    Thank you for this very helpful video. You are my salvation. I was desperately looking for a solution to the sound problem with my RDP connections. I have Linux Mint 21.3 and an RDP connection to another Linux Mint 21.3 computer with Remmina to control my telescope. Everything was fine except for the sound, which just didn't work. There was no problem with the sound when connecting to Windows 11 with Linux Mint 21.3 via RDP. Then installed everything on the remote computer as you showed. Didn't work at first. Luckily I had read a comment that mentioned Timeshift. I then did an older restore using Timeshift to cleanly remove the failed installation attempt. Then ALL RDP modules and drivers were removed and the installation was carried out again and lo and behold it worked...hurrah!! With Remmina, the quality of the picture was worse when connecting and the sound stuttered, but it finally worked. I switched to KRDC Flatpak and everything has been going very well since then, sound and picture. Greetings Tom from Bavaria and have a great time

      Exactly the same for me.
      Mint 21.3 - Snapshot rollback - fresh install - KRDC Flatpak
      Works fine for me.

    THANK YOU !!!!! this worked for me on Linux Mint 21.02 and Ubuntu Studio 22.04. After trying so many other tutorials which only ended in error after error, this just worked on my first try, but I would make a suggestion, if you had attempted other methods prior and you run this it will fail, it is better to do this from a clean install, then time Shift and then customize, This really works THANK YOU!!!!

    I'll have to give this a try! Up until 22.04, I've always just installed xrdp and off it went (wasn't much concerned with audio working). But 22.04 just completely borked xrdp natively.
    Thanks!

      That's because Wayland is enabled by default, also if you can you should now use the build in rdp server. It is hardware accelerated and works really well!

      @@LampJustin I finally got to it this morning, and of course audio didn't work I tried several different build options per their docs.
      I'll take a look at the RDP one. Is this the old terminal server project? I know the name was changed at some point, but I lost track of the project.

    I just commented, and got deleted(?). The use case of xrdp I found is to use it with vm's+guacamole+reverse proxy+Cloudflare dns. So when I need to use my pc, I just go to my guacamole domain and use the pc from the browser. Good thing about xrdp is that adjust the display resolution to the browser size.

    one thing that wasn't clear to me... is this creating another X session for the remote connection like VNC does? Or is this logging into the :0 X server display on the host? Meaning, if you went back to the proxmox display, would you see the remote user using the mouse and navigating around in the :0 display or is this a new X display being spawned?

    +1👍thank you, i've had xRDP working years ago, then it broke and never worked again. i just tried this method and it worked with one caveat...
    it told me i had to be logged off of the console, which is an unfortunate disappointment. (2021 workarounds did not solve)

    • @NovaspiritTech
      @NovaspiritTech ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well if you are using xorg then yes you will need to be logged off, just like windows it will kick the user out. but you can use other methods to login while retainting console like x11 i believe

    Have you tested sound in the other direction? Using a microphone, record your voice on the machine running the xrdp server.

    • @NovaspiritTech

      @lexxandr9349 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bro, I tested mic, with your script - it worked!!!
      Thank you, very much!!
      But there is a small problem - I turn on the MP4 file on the remote server to which I am connected via xrdp, and the sound is transmitted with interruptions.
      What could be the problem? At the same time the MP3 file plays fine

    • @KristjanKask
      @KristjanKask 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's most likely about sample rate. There might be mismatch. How did the microphone work, it was always on like on hardware?

    Thanks for the video, with it I was able to set this up on Ubuntu!
    I do get a "Authentication required" box that pops up after connecting saying "The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer", is there a fix for this or must I supply my password every time? I am using Guacamole to connect to this Ubuntu desktop VM on ProxMox.

    This scrpt doesn't work on Raspberry Pi OS. It can't detect OS.

    • @NovaspiritTech
      @NovaspiritTech ปีที่แล้ว +2

      since raspberry pi os is debian 11 you need to just run with -c

    Thank you, I plan to try this next time when I build a Linux computer. I have xrdp on several computers, on some of my computers I am unable to access the default/local desktop. My (somewhat ugly) workaround is to have 2 users, user1 to access the local desktop (sitting in front of the actual box), user2 for xrdp sessions. I did not need sound, so I do not know if sound on works or not.

  • @TheAnigai

    So why would i want this instead of VNC or X11 Forwarding?
    Just because RDP is native to Windows?

    • @SlyEcho
      @SlyEcho ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RDP is just much more faster and responsive (at least Windows as the host). I work pretty much every day over RDP to my laptop which is in the other room on a shelf and I don't even notice it. I can even watch videos with sound.

    • @Darkk6969

      @@SlyEcho RDP is speedy on Windows. I use Remmina daily to connect to my work PC. It had multi-monitor support but with latest version it stopped working. I will have to take a closer look as to why. Also Linux to Linux for remote desktop def use ssh with X11 forwarding.
      EDIT: Apparently on Debian 11 it was using an really old version of Remmina so had to compile the new version from source. Works fine now.

      @@Darkk6969 I had an issue with Remmina, too. Had to delete the spice plugin, some dll hell thing. Welcome to Linux :D
      X forwarding has been kind of bad. If I have ssh access to a system I usually use x11vnc to get a VNC connection to the same session that is up on the other machine.

      You can start new (and virtual) sessions with (x)RDP, not so with VNC (which requires an existing login / desktop being loaded already, which is of little use in shared / business environments). Despite that, you have copy and paste of files directly onto the remote desktop e.g., audio, printer and file sharing and more. An existing RDP session can also exist until eternity regardless of who connects locally or how many users connected via RDP in the meantime, just close the window. Next day, connect again and voila, your session will be right back. RDP can be a real remote desktop working place for multiple users at the same time, which VNC also does not provide (as far as I know at least, but I'm not a linux professional).
