Used to be perfectionistic about it, but I ended up never finishing games, (to the point where *finishing* games became a point on my yearly list, and something I wrote down and celebrated). Now, I just, play as me, not as "perfect", which makes it much more fun, and I don't get stuck agonising over choices.
My embarrassing spelling bee story is that I forgot to get my mom to sign my permission form so I forged her signature. I went to catholic school, so shame and guilt were factors of punishment so my teacher took the form, allowed me to 'participate' in the spelling bee, but then when it was my turn to spell my first word, she gave me the word 'forgery' and announced that I was disqualified for forgery.

Ebrietas Lore:
So Jacob got some of this slightly wrong. Ebrietas did not in fact come down from the sky but was actually discovered deep underground in the catacombs below Yharnam.
She was part of the older civilisations before Yharnam that communed with Great Ones and maybe succeeded and ascended or failed and were destroyed, it's unclear. She is referred to as "The Left Behind Great One" for this reason.
Ebrietas was discovered by the group that would later become The Choir, the senior cult at the head of the healing church and she guided them in their quest to ascend. All the NPC enemies who use that tentacle hand attack are summoning Ebrietas's tentacles to attack with!
Interestingly she is also a "Kin Great One" grouping her together with "Rom" and the "Celestial Emmissary" who were once human. This is in contrast to the "True Great Ones" like Amygdala or Mergo's Wet Nurse who were always alien.
An in-game clue as to which group the big alien creatures fall into is that "Kin" great ones seem to all bleed yellowy blood whereas the True Great Ones bleed dark red.
There's a fair amount of disagreement on what Ebrietas actually is and the different Bloodborne wikis disagree on whether she is a "True Great One" or not. She is mechanically "Kin", i.e. weapons that do bonus damage to Kin do bonus damage to her, but many people reject that she was ever human like the other Kin Great Ones you meet/ murder.
One fun way to reconcile her being both Kin and a True Great One at the same time is the idea that the term "Kin" itself refers to beings that are the Kin OF Ebrietas, i.e. those that have ascended because of her influence and are effectively her children. This means her crying at Rom's grave is extra sad as Rom is kind of like Ebrietas' daughter.
I was going to do a lore dump on this video like I did on the last few, but you spared me the work of explaining Ebrietas’s whole deal. How about we talk about the celestial emissary?
There are two things that the Church and its offshoots can’t get enough of: communication with higher beings and transformation into higher beings. The celestial emissary’s name and the location of its arena are illustrative: it was created to aid communication with Ebrietas. The fact that the emissary appears at first to be identical to the other blue blob-headed kin in the lumenflower garden tells us that they are also products of this process and not alien visitors.
The process that created the celestial emissary is explained a bit more in the DLC, so we’ll get to see what happened the first few times people tried this. They seem to have it down to a science now, albeit only some of the blobby boys are capable of sprouting head tentacles and shooting lasers at you. The woman who replaced Iosefka was apparently continuing the Choir’s research, as any survivors you send to the clinic will be transformed into celestial minions as well. This raises an interesting question: is she chosen to bear the child of a Great One (as evidenced by the umbilical cord she drops) because of her research, or was it a coincidence? Did her mutated test subjects help her communicate with another plane, or did they just wander about until we got there?
We also saw some celestial children in the upper cathedral ward. They resemble Arianna’s newborn, so it’s quite likely that they too are the product of the Great Ones impregnating humans. Grody.
Julia’s mortal enemies in this episode (which the wiki calls Brainsuckers but our hosts refer to as Schlorpers) are also kin. Their origins are not as clear, but the wormy protrusion that bursts from their heads might be some kind of insight-hungry parasite. There are actually a lot of snails and slugs in Bloodborne, especially in the DLC, supporting the game’s secondary theme of deep sea creatures.

@@Nonregional If I’m remembering this right, the implication with the Celestials fought in the Garden is that they’re the product of mass experimentation on orphans. Iosefka was complicit, leading her to open her public clinic in Yharnam as atonement before being suborned by the imposter. Bloodborne everybody!!

The fact Julia plays games in a very different way is exactly WHY I love watching her play. I’m always worried that if I don’t play a game “right” I’ll miss certain content and it brings me so much joy to watch Julia just vibe and exist in the world. I genuinely wish I could play the way she does.

She is only the 2nd boss in the game to reach double digits.

But also I love Ebrietas’ design. I am a neuroanatomy professor and I love how her design evokes a brain on top of a brain stem and spinal cord (example, her upper back region looks like the colliculus of the midbrain!). Obviously, Amygdala is a brain region, so it was cool to see another celestial with neural influences in her design. Very much fits with the “eyes on the inside” theme. Love the descent (ascent?) into madness that this game brings. Thanks for playing :)

@theomegajuice8660 I actually DID cry the first time I watched the Drawfee Bloodborne episode where Julia drew him, because I started thinking too hard about how incredibly unfair it is for a baby's soul to be trapped in a literal nightmare, an eternal purgatory to which it was damned by the greed of old men, and it fucked me up. Bloodborne is the saddest game ever made and I'm never going to be okay about the children in it.

Was sitting at the bottom of my entryway stairs eating butter chicken while supervising my cat having outside time in our front yard at night while listening to the new song, was a vibe.
I watched the old hollow knight vods last week because i finished the game and wanted to watch julia’s playthrough. I already knew from other streams that she’d stopped playing it because she wasn’t enjoying it because of chat. I must say tho, to me it seems like she’s gotten a lot more confident in doing her own thing and having fun with the game and it’s great to see that :)!

They're a neat shake-up of the gameplay loop and have some fun unique enemies and architecture/assets! (Isz especially, though that series of dungeons is petty advanced, difficulty-wise.)

As an absolute min maxer in all games, I can't people stand back seating other people's play styles. You guys have fun!
The only unfortunate part of the playthrough isn't the play style or tactics, and isn't necessarily anyone's fault. A LOT of content was missed and is no longer accessible, including two recruitable NPCs, one location and a whole slew of interactions. But that's just really how Fromsoft games work, ultimately.

Then again at the time the definition and more importantly the *sound* of post-rock didn't have much to do with the eventually predominantly instrumental "crescendocore" that was the Mogwai/GY!BE/Dirty Three/etc-inspired third(some may argue fourth)-wave. If you were to have someone listen to late Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis, Moonshake, Pram, Disco Inferno etc and tell them that's post-rock they'd think you're being dense. The old definition was basically "music played with rock instruments and in a rock context to make music that's not rock by any current (early '90s) definition of the word" after all.

The funniest thing about 18:00, discourse regarding extendo-mode and minmaxing: using extendo-mode is objectively suboptimal anyways. Transform attacks are used because they build up Beasthood very well, and some enemies just get staggerlocked by them. Otherwise, it's all R1s for the Saw Cleaver.
By not playing the way that commenter wanted, Julia is playing more optimally.
Inkerton in Shelldenring uses this weapon setup in the late game.
