When I was visiting america in 22 I bought an $10 80’s one piece rod with a red multiplier on from a garage sale and changed the line. Cast out a worm off a dock while having a beer and thought I hit a snag.. after 20 minutes of dead weight with the occasional tug, a 30lb blue catfish came to the surface 😂 had to ask a random to hold my rod while I climbed down the dock to unhook it. My Biggest fish on the cheapest gear I’ve ever owned.

No need for insults. This community is about educating and camaraderie. Out of curiosity, why wouldn’t you for this application?
I can tell you exactly why I used it and it’s not for it being rated 50 lbs. obviously a stradic doesn’t have the drag to ever need that. But during surf fishing, or saltwater fishing in general, you’re slinging around 1 to 5 oz weights. in this case I was using 2 oz weights. If you ever tried casting a two oz weight on a surf rod . You need good knot strength. Second when dealing with such weights and braid, the line gets embedded into the spool very easily. The line diameter of 50 lb vs 20 lb is also far more manageable.
What line would have you used? I’m always looking to improve.
