👋 FishTube w/Steve P. I am totally following in your footsteps. (Minus the glass tank build) Thank You for sharing your journey. As always, in a humorous way. I've been wanting to throw in the towel on the whole - thing lately. So .... This is very timely for me. Thanks, thanks & thanks again.
Yep, I still have days where I want to downsize by quite a bit, days where I want to completely get out of the hobby, and days where I want more tanks! Still trying my best not to make any of it a job or a chore - including making videos!
Thanks for posting. We all should embrace our failures and move on. Love your honesty. The reason your tetras dwindled is your spiny eel. I had a few and experienced something similar. You wouldn't suspect them, but they are nocturnal predators and very capable of taking fish in mid-water. I had one that used to destroy tubifex feeding rings at night to gorge the whole lot. They are also good escape artists and can get through the smallest of gaps.
Thanks! I'm not super well-versed on eels, but I think the spiny eel is a different genus than these dwarf red tail eels, which are macrognathus sp. (and there's so little info on these anyway). The eels are the most recent addition to the tank, and the tetras had already dwindled quite a bit at the time. Not to say that the eels haven't taken some out without me noticing it! I was definitely concerned about how they would get along with the tank inhabitants, but so far I've only witnessed them sparring with each other. What really surprises me is that they haven't completely obliterated the colony of neocaridina shrimp in this tank! They were advertised as good community eels, and so far so good!
Excellent structure, storyline and narration! 10/10. Thoroughly enjoyed it. This got me excited to set up my bigger penultimate community aquarium. My worst day as a fish keeper was plop and dropping fish and realizing I had spread ich to about 4 tanks.. Would the FX6 be your top recommendation in terms of canister filters? Understandable that you regret not going the sump route when you went so in on the rest of the setup. Love the light spectrum too 👌
Awesome, Stephen! Great job on both the video and the tank, love it! I was fortunate to hear my CO2 go bonkers the morning after I fidgeted with mine, and witnessed the tumbling fun the fish had. So. Much. Fun! 😅
I just randomly stumbled upon this video. What a breath of fresh air. It's been a while since I genuinely enjoyed and was entertained by a TH-cam video. I even actually laughed out loud. Great video, great aquarium. New subscriber!
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm so delighted to be a subscriber to yours! I was totally entertained by this video. Spit take at "Look At Them" line ;) Seriously, this display and my main display have so much in common: Rainbows. And more Rainbows. Monster Reticulated SAE. And survivor shrimp! And a crap ton of plants. Thank you!
“Clunky McTerrible” I think you should send that name suggestion over to Fluval for the next version. Screams sales hit. 😂 In all seriousness, great video. And it sure is a lovely tank. Thanks Stephen!!
Very enjoyable video! Such a cool tank! My worst disaster was when on a whim I scooped out my three year old Jack Dempsey from its “too small” tank and plopped him into my larger Severum tank and the second I did he spazzed out and then flipped upside down! I felt awful so I took him out and put him back in his original tank in which he passed shortly after. I wasn’t super knowledgeable then and still don’t know exactly what happened other than likely a big ph difference?? My Severum got hole in the head and I couldn’t save her. Sad times. Now I have nano tanks and small community fish which I’m enjoying without much stress or issues 🙂
Wow your tank is GORGEOUS!! 😻 the changeout of the light made a HUGE difference - what a great investment (bc some of these lights arent cheap but so worth it). How much flow are you using for that tank? I’m interested in getting some kali tawa for my river setup in a 40G and curious to know if the Tawa can handle some decently moderate flow? Your fish are popping!! 🤩
Rainbows love flow! This tank has the fluval fx 6 going full throttle, with not a whole lot of restriction from the filter media (sponges and ceramic media, no filter floss or polishing pads), and the output is a 4 foot spray bar just below the water line.
Omg 😱 😍 I feel like I may have Tawas in my futurr!! 🥰 I can only pick ONE schooling fish bc i only have a 40G. Dont want to overcrowd to keep the tank cleaner for the gobies, so i’ve been researching like crazy! Thank you so much for your experienced response and letting me know ur flow parameters. Appreciate it!!
Great Video Stephen P
i like the contrast between the green and the red plants along with the colors of the fish.
It's such a beautiful tank! Especially with that new light 😍
These are my My kind of videos.
Informative and entertaining
That tank looks great! What a journey 🙃
That light is amazeballs!!! I had no idea that it was a diy tank and I saw it in person!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh and more eels please!!!!!!!
Another awesome video in the vault Stephen! Loved it, and your tank with all of it's inhabitants! Thanks so much for sharing your hard work! ❤

Fx6 is great, just make it easy to access!

Very nice Steven. I just planted my first crypt. I have to purchase a diffuser and a hose and then I can start adding CO2.

That's the worst, when you don't know what went wrong!
wow that is crazy and im glad you stuck to the co2 but i woulda called it quits on the co2 part that day.
Yeah, I tend to be stubborn, so instead of quitting I ended up adding co2 to 6 more tanks!
@@StephenP2003 hahahah thats the way to do it :p
soon as you screamed look at them i subscribed
Yay! Stay tuned for more screaming!

😂 Facts
Awesome aquarium, too bad the rainbow detract from the beautiful of the aquarium 😂😂😂😂
😑😂
Actually, I might reconsider rainbows after seeing your aquarium.
What kind of rainbows do you have in there?
Papuae, picta, kali tawa, and boesemani
