This was a good episode, it may have put the Scootaloo is an orphan theory to rest but at least we finally got to see what her parents are like, and it made some pretty good references too like basing Scoots parents off of Steve Irwin and Jane Goodall...and i especially like how Scootaloo's aunts are officially confirmed to be the show first ever same sex couple i for one find it great for shipping and canon.
"Your child is disabled!" And yet somehow because she has wings, she can walk on clouds. I wonder if they will ever have her fly before the finale or if they'll stick to keeping her disabled. It's why I liked that Scootaloo's life was kept so undeveloped, they didn't mess with it at all this whole time, let the fans come up with a decent backstory, and now it feel like things are ruined. If they have her fly, unless it is executed really well, I don't think I'll like it. I'm not one to get too attached to fan theories, and I try to keep my expectations and hype levels in check, but this episode really just didn't work for me because of what they chose to do. Keep the aunts (although why hasn't she been living with them this whole time either?), or don't have any family at all, I could have done without Scootaloo's parents.

Honestly, I'm glad we finally got to see Scootaloo's parents at long last, especially in the last season of the series, along with more of her family in her aunts as well. Another great review, KP!
A lot of people seem to forget that their are a lot of actual jobs in the world that keep parents away from their kids. The couple who the parents are based on? Guess what they were away from their kids for months at a time and no one calls them bad parents. Scientists that have to do complex research on location? THE MILITARY!!! I see this as all these people who condemn Scootaloo's parents as a big "F you" to our troops. The only issue I see with this episode is that it teaches kids that if they whine hard enough their parents won't make them move with them. Scootaloo should have left. This is likely the last CMC episode ever, so it could have been a good message about growing up. Scoot is my favorite Character of the show and this could have been such a great end to her story arc in the series

The Last Crusade upsets me a lot not only because I thought she was an orphan but because her parents were never there for Scootaloo in the whole show and then they show up after she finds here purpose and figures out who she is, only to try to make her leave it all behind. Their reasoning? 'Its too dangerous.' Scootaloo has survived Sombra's invasion, bullying, the dangers of the Everfree Forest, and at some point, THE APPOCOLYPSE CAUSED BY STARLIGHT! She's literally been through it all and made it out intact. For her parents to decide suddenly to show up and take her away from everything she has grown up with, her friends, her aunts, her home, is a bit messed up even with good intentions. What's worst is they didn't even ask Scootaloo what she wanted. They literally just try to force her to leave Ponyville. Even if things worked out in the end, this episode still makes me a bit angry with Scootaloo's parents.
Yeah, I fully agree that these parents are awful, try as this episode might to make them likeable. You couldn't tell that these two aunts were lesbians without the comics, to be honest. Just living together is very flimsy as far as representation goes. But yay for acknowledging the comics, at least.
I liked her aunts they were adorable. Plus I don't know if it's my mind aiming things but it feels like the show gave attnion to the Dimaomd bloom ship. I'm not saying it's canon becuase they are still kids. But it is a super cute ship.

There was honestly nothing the writers could have done with her parents except what happened here. They were probably not a thought in the mind's of the original writers (it's a whole new staff now, after all), so the new writers had to think on their feet about this. There was no positive twist they could have conveyed, especially in the eyes of adult viewers, so they tried to make them as nice as possible. But, of course, it makes them come off as neglectful parents, which they are. They should not have had a kid if they were fully aware that their line of work is very demanding. They travel a lot and don't seem to stay in one place for long. Not sure how they thought they could manage a kid. Clearly they just dumped Scoots on her aunts and that was that. Speaking of the aunts, there was no way the writers could have written them in to make sense, considering they've never been mentioned in 8 seasons. You are correct that Scoot's parents should have been more involved, but I do not think it was the writers fault. I believe it was a decision between Hasboro and the actual creator, set aside just the wishes of the creator or the fandom community.
I just realized princess twilight the episode said that everything that happened beforehand was in one year so roughly speaking in their world probably 2 years had only passed Since the last time she saw them she seems to have a good relationship with them so maybe that was the 1st time they left either way I have to agree it is pretty selfish to take school away without warning
Scoots parents aren’t at all bad. Their parents. Sometimes they have to be away for long periods of time depending on the job. Also WHY would they care about scoots friends? From my experience and MANY others too. Parents generally don’t care if you want to move or not. Yea they may trie to help you keep in touch with your friends but in the end if you are a minor you don’t get a say. Maybe if you are 18 then you get to say something maybe 16 if your lucky.
My personal headcanon about earth pony and pegasus matings (and this would also apply to earth ponies and unicorns "getting together" too) is that in genetic terms the results are a "crapshoot" - sometimes you get perfectly fine foals of either kind, sometimes you get ones that have inherited the strengths of both races, and sometimes you get disabled foals (as was the case with Scootaloo). If Snap Shutter (earth pony stallion) and Mane Allgood (pegasus mare) knew about this "crapshoot" and decided to get married anyway, then it stands to reason being parents was never something they intended or even really wanted to do with their lives - what happened to Scootaloo makes much more sense if you assume she was basically an "oopsie foal".

I guess I'm almost okay with Scootaloo's parents being absent for so long. I mean, they have jobs that require specialized education, they can't bring her due to the danger, and they did let her stay in the end so they do care. I guess because I have an absent father (as in he's a workaholic and has only seen the football games where I'm on the bench) I guess I have more sympathy but the initial obliviousness is a turn-off.
My personal take is that Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood never INTENDED to (or even really wanted to) become parents - especially if an earth pony and pegasus getting together was known to have a high chance of producing a disabled foal (as Scoots is) that would be a major liability for their career. They may have had a chastity vow (that they failed to keep) and/or practiced some form of birth control (that also failed). In any case, the pregnancy was VERY much something unexpected and unwanted, so they panicked and did what they thought was the best thing at the time - leave the foal with Mane's sister and her partner to be raised by them. Does that make them "bad parents"? Yes, in the sense they selfishly abdicated their responsibility of raising their foal to others. Does that make them "bad ponies"? That's a tougher question to answer; they certainly made some "bad decisions", and we see both here and in a subsequent "Season 10" comic arc that they learn to come to terms with the effects (good and bad) of those decisions they made. But if my ideas are anywhere near correct, then villainizing them is a step too far in terms of criticism.
I agree with you on this episode as why introduce them now but after 8 seasons?! Poor writing I say, not to mention her aunt's where never shown before ether and I just don't see why they just left her a orphan and just made a episode on her finally being able to fly!

I definitely agree with the argument parenthood was NEVER something they intended or even really wanted. This would go double if it was known to them when they got married that an earth pony and a pegasus mating together could have negative genetic consequences for the resulting foals (e.g. physical disabilities). When Mane Allgood got pregnant anyway, the couple panicked and made what they thought was the best decision at the time - leave the foal to be raised by her "aunts". Could you criticize this decision? Certainly. Was there worse things they could've done? Yes. (abortion or straight up leaving her to get eaten by a wild creature) Maybe they're not "bad ponies", but you could certainly argue they made some "bad decisions", and at this point are now having to deal with the consequences of those decisions (good or ill).

But I love her and support her, I'm a single parent so if I gave her a hard time home life would be tough, right? I gave her a cell phone at an early age and I noticed these ideas just kind of popped out once she spent more time on the internet webs... You are correct that Scoot's parents should have been more involved, but I do not think it was the writers fault. I believe it was a decision between Hasboro and the actual creator, set aside just the wishes of the creator or the fandom community.
I just realized princess twilight the episode said that everything that happened beforehand was in one year so roughly speaking in their world probably 2 years had only passed Since the last time she saw them she seems to have a good relationship with them so maybe that was the 1st time they left either way I have to agree it is pretty selfish to take school away without warning

Scoots parents aren’t at all bad. Their parents. Sometimes they have to be away for long periods of time depending on the job. Also WHY would they care about scoots friends? From my experience and MANY others too. Parents generally don’t care if you want to move or not. Yea they may trie to help you keep in touch with your friends but in the end if you are a minor you don’t get a say. Maybe if you are 18 then you get to say something maybe 16 if your lucky.
Makes sense for one of them to be a earth pony, so Scootaloo would have reason to be disabled. The earth pony DNA messed with her Pegasus DNA
My personal headcanon about earth pony and pegasus matings (and this would also apply to earth ponies and unicorns "getting together" too) is that in genetic terms the results are a "crapshoot" - sometimes you get perfectly fine foals of either kind, sometimes you get ones that have inherited the strengths of both races, and sometimes you get disabled foals (as was the case with Scootaloo).
If Snap Shutter (earth pony stallion) and Mane Allgood (pegasus mare) knew about this "crapshoot" and decided to get married anyway, then it stands to reason being parents was never something they intended or even really wanted to do with their lives - what happened to Scootaloo makes much more sense if you assume she was basically an "oopsie foal".

I guess I'm almost okay with Scootaloo's parents being absent for so long. I mean, they have jobs that require specialized education, they can't bring her due to the danger, and they did let her stay in the end so they do care. I guess because I have an absent father (as in he's a workaholic and has only seen the football games where I'm on the bench) I guess I have more sympathy but the initial obliviousness is a turn-off.
My personal take is that Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood never INTENDED to (or even really wanted to) become parents - especially if an earth pony and pegasus getting together was known to have a high chance of producing a disabled foal (as Scoots is) that would be a major liability for their career. They may have had a chastity vow (that they failed to keep) and/or practiced some form of birth control (that also failed).
In any case, the pregnancy was VERY much something unexpected and unwanted, so they panicked and did what they thought was the best thing at the time - leave the foal with Mane's sister and her partner to be raised by them. Does that make them "bad parents"? Yes, in the sense they selfishly abdicated their responsibility of raising their foal to others. Does that make them "bad ponies"? That's a tougher question to answer; they certainly made some "bad decisions", and we see both here and in a subsequent "Season 10" comic arc that they learn to come to terms with the effects (good and bad) of those decisions they made. But if my ideas are anywhere near correct, then villainizing them is a step too far in terms of criticism.
I agree with you on this episode as why introduce them now but after 8 seasons?! Poor writing I say, not to mention her aunt's where never shown before ether and I just don't see why they just left her a orphan and just made a episode on her finally being able to fly!

I definitely agree with the argument parenthood was NEVER something they intended or even really wanted. This would go double if it was known to them when they got married that an earth pony and a pegasus mating together could have negative genetic consequences for the resulting foals (e.g. physical disabilities). When Mane Allgood got pregnant anyway, the couple panicked and made what they thought was the best decision at the time - leave the foal to be raised by her "aunts".
Could you criticize this decision? Certainly. Was there worse things they could've done? Yes. (abortion or straight up leaving her to get eaten by a wild creature) Maybe they're not "bad ponies", but you could certainly argue they made some "bad decisions", and at this point are now having to deal with the consequences of those decisions (good or ill).
I have a 14 year old daughter who is ... Bi? I'm not sure... She/he is all over the place... But I love her and support her, I'm a single parent so if I gave her a hard time home life would be tough, right? I gave her a cell phone at an early age and I noticed these ideas just kind of popped out once she spent more time on the internet webs... I can't say that I liked the openly gay couple on mlp, but I can't say I don't. I mean, the more saturated the media is with the stuff the more it tells kids and everyone that it's okay...
