@@ionab1102 bingo bango bongo, I love what Black Mirror did a great job of, who are we all really, what are we capable of, what really is right or wrong when it comes to us a humans, and our lives.
Just got into the show a few weeks ago... and wow. Every episode portrays one main character who (by the end) has both good and bad traits and it’s up to you as the viewer to decide if their fate is justified or not. I think the strongest feeling the show gets across is to see the gray area, or at least, bring attention to the fact that human behavior and psychology is unbelievably complicated and nuanced. Pretty much every episode ends on a sad note for the main character, and likewise almost every episode shows the main character fail to achieve their initial goal. Instead they’re presented with a perspective-changing event or series of events that give them a big slap in the face. This episode in particular is one of the strongest in the series (my opinion of course) just because Kenny is such a complex character. Even after multiple viewings, it’s impossible to objectively say if Kenny deserves what happened to him. He did a lot of bad things, and yet you can still sympathize with him in a real way. Kenny was a pedophile, and he was punished harshly for it. Some would say he didn’t suffer enough, and many others say he was unfairly treated. There is no correct answer, and each persons opinion is different from the last. Very impressive show on all fronts, will be recommending to friends whenever I get the opportunity to. :)
There’s a great episode of father ted with tommy Tiernan and he’s a depressed priest in it. He cheers up and at the end all happy and all he gets on a bus the radios playing . It’s Radiohead of course then his face just changes so fast to sad it’s priceless.

The thing is that we get attached to the main character all the episode and then eventually i felt pretty weird cause i didn't know how to consider him like he seemed "normal" and we are like torn between the fact that he love kids which is horrible and the fact that he is a nice guy who won't do anything bad to another one and who just have mental problems
@@doug9533 actually, i felt sorry for him and at the same time i told myself, "hey, he's into child pornography, he's a bad guy". This episode is what i call art. The whole series is such a great artwork, making us use our brain, and see things differently.
I agree, but this episode is strange. We are rooting for the bad guy. The episode shows him as human. With fears and feelings, and not as some creepy guy in the streets. The ending is the opposite of bitter sweet. We are sad for his secrets getting out but also he was looking at kids. It is both A happy ending and a sad ending.
As an audience, we're taught to sympathise with our main character which is why I think this is one of the most powerful episodes of Black Mirror. It takes everything we've learnt through the past few years and flips it on it's head, the ending music was a good final touch - I still gets chills watching the final scene of this episode.
Bro, that was all of us. 😂😂 I think it was done to show us that we can be empathatic to anyone and everyone if we don't know what things they have done. Like, we all saw what the driver had done. He was super open about that, and I think a lot of us judged him. But Kenny? All we knew was that he was filmed masturbating, and didn't want an embarrassing video leaked.
The way the lights reflect on his face and how his eyes widen with horror at 4:22 ... This is one of the most memorable scenes of Black Mirror, in my onion. Spectacular acting. Alex Lawther is one of the best young actors we have.
This episode is brilliant on so many levels. at the start, we empathize with him because it's just an innocent act to masturbate (At least in my eyes, not sure religious folk would agree). And as we go through this shit with him we think "Mate it's better to just let it leak than to do all these horrible tasks". Then... we learn why he's been so adamant about keeping it a secret. just perfectly paced, and because you related and empathized with him at the start, the twist makes it hurt more, is it even something that can be forgiven?
couldn't have said it better myself. I think its super clever to make evil characters seem innocent to make you empathize with them, because that's the way it would be in real life. in other shows or movies, the evil character does crazy things so that any old person would know that character is evil just in the way they dress, or the specific grande way they walk, but in psychological shows such as this and 13 reasons why, it gives you a taste of reality by showing you what could be lying under your nose. you just never know until you know, and until that point you've empathized with this person so much that you truly don't know whether to feel they deserve the worst [as you would for someone similar that u don't know], or if they deserve a second chance because you know what happens behind the scenes. its crazy smart, Idk.
Exactly how I felt watching it. At the end I was pretty relieved and happy he seemed to be done with the whole fiasco, then when the phone call happened, I actually yelled "WHAT?!" I did NOT expect that.
Definitely not something that can be forgiven, but at the same time, vigilantism, typically, is just a way for violent people to excuse violent behaviors. Neither him, not the hackers are in the right here.
Man he didn't even do the diddling so in some way yes it is in somewhat forgivable range for me at least because pornaddiction in general is a slippery slope and it is only a matter of time till you find yourself in the more depraved parts of the net, much less if they have an actual mental issue where they have urges those just suck in general for them and others.
Tbh, the fact he watched child prn never occured to me until the phone call. When the guy in the forest asked him "how young were they" i thought he just didnt answer him because of the shock
I started watching it and I thought him masturbating got leaked up until I read the comments. Then it all made sense why he was so protective of his computer.
I guessed it straight away after the scene with the little girl... I feel like a pervert for guessing it so fast, I mean for the moment I didn't saw someone else guessing it so fast...
@@holysecret2 You're watching Black Mirror, a series shrouded in malice, in which every little interaction has its meaning. If this little scene had no contextual value it wouldn't take any screen time. For instance we can assume all those people take a shit 3 times per day average, still there doesn't have to be scenes for that...it's given and it doesn't add anything to the scenario, it's redundant, unecessary to put on screen...unlike this one. So ye, I didn't immediately figure out the dude was a pedo...but I was suspicious. It's like going deep into the dark web and finding a site named "The Fun Factory!" , you wouldn't click on it, you wouldn't assume it's referring to any kind of playground would you?
I wonder what the guy on the motorcycle did. They never explained what he did that was bad. If Kenny decided to block these trollers from making threats & making him do such odd things, they still would've been able to send the video to his whole family because they were watching him in the "act" when he 1st started looking at the pictures.
this whole episode is so freaky, especially the fact that this very well could happen today. also that all the people involved were blackmailed by something that would absolutely ruin their lives, but it’s all so brutal that it makes you question the level of punishment people like these really deserve. black mirror is insanely good at challenging morality.
@@eftelays Nothing to be scared of if you never did anything, also it's a virus, meaning that you'd have to do something that gives you that vulnerability.
This is the most interesting episode. We portray pedofiles in such an inhuman, monster-like way and this episode portrayed one as relatable and fearful. The perspective this show gives you on life. Scary.
He didn't deserve this imo. If he would have hurt a child then he'd deserve death, or if he paid/donated in any way something to the people making child pornography he'd deserve prison and blackmailed/w.e But if he didn't participate in anyway to the child being hurt then okay he'd serve some jailtime so he could think about it and try to change his mind, but absolutely not getting blackmailed like this. The most disgusting one in this episode is the bully. He could have just called the police or talk with the teen. And he just acted like a psycopath
@piping piping If the crime is not done yet then they should be given psychiatric help and if that is not effective and they are deemed to be high risk then could be put in an institution or castrated. Are you going to lock someone up for having indecent thoughts?
The whole episode I was asking myself why is he so paranoid. A bit of embarrassment but nothing that bad. And then in the end it was waaaa, that's why.
yep definitely an episode worth watching twice, as the very reasons you like him at the start of the episode (the kindness towards the girl) becoming very disturbing with the final revelation. Quality episode and what a performance by Alex Lawther he literally could not be more emotionally in tune with his character.
I remember when I first go into this series and I was binging the absolute shit out of this. When I came across this episode, I was completely oblivious to what was going on, which I love. There were some times, though, when I thought he was being a little overdramatic about the video being sent out, but I chalked it up to him having severe anxiety or something. I spent the entire time rooting for this kid, only to have all of the false pretenses crash down when the other pedo said "how young were they?" God, I get chills just thinking about this episode. They build up a sort of trust between you and Kenny while also dropping hints about his detestable actions. But even then, we never pick up on it. I just think writing like this is so very genius. And the song they chose for the ending scenes really tied it all together, especially during the crescendo.
I agree, but for me it wasn't the how young were they line that made it all click of course it raised suspicion but it felt even worse for me because the moment it sunk in was the moms phone call, which was really powerful. Also another note it felt like through the episode he wasn't like alone because he had the other people involved and there was a sort of a camaraderie with them, and at the end having that destroyed with a single message, and then finding out it was all for naught, the mom's screams I think strongly represent true abandonment, it's truly heart wrenching.
I haven’t seen the show but I’m guessing the oblivion is kinda like the movie “the sixth sense” I wont spoil it but it is very genius writing I would recommend that film it’s amazing
The song was so perfect for this. It just makes that final scene even more powerful and shocking. This episode still haunts me to this day. Great video edit
ss sss because the mum says tell him why when they were kids basically... and it foreshadows this when he passes the toy to the little girl at the start.
Exactly, because at the beginning he could have just been truthful to his mother and seemed mental help for his illness, but instead he goes on to kill a man.

This edit is the perfect example of how to distill a larger story to its bones. Great job condensing an entire episode into 5 minutes, and in a way that still completely conveys the story!
I think Alex Lawther as Kenny might as well be the best and most unsettling performance I've ever seen! He was so good that it's almost impossible not to feel for the character, even after watching the end ... but then I am a very emphatic type of person.
man the child scene almost gave it away too how could i be so blind. I noticed usually in those scenes the guy would flirt with the girl but he was weirdly friendly to the kid instead
What I love is the fact that in trying to get away with his "crime" that probably would have just resulted in a charge of possession and in turn psychological help, he instead digs himself deeper and will now face major prison time because of the fact he robbed a bank and killed someone as well. Spoiler for another Black Mirror episode Crocodile: I like how the two episodes are quite similar, in that Kenny and the woman from Crocodile actively try to hide their crimes by culminating more and more. Its great
He probably doesn't want his family to find out and his life to change forever but due to how shocked he is on what's happening he probably never notices his other options or choices.
Honestly, I think if his family had found out (at a time when he wasn’t more or less already in custody of the police), he would have killed himself. You can see how in the scene before the fight to the death, he barely hesitates before pulling the trigger. There wouldn’t have been any psychological help, that was never an option from his perspective.
Just finished watching the whole episode, demonstrates that you really never know who to trust your children with. Now I understand why I couldn’t ever go to sleepovers as a child.
This is my favorite Black Mirror episode, the end is what got me and combined with this song it was just the perfect twist. Also the actor who plays Kenny is phenomenal.
By far the one of the most unsettling episodes, because it's not far from reality. Most of the time, Black Mirror experiments with future technology, like robot bees or being able to recollect every memory, but this is just based in our time. The twist was so dragged out that it hit me like a truck. The fact that I symphesized the whole episode for Kenny made me sick. Definitely one, if not the best, episodes of Black Mirror ever.
I honestly don't like the pedophile angle for kenny. A kid overreacting to something he considers shameful like masterbating was so much more interesting imo. To me it was more of a lesson on the ruthlessness of the internet and how young people can easily get sucked into thinking their world has ended. From everything I've read, kenny was indeed a pedophile.
@@stuartinkrott7445 But that's what makes this episode so good. We all just think he did something natural that everybody does. The show tries to build a connection, because we'd all be emberassed and wouldnt know what to do in at that age in that situation. We can relate to the character and feel empathy. Once we find out he's a pedophile a conflict starts in our head. We feel all this empathy, but at the same time disgust for what he did. We don't know wether to forgive him or feel like he deserved to go through all of that.
Never in my entire life I've seen a movie, or show that made me laugh like a maniac, feel sad, anxious, depressed, weird, angry and cry at the same time. This episode did that in just 25 minutes.
The look in the older man's eyes when he sees Kenny put the gun to his head is one of the most drained emotions I've ever seen. He realizes this kid has gone through more than what he knows, he feels remorse for him.

Bro, that was all of us. 😂😂
I think it was done to show us that we can be empathatic to anyone and everyone if we don't know what things they have done. Like, we all saw what the driver had done. He was super open about that, and I think a lot of us judged him. But Kenny? All we knew was that he was filmed masturbating, and didn't want an embarrassing video leaked.

i surely do agree with your onion

@@lizzieenergy2761 hes 24
So he's more like a.. young adult actor?
@@Renni-kg6vf definitely the hackers came off like Light from Death note like they were god doing whatever they want.

@@holysecret2 You're watching Black Mirror, a series shrouded in malice, in which every little interaction has its meaning. This is the most interesting episode. We portray pedofiles in such an inhuman, monster-like way and this episode portrayed one as relatable and fearful. The perspective this show gives you on life. Scary.
Pedofiles don't deserve to breathe
He didn't deserve this imo. If he would have hurt a child then he'd deserve death, or if he paid/donated in any way something to the people making child pornography he'd deserve prison and blackmailed/w.e
But if he didn't participate in anyway to the child being hurt then okay he'd serve some jailtime so he could think about it and try to change his mind, but absolutely not getting blackmailed like this.
The most disgusting one in this episode is the bully. He could have just called the police or talk with the teen. And he just acted like a psycopath

The best opening of Tokyo Ghoul xd
I agree, but for me it wasn't the how young were they line that made it all click of course it raised suspicion but it felt even worse for me because the moment it sunk in was the moms phone call, which was really powerful. Also another note it felt like through the episode he wasn't like alone because he had the other people involved and there was a sort of a camaraderie with them, and at the end having that destroyed with a single message, and then finding out it was all for naught, the mom's screams I think strongly represent true abandonment, it's truly heart wrenching.

By far the one of the most unsettling episodes, because it's not far from reality. Most of the time, Black Mirror experiments with future technology, like robot bees or being able to recollect every memory, but this is just based in our time.
