16 years is a whole ass lifetime. We found our good old Chico had a kidney disease but it was too late to do anything about it, and he crossed the rainbow bridge some 3 years ago (4?) at the grumpy age of 13. My parents were pained to the point they refused to talk about or even look at cats for the first year, and they refuse to adopt another because they don't want to feel such pain of loss again. Still brings a tear to my eye thinking about that bloody bastard and how much I loved him. I still do. Fuck, just writing about it has opened the waterworks. It's not easy dealing with this kind of thing, it fucking sucks. Best we can do is try to minimize their pain, and try to make them happy, to the best of our ability. My heart goes out to you.

My cat was recently diagnosed with kidney disease as well. He’s about 18 years old and I’ve had him for 15 of those years. He lost a lot of weight and now he just seems so tiny. Since it’s the early stage he’s still running around and being hyper and able to do his normal cat shit but I know I’m going to lose him to this disease and it breaks my heart that there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. It’s so hard to lose your best friend and now I’m all teary eyed too just thinking about it.

@@jasminearch8632 Thank you and I promise that would never happen in my house.😁 My mom was honestly an amazing story teller and an extremely vivacious reader. Something that my daughter luckily has inherited. However, I myself, didn't find the joy in reading until, oddly enough, I was 13. Much like you, I was even older when I started writing. Unfortunately, as much as I liked trying, I did not inherite my mother's talent for writing. I did however realize that I am good at helping others form there plot bunnies into more solid material. 😁 And honestly I love watching her mind work and hearing the stories that she comes up with afterwards. So on pins and needles from the very opening intro music and spooky wonderfulness of this episode. The Carmine Gown is such fun. I've often gazed at my quilting cottons and thought why not... Some of the reproduction prints come in extra wide widths over 45" (108" plus) which when mathed out is often even less expensive than the 45" wide goods. I've entertained the thought of super quick period adequate skirts with the wide widths (also called wide backs as the quilters use this fabric for backs of quilts). Can you imagine how many seams can be combined with an extra wide yardage.... Thanks for another awesome costuming adventure.

And good call on the duvatine as an alternative to velvet, and on the styling of the hourglass accents front and back. The pumpkin debate made me think of my grandmother and her friend who went around to a local garage and a few other places one year to ask what they planned to do with their decorative pumpkins when the season was over. The unanimous answer was throw them out. They offered to take them instead. Most were still perfectly fine for eating. Ended up cutting them up and cooking them down, giving a lot away to others, and still having enough for year round soup and baking needs. They ended up with so many they felt overwhelmed so only asked the garage the next year. Anyone out there who cooks or bakes it's certainly something to keep in mind cause it was a lot of free pumpkin. Some places ditch theirs after Halloween so it provides for your thanksgiving needs. And if you aren't but have pumpkins to get rid of consider posting online as free, putting at the curb as free, or seeing if your local food banks are interested. People tend to forget they are food we decorate with but so long as they are still intact they can still be eaten.
On a less pumpkin focused note. Me, before this video. "Life's really sucked. I want something to entertain me... but rather than binging another comfort show I should probably watch something that actually inspires me to create. I think I'll go check out what Ive been missing on TH-cam." Goes to TheClosetHistorian channel and sees the thumbnail for this video. "Oh wow! Its so beautiful."
I then proceeded to watch, engrossed, and indeed got inspire to do some stuff. Thank you very much for that.

Most have settings that let you do both ruffle an pleat by simply sewing. The attachment does come as slant shank or straight, your machine is straight. Easily found as many made. Other brands as well work with Singer machines like Grieger. Enjoy watching you create and change patterns. 👍

Delighted by this! Very 'Back to the Future' part III meets Little House aka my favourite aesthetic. I think as costumers we can too easily fall into the trap of being accurate to the time instead of focusing on our enjoyment of what we're making.
I've always used the adage that if they had access to the fabrics we do now then they would use them. We are making these pieces today so it doesn't need to be "historically accurate". Poplins and lawns were extremely popular during the 1880s for day dresses and "Sunday best" but haven't survived en masse due to being upcycled into newer styles and children's clothes and aprons, etc. Besides, we use modern machines and techniques and other sundry materials so it's all much of a muchness really.

I'm really sorry about Cleo. I lost my best buddy of 13 years in may and it's still the worst but life wouldn't be nearly as good without our furry feathered or scaled friends I think.
I adored the cicada gown and I love this print, its going to be so fun!

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. 🙏😔 I lost my brave boy 🐕 Apollo last year at the age of ten. I think of him daily and miss him so much more 😢. I loved the intro to this video! Great work!

This is a very pretty project. I have to say your “cicada” gown was a triumph, so I’m looking forward to this. Beautiful intro too…..very atmospheric, and very typically “Bianca”. I’m deeply impressed with your pleating work too….me and regular measurements are not always besties lol. Insofar as the “historical adequacy” v “historical accuracy” goes…..I gotta say there’s room for both. There are costumers like Bernadette Banner, who endeavour to work in a historical manner using historically accurate materials, and that’s cool and I watch her because of that….but, I don’t always want that. Sometimes I want to see someone do something that’s personal and learn from it and that’s why I watch you Bianca. I’m not expecting historical accuracy….I AM expecting beautiful work, and personality and something new to learn. Also I’m sorry about your friend. I say friend, not cat, because any cat(and honestly, any pet) owner knows, cats are best friends and it hurts a lot when theyre sick or have to leave us. I’ve had pets all my life and every time it’s hard, and it will be even harder when my present babies(one of whom is on my lap right now, snoring his little butt off) go because I’ve decided I can’t get more. Because of my age, and uncertainty of housing I don’t want to leave pets behind me. I’ve managed to keep my little family together thus far but it will only get harder as I get older(I’m 57), and the thought breaks my heart, but it would be worse to leave pets to be either dumped or euthed so, needs must.

Thank you ❤ These furry friends of mine are about to teach me a lesson about loss for sure, as I've never had to say goodbye to a companion kitty like this before. I hope you have several happy years of friendship left with your current buddies!

Wow! That colour is fantastic on you! I love the fabric, it's very period. I've no doubt that you being you will embellish the bejesus outta that sucker. Sorry about Cleo, I know how much she means to you. Sending love

I love the beautiful fabric, but as one who wore cotton (a lot) in the 50s & 60s, I don't envy you having to iron it when it's laundered. Thanks Bianca, for all you do, and for the expertise you share!

Already absolutely loved this bodice, especially the black sections and the pleating. Looking forward to the rest!

This is looking really good! I'm very excited to see the finished ensemble!
A way to avoid using commercial patterns for historical projects (at least late VIctorian/Edwardian) would be drafting your own sloper using old manuals from that time that you can find for free on the interwebs. The instructions aren't always the best, but the end result is worth all the puzzling over non-sensical sentences and missing steps. :p

I adore the idea of pleating then cutting out the piece! I have done the other way of figuring out the piece cutting out and then pleating. From experience I will say that it was a pain in the ----. You can fill in the blank!
