Two chicken pickin' monster guitar players, 4 lead vocals who sing harmony like angels, perfectly timed set and flow of great songs. And they write classics. They even dress like a band should.
I have worked with these guys many times over my life. Started in leave entertainment in 76. 18 years old. Worked in country music for about 25 years as an audio monitor engineer on a live radio broadcast from a theatre. Also stage managed a huge country music festival that was born out of that same theatre. Marty was around since Marty was Marty picking on his own. These guys ARE the salt of the earth. Extremely polite and nice people. Of course wonderful musicians!!
Seeing (spangled, sharp looking cats)and hearing this band is one of the best musical experience you can hope to have. Marty has a 5-star country pedigree, and the band is spot-on. You hear classic country, bluegrass, and echoes of rockabilly, surf guitar, and psychedelia ala’ the Byrds all perfectly at home in their music. I’ve seen them in Duluth with the Steve Miller Band, and rocking the main stage at Merlefest, N.C. Thanks for posting this!
Let me guess...The 9 thumbs down from bluegrass purists... What did Uncle Bill Monroe say? He said to take his bluegrass style and make it your own for it to evolve! This us why Marty is up here and you 9 on the couch.
You’re not gonna find anyone better than these two guitar pickers. I love their sound, style and vocals. Simple four piece band that makes just so much appealing music. Takes me from the sixties to the present. Great job Marty.
I caught this show in Eureka Springs AR. on Oct 9. THEY BLEW THE DOORS OFF THE PLACE. UNBELIEVABLE. If you get any chance to catch this tour, do yourself a huge favor. If I'm not mistaken, Johnny Cash wrote those lyrics to Bonanza. Marty learned so much from John Cash. Only his second "job" ever, and his last. Played in his band, married one of his daughters, lived next door to him and hung out with him. Plus he lived with Lester Flatt as a teenager when he was playing in his band. Hard to beat that experience.
Thursday...November 14th, 2024...I got to see these guys live right here in Nashua, NH...total jaw'dropping dynamite band...some highlights: Kenny Vaughn nailing El Paso guitarwork...Chris Scruggs blasting the upright bass playing, of all things, "Wipeout"....Yes, "Wipeout"!!!!...Harry stepping out from his drums to handle 12string guitar work a la Roger Mcguinn...and showing his absolute virtuosity on mandolin, the one and only. Marty Stuart , soeedballing the "Orange Blossom Special"...go see this band if the opportunity presents itself
Just saw them in Liberty, NC. The band is like a walking music history museum. I mean that in the best way possible. It’s like you’re watching a show in the 1950’s, but it’s better than most acts out there. Whenever a Kenny was singing his songs of the set, I thought to myself “Wow, imagine having Marty Stuart as your lead guitar player”.
Chris adds an extra layer of country music history. He's possibly the next guitar player in the band, and that's saying something. He'a a multi instrumentalist, playing steel, mandolin, likely fiddle, definitely guitar, bass and absolutely KNOWS the old styles and licks. He's a historian as well, studying players and sessions and instruments. Plus being the son of a first class guitar player and singer and grandson of Earl Scruggs brings a level that few can reach. He and Kenny play together often outside of the FS. They really cut loose there.
You don’t often see a Rickenbacher in country music. Kenny Vaughan, the Master of the Telecaster, does a great job of incorporating British Invasion tones into Marty’s truck driver song. It’s an odd combo, but it works.
It’s no so much British Invasion but the American response to it. The first American band to really hit and last was the Byrds with that distinctive jingle jangle Rickenbacker twelve string sound played by Roger McGuinn. The guitar Marty plays belonged to Clarence White, the great Byrd’s guitarist. There’s a lot of Byrds via Tom Petty running through Marty’s music. Of course it’s a somewhat inspired by the British Invasion. But essentially everything that came after was.
Yes, and Marty of course is great friends with Chris Hillman of the Byrds, and did a completely spectacular revisit of "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" with a tour on the 50th anniversary of that album with Chris and Roger McGuinn. Kenny Vaughn gets it and nails every note. Superlatives indeed. Best band in country and as good as anyone in the world. If Tom Petty had gone country, he'd have been Marty Stuart.
Kenny's Rickenbacher 12 string electric guitar sounds went from George Harrison to Roger McGuin (Or reversed by some) & it's those references Kenny's building on, but he only briefly refers to them, he never flat out copies those two & that makes him great...
Thank you Videomark.. Long time Strawberry denizen who has been unable to go for several years and I really miss all the good times with fellow Strawberry family I can’ t thank you enough for posting the great Marty Stewart Band. If you have any others please post. I went there both times every year for many many years. Thanks
i was a little kid watching TV with my parents when Bobby was killed. I was born in 58 and was only 10 years old and when the speach went off and Momma told us to go to bed the bulletin cam eon and instantly showed footage and he was dying, they were trying to get him out. That is burned in my brain and I'll never forget it. Sad

Drummer is friggin flawless too! What a band

There ain't (yes ain't) a musician like Marty Stuart, a gorgeous man, a gorgeous voice and a guitarist gorgeous to BOOT - what a fabulous showman

They just floor me. Talent head to toe, all of them. I have played "Way Out West" 20 times a day since I bought it. A masterpiece.
Blew the roof off recently in Iowa City. We drove 5 hours each way to find a show that wasn’t sold out. Clean Fender guitars!
What a superb band. The standard of musicianship is off the scale. Thank you Marty Stuart and more than fabulous superlatives.
What a treat. This is how its done, start to finish and all points in between.

Awesome what a great band and that b bender fender is just the business eh! That guitar could tell a few stories 👌👍👏👏👏👏👏🏴🥃
It was Clarence White's guitar. I once heard Marty mention in an interview that he bought it in the 80's. Marty is a big Byrds fan.
Kenny and Marty both rip the B benders
Saw this show in Abilene last month. You won’t see a better live band in the country! Just an awesome performance.
These guys are the very best.
Yes, the very best in the country music business.
Fantastic stuff, straight down the line, even change their own guitars, it really doesn’t get much better, and I’m from UK!
I wish Marty would make a Marty Comes Alive album like a Frampton Album. His live performances are incredible.

I'm getting serious chills hearing "Six White Horses." I looked it up; it's an old Tommy Cash tune.
