- Well kids, I played a super fun show at “The Gaaahhden” in Boston last night with the Jim Irsay band.
Go ahead and say what you want about Irsay being a money grubbing billionaire (like you guys always do anytime I mention his name)......but he put on an absolutely free concert for the entire city of Boston that probably cost him millions solely out of the goodness of his heart..
Thanks to all the many Homeskoolers who came out and showed their comfy HS t shirts.
Just some random rehearsal clips, starring...
Duke Levine, Kevin Cronin, Kenny Aronoff, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Mike Mills, Ebo, Carmella Ramsey , Mike Wanchic, Danny Nucci, Michael Ramos and many others
"Go to your cage." Had me in stitches. Natural comedian.
I was coming here to say that! The four chord, the five chord!
Jesus Christ. I nearly lost it when I recognized that Strat. Sooooooo wonderful that such instruments still get out and about to fulfill their purpose. ❤
Rock on Ebo! Personally, I think it’s cool as hell what Mr. Irsay does with his money. Free concerts with great musicians playing killer instruments. What’s cooler than that?
The fact “that” Strat is being played is mind blowing…..simply amazing!😎
Why, is it one of Gilmour's?
The Mrs. and I really enjoyed the show last night. Awesome to see you play live right in front of us. Thanks for the behind the scenes look! Uncle Larry is the coolest cat East of the Mississippi for sure!
We had the best time last night in Boston. Uncle Larry was so great. Perfect sideman. Serious face and all smiles at just the right moments. It was like 4 shows within a show. We go to about 80 shows a year and this was top notch, this was a truely on of the great shows of the year! Props to Jim Irsay he was a humble and fun loving guy, a great host!
Jim can do whatever he wants with his money. I think it is cool as hell he does things like this.
Ebo and Millsy having such a mellow jam over on stage right, while that lead’s tearing up. Awesome. Thanks for sharing as ever Unc. Hats off to JI. And goodnight from Scotland 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Uncle Larry - it was such an honor to be in Boston to see you play live last night. Favorite moment was you playing that tasty solo with Vince Gill giving you space to shine. You and the band rocked!
Yup. That solo with Vince stood out to me as well. He went for it, and nailed it. Nicely done!
Vince Gill was amazing. Must see and hear to believe. He is the best of every country performer our there past and present.
“The” Black Strat. At age 16 in August of 1980 I had saved about $1000 dollars from my after school and summer job and flew with a friend of mine from Texas to London to see “The Wall” concert. David Gilmour playing the solos to Comfortably Numb on top of that giant wall with a spotlight on him(with that guitar) is about the most badass thing I’ve ever experienced. So, so cool that you got to play it.
Hey Tom, it was great to see you live and in person! I was the guy in Boston holding the "I am homeschooled by Uncle Larry" sign, I could not believe you got that pic right to me. It must've been 30 feet through traffic. If this guitar thing doesn't work out for you there maybe a future in professional disc golf. I loved watching you play, so many inversions and variations for every chord that even your rhythm playing comes through in a 4 guitar lineup. I am thankful to Mr. Irsay for the whole show, the memorabilia display alone is museum worthy, but I'm really most thankful for him dragging the session man up to the northeast. Come visit us again soon. Thanks for a great time.
Love Kenny!! He’s just as fun to follow. Great stories and interviews too.
Best free show ever! Uncle Larry and Duke Levine need to be onstage more together.
I think it is great that Jim Irsay is sharing his love of music to many with a great band and for free - awesome. You never know who may get inspired from one of his concerts and become another musical legend.
So awesome to see Uncle Larry on stage with our hometown guitar hero Duke Levine.
Fantastic concert last night uncle Larry! Come back to Boston again! The spontaneous improv with Peter Wolf was hilarious and really rocking!
Thanks for putting us on the stage Uncle Larry with your friends and fellow musicians. That is something quite amazing. And hey, maybe if more billionaires were generous like this Mr. Irsay....their press would improve. A fun transfusion of some joy on a hot, hot day here out west.
My two favorite TH-camrs in one gig! Woot woot! Uncle Larry and uncle Kenny 😁🤘🎸🥁
Thanks for letting us hang with the cool kids!
Whoever that guitarist is playing Comfortably Numb, he was lost in orbit somewhere in the best possible way. So great 👍
Kenny Wayne Sheppard
That was Shreveport, Louisiana's own, Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
@@scottsipes7844 oh snap! I've been under a rock.
I remember Kenny Wayne when he was hitting the scene as a kid back in the day. I've been out of the loop.
@@RyanWellsMusic I didnt recognize him at first either. He looks like a tiny fella up there.
Incredible intensity for a rehearsal !!!!! So many talented musicians it's a beautiful setting
Peter Wolf!! A great guy and friend. Used to fix up his guitars. Boston legend and total rockstar. And Duke....the best.
Thanks for being part of the great show in Boston Uncle Larry. It was like multiple shows within a show. Had to catch the last train out of North Station at 10:55 so I had to scoot before the bitter end. Thank you Jim Irsay for getting Boston on your schedule.!
Uncle Larry AND Duke Levine?!?! More of that please?
Kenny Aronoff great drummer and what a killer snare sound that 15" beast provides.
Well, now I know why I couldn’t backline a Deluxe Reverb for last night’s show - they’re all at the Irsay gig for Uncle Larry, Ebo, and KWS.
I saw a bunch of Matchless- who's were those?
WHOA! Was that THE Black Strat???? Amazing!
I didnt realize the Irsay concerts were free to the community, quite generous.
Fun Homeskoolin field trip.
So cool that you got to play the black Strat, Tom!
Gives you a sense, with him moving around the stage, how important monitor levels are for everyone.
My thoughts exactly
I went to one of these shows in NYC, with Natalie Merchant singing on a few songs, it was a blast. Nice seeing Duke Levine, great player, saw him with Bonnie Raitt. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to see and hear David Gilmour's Black Strat still being used.
So cool to see things being worked out on the fly…A real education.
❤Tom, Boston might have had you but you are OURS. Thank you thank you for sharing this experience with us. We love you.
I need more of this! Thank you once again, Tommy B! Hope you had a great time rockin it in Boston, SessionMan! Wish I was rockin somewhere here in NorCal! Haha!
Years ago, I saw Irsay get interviewed on CBS Sunday Morning showing all of the famous instruments he had in his collection and I was kind of bummed they weren't getting played but, finding out through Uncle Larry that Irsay puts on these shows has been pretty cool. Way better than just seeing the instruments at a museum.
Nice close ups of the "Black One" from Mr Isay's collection, how cool is that! Must have been a wicked bad time for all in attendance.
Uncle Larry! I particularly loved the video you posted of the Jim Irsay tour in SF. You put Kenny Wayne Shepherd in his place and you trained the orchestra!
I was seriously thinking, "Man, who is that dude taking Uncle Larry's solo?" 😮 It's KWS 🤔 I suppose that's acceptable 😂
it took me a solid minute before I realized that is THE STRAT.
This is very very cool! This is the kind of stuff I love to see. Thank you!
Thanks for a fun show. I traveled from Eastern NC for it.
Weather cancelled all flights home. I'll get home about 2AM Tuesday.
Haha I was there and blown away at the entire vibe of the concert!!! got the perfect seat to see Tom switching out his guitars! Just so happy to get the opportunity to see you in action! Even saw ebo!!! Love!
Hey Jim!
@@chrislestermusic Hi Chris!!! Did you make it to the concert or were u working?
What a band! What a venue! ❤🎸🤘
So damn cool
Thanks for signing my setlist. Admired how you carried your guitar on your back as you walked out. How humble!
You have enriched elements of life for me and my family, Uncle Larry. Thank you!
Some guitars never leave your sight 😁
I got a glimpse at the set list…some very cool stuff 😎. And a cool thing for Irsay to put on this free event.
Hey Uncle Larry. You made many memories for those of us who got to attend. Thank you.
Great show brother! Really enjoyed watching you guys have fun up there. Kevin Cronin might be the happiest guy on the planet…watching him play only using his thumb made me smile also😎
Boy, Kenny nailed Dave Gilmour's solo. Note perfect as they say. Holy cow!
Adding a little J. Geils while in Boston is super cool, Peter wolf is the man, as are you Uncle Larry. What a blast.
What a memory some people have
it was amazing Uncle Larry. Thank you
Thank you Kenny LOL. I think he's played on more live shows than anyone else I can think of!! Irsay has always been a good guy IMHO. It's his $$! It's still the USA, and he is free to do as he wishes. I don't have much $$, but I'll always defend his right to do what he wants to with his! I really enjoy these videos of practice, they take me back to my favorite times as a guitar player! I really miss it so much. 8( --gary
man ,,to be a fly on the wall,,thanks uncle Larry
I like how Kenny be having his tom-toms , it's crazy.
Always love to see some behind the scenes soundcheck/rehearsal footage. Also great to see an unreleased Keeley drive in front of your board there, Uncle Larry. Yet another nobels clone perhaps?
Getting guitar lessons from the drummer. Classic HOMESKOOLIN.😂🤙
Tom, I am SO BUMMED! My band played Saturday night so I couldn't make it to see you. Look's like it was pretty cool! See you some time down the road! Chris
Cool gig! Thanks for sharing.
I love Jimmy. Played at his house 20 years ago. He does amazing things with his money that no one knows about. 🤘
This is so awesome. 👏🏻
Whoa, is that Duke Levine???
Great show Tom! Really loved the Vince Gill set!
Sounds awesome. David Gilmore Strat, Duke and Peter Wolf for some Geils. Awesome Tom. Ken from Boston.
OMG the Black start! EPIC man! please talk about it to us mere mortals
That was great, being invited in...thank you for putting it up!
How in the world did I miss this., being 15 miles away,... /facepalm add this to the regret column.
Think he'll ever bring the show to the Baltodome? Seriously though, what he does with sharing the collection and the shows is great.. would love to see it sometime. Cheers to Irsay!
Thank you for sharing. Hope you had fun, and thought of your fans to give us a backstage sample.😊
Thanks for sharing a road gig with us
Uncle Larry !
What a cool bunch of cats
Ebo!! Great video love.
I've been wondering when you were gonna get your hands on Gilmour's Strat. Cool.
If ever a guy deserved to get a play on that guitar Tommy B is the man! Buzzing for that!
Duke Levine !!
way cool. Thanks for sharing as always.
I was there! It was awesome!
Yes, that is the correct pronunciation of Boston Garden... 😄 Wish I could have made it to the show. (Good point about Irsay -- there mush worse ways he could spend his money.)
Ebo kicking ass and taking no prisoners! Hell yeah!
That black strat is an entity of its own.
Cheers!
HM
Rawk! Sounds like quite a varied set list: Pink Floyd, J. Geils Band, not sure what the other songs played were.
Wow, sounds fucking incredible.
Couldn't imagine being able to Jam a Floyd tune on Gilmores Black strat. Talk about a privilege!!!! KWS killin it!
I would think the Dispatch Master would be too long a reverb for most of the styles Uncle Larry plays. Great-sounding pedal for sure…but I struggled with it for rock stuff.
Nice to see Uncle Larry and the crew . Ebo answer your emails when get home.
Duke Levine!
"Go Back To Your Cage" LOL
OMG the drummer at the end of the video was great 😆
love it! Thanks Tom.
What a cool thing for Irsay to do.
Woa, serious band!
Irsay should be in the Washington Commanders Ring of Fame. He seems to have played a big role in forcing Snyder to sell. Dude is more than a good guy in my book.
Duke!
The Black Strat. Tell us all about it Uncle. OMG.
Anyone know what the black pedal to the right of the tuner is? 3 knobs?
New Keeley ??
Tom! Thank you for that!
Gatta keep those drummers in check;) Aronoff is a stud
Uncle Larry playing a $4 million black strat.
Cool stuff Uncle Larry...
was that the Gilmour strat??? dayum
Nobody puts Kenny in a cage!!😂
