corner of the room. Or find an optimal position where you listen to music and relax on the armchair by recording a piece at different volumes: 50% .... up to 80% .... and if you allow the song you will get even more, then show what Phantom Gold can do . Thank you
At what distance does this thing have 108db? The dB unit is measured at certain distances, and the correct is to say dB/m . At 50cm it may have 108dB and at 2meters it may have just 40dB. So the "108dB" is irelevant IF the distance is not mentioned. Same as speed of a car, you need to say miles/hour not just miles. You can't measure speed jut in miles.
40dB? that's extremely quiet, 40dB is as loud as a library . Your phone probably produces 60 ish dB from 2 meter distance. It also depends if it's in room or outside. In room it'll get a lot louder.
108dB's isn't a lot for a modern speaker particularly in that price range! It's approaching 30dB's below an impressive figure. That's a factor of one thousandth!!!

It's a beautiful piece of engineering. I WANT ONE
What's your shades 😎 brand plz
jason the gadget show is a complete flop without your patter mate!
pegzisdead 👊
Aint that the truth!!
The Phantom truly is powerful but only in an empty room or small room. Try the same test with that venue filled with an audience and hear all the volume dissipate .
If i buy this beast, My neighbors would move to the moon
Bunch of friends just chilling 😂
What is the name of the music that is being played in the background ...it's so nice
+Mike Surong Hi Mike. Its mentioned in the first comment 👍
Good evening! I would like to have the title of the music, please.
Very high quality production.
GFmanaic thanks
Nice speaker what about your glasses they look good what is the brand thanks
morris malosno the glasses are by Tom Davies 👊
What drone did your friend use for this?
Again. It's awesomeness packed! Absolutely worth the money for it's size!
Please, name of the song playing on the background till 1:06
Amazing Song!!
Good for mono recordings. A review with a stereo pair for everything else would have been great. Cant belive someone is willing to buy just one of these for backgroundmusic...
I like your glasses where did get them!!
How far away was the db's measured? The small print is so important.I can tell you my 100 watt per channel Arcam amp would blow it out of the water its all about speaker efficency and power supply. If it was a true 4.500 watts it would weigh over 100lbs.
Hii jason
Could you please share the exact music of this video please the name of the song
hey whats the name of the music? PLS...
Good to see what the old gadget show was is now back
im sorry to ask again and i know the music is from epidemic sound but whats the name of this song?
On your way - Cospe
Does the Speaker have a 3mm jack line in to connect external devices?,
The Gadget Guy No. but it does have optical (I connect Sky through that) & Bluetooth
Jason Bradbury I think it's a real disappointment, but thanks for your reply!, 😀
The Gadget Guy no worries dude
4500 Watts Devialet Phantom Gold, 4500 Watts 4500 Watts 4500 Watts jajajajaja do you know the size of a 4500 Watts class D amp ? and what about the speakers??
What is the song? Anyone please? I tried to Shazam it no luck:(((
Alex Alipiev hi dude. The song is listed in the main pinned comment here in the comments section. 👊👊👊
Jason Bradbury, cheers pal! I found it right after I asked the question anyway. Should've looked better:))) Nice clip, and the tune....oh my God! Love it!
Hello Jason. Your glasses. What brand are they please?
i dont understand.. at which part of the video is the actual recording of it being played...
Who is the artist and name of song that's being played?
There is no doubt whatsoever that this speaker is fantastic. And it can be stereo paired! It's a pity they're probably out of the financial reach of most people. Damn I'll have to settle with my UE megaboom! Lol
Great video.
Yeah, stereo pair would be cool but out of my reach :)
Try the ue hyperboom.
Hi Jason, have you heard of the speaker BBX1 ? Have a look thanks.
You need to hear two phantom golds in stereo configuration to really appreciate what devialet have achieved with these. I have two in my living room and couldn't be happier with them. epic sounds!! cool review mate!
John Wheeler wow!!!! Jealous!
holy shit you're rich
dats nutten..i have four in my front room..and 2 in my bathroom
I just bought 2 myself with the stand, it's actually insane how well the speakers fill up the room.
seeker jay 😂😂😂👍🏼

Sunny Sunny I've pinned my answer for ya.

which song are u playing on this masterpiece??
Yeah what song?
I get why people have been asking for this tune, what i would like to know is what else would you suggest. finding this tune probably means you have found others, what are they?
Can you measure the devialet gold phantom to prove its 108db ?
Awsome !!!! I want this, I love the sound, was at Soundgarden to hear it for myself and that's the best I've ever heard ... my stereo can not be compared to the amazing speaker
totally unexpected production quality..mindblown! ..subscribed!
Awesome video , the first real video I have seen that does justice to the Phantom Gold, well done!
Ian McDermott 👊 thanks dude
Dude those glasses your wearing are awesome
Thnx fella
What brand are they
hello, thanks for this video
but I would like to ask you something: can you give us video from that hall? ... more minutes
thank you
+adyhacKer86 hi dude, I cam do better, Im going shoot a new test, designed around suggestions exactly like yours. Im sensing - native audio from the venue is your preference?
Hmmm, space is worth testing inside (house, it's my preference) but also outside (hall or where you have the pleasure)
As songs, it is worth putting some different genres: rock, house, dance, hip-hop, classical, opera :)
When you register to have normal distances through the house. Example in the Devialet phantom living room you will be in the corner of the room ... take a 30-second test (1m) and then slowly walk away to the other corner of the room.
Or find an optimal position where you listen to music and relax on the armchair by recording a piece at different volumes: 50% .... up to 80% .... and if you allow the song
you will get even more, then show what Phantom Gold can do
.
Thank you
At what distance does this thing have 108db? The dB unit is measured
at certain distances, and the correct is to say dB/m .
In room it'll get a lot louder.
on its website says 108db SPL at 1 meter
your the dude from gadget show. I liked that show, you are a crazy dude.
Where to buy these glasses?
Google Tom Davies 👍
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I want one so bad.
rs san Hate to say it but it's worth it :)

Demario Tennant Thank. I mentioned it in the comments below👍

Julien Delmarle cospe on your way. That the name of the song
Amazing review! Thanks
Whats the title of the song??
Is this portable?
Super great reviews , love your content and delivery .
Having a hard time distinguishing which parts of the sound are in real and which part is the playback from the recording...
108dB's isn't a lot for a modern speaker particularly in that price range!
It's approaching 30dB's below an impressive figure.
That's a factor of one thousandth!!!
what's the name of the song ?
2:31. Oh look everyone, it’s the party bus guy from those Castle N’ Coasters commercials.
the name of the song at minute 2:38 ?
What rock concert are you comparing it too?
please tell the name of the track on 2.13
Great video and well put together. The gadget show and television in general is done for. This is the future. Keep it going Jas.
