Bring in Dutch Engineering to show how flood defences should be done. They did an amazing job in their own country.

And the people who live in these villages who have accumulated some sort of money in their lifetime supposed to be sensible enough not to buy a house in a dip so when flooding does occur it is not going to affect them shouldn't they have bought a house on a hill it's common sense to me like and them with money I supposed to be the sensible ones and us who live in council flats are supposed to be the thick ones

Jack and the pals Very ignorant comment from someone who doesn’t understand. Some of these people are hard working locals struggling to survive on the areas wages that are very low and housing cost which are very high. Many people have to rent. One farmer lost flocks of sheep, tractors, his home and business in the space of minutes.

The more people you cram onto this island the more homes you will have to build, that means the more land is covered in concrete, which results in less land to absorb water less trees as well.
Natural countryside can absorb about 70% more water than farmlands and 100% more water in concrete and tarmac, so the answer to a problem is reducing population, bringing it down to an acceptable level that the island we live on can naturally support.
Also getting rid of this ridiculous incompatible system of economic growth that is totally out of touch with the environment it is being operated in, because it is destroying get because it needs to endlessly grow and the space it is trying to endlessly grow into is not endless, so there can only be one result.
We claim to be an intelligent species then why don't we have the intelligence to understand where we live and how to live their without destroying our environment?
We have to stop putting making money more important than our existence because that's what we're doing at the moment.
