I have sung this requiem in a choir. I have listened to several boy sopranos who may have the voice but do not have the technical mastery, Aksel is perfect . He has everything; the voice, the simplicity this piece requires and the control. What a treat. My only regret is that I have never heard him live. Bravo jeune homme, et un grand merci.

I asked my teacher if I could learn this song. But then I found this video and realized I'll never be able to do as fantastic a job at it as this 13 year old boy! Well, guess it's time to go back to pop songs and leave the great songs to the great singers! :'D
Seeing Aksel performing this piece with such grace and dignity makes one feel humble.. He is a true proffesional.

Indeed. Faure's original intention was to have a boy soprano sing this part.
The only performance I heard from a treble with such command of the music, and of course beautiful tone. I heard only one soprano in concert who matched that pure simplicity, and it was magic. I was in the choir, and no recordings were made.

You've expressed my feelings exactly. Yes, a great voice and fine technique are a considerable asset; but in all music, but especially my field of religious music ,(I am thinking, e.g., of the late English contralto Kathleen Ferrier), and settings of great poetry, like Vaughan Williams/George Herbert's Five Mystical Songs, there is an additional quality that lifts an artist's performance from the merely routine to the sublime and you have named it : "heart" -- a spiritual affinity for what both text and music are meant to convey. It seems to me this young man has it, and is developing wonderfully as a baritone. I have just listened to his interpretation of a Norwegian "sea chanty" by Alnaes/Wergeland (still a soprano) and was utterly blown away! TRIPLE BRAVOS!!!

Pie Jesu。いつ聞いても胸を打つ楽曲です。本ビデオではボーイソプラノが実に耳に心地よく、陳腐な表現ではありますが、天上の音楽、天使のような歌声であると、そう率直に感じます。
本筋とはやや逸れるかもしれませんが、Aksel Rykkvinが最後に挨拶するシーンーー周りの方々の温かな表情もあいまって、大変素敵なシーンであると感じました。

I don't know how I have managed to miss you particularly as I do follow a couple of Norwegian singers.
You are just brilliant Aksel. Quite the best that I have heard since Aled Jones, but he was a long time ago and you have probably not heard of him although he is still a fine singer and TV personality as well as a very nice man.
I am sure that you will have an equally long and successful career.

This is by far the best sound to ever pass through my ears. I could do nothing but lie down and listen while the music consumed me. I have heard great music before but this was the greatest.
I honestly don't think this movement from the Fauré Requiem could be performed better. Flawless phrasing, prefect tempo, wonderfully clear and true vowels with no affectation. Fauré didn't like his work to be overindulged. This is a modest and unaffected perfect performance.

That being said, I do sing differently when I sing as part of a choir.
I am a choir fan,
but I am more a fan of incredible soloists.
Aksel Rykkvin very true, I was more referring to the opportunities to have so many performances and events to attend and take part in. Trebles in the UK are never outside a choir.
I have real difficulties with many boy choirs' attitudes
(from my own experience and observation).
They are greedy to fulfil their commitment as a unique voice with many facets (which is good at the one hand),
but many choirs do not support able or specially talented and gifted soloists;
and this is a sin, in my view.
You sing like an Angel. God bless you.

Voice already changed since I was 11. And I'm in a choir.
After a somewhat rough start, Aksel settled down to deliver a superb performance of this iconic piece, one worthy to be mentioned in the same breath with that of Aled Jones, whose version I have long considered to be the Gold Standard. He has has an outstanding voice and a very advanced technique--delivered without artifice.
What a charmer you are, Aksel, with your full presence of mind and dedication of heart. Hearing the beauty of this music while watching you perform I am reassured that even young people can give themselves to something of a higher order. We search for transcendence in this life and then we hear something like this... gratitude is appropriate.

I've spent the last month watching trebles on TH-cam and every single one I think of you. No comparison, absolutely zero. I just listened to you and Cai Thomas sing Ave Verum on Spotify and it's like damn...sorry Cai. He's nowhere in the same league. I've heard him sing now as a baritone and the difference is still there. XD
