Without wanting to do too much, I find that the BET award also has a side for English-speaking artists despite everything. For example for my compatriot fally ipupa in the category best international art 5 times nominated but no reward, not too severe? Rare to see a French speaker win the BET award and say that it is to promote black culture or African origins! Not all blacks are English speakers. It's really unpleasant😔😔

I believe she won it because her songs continue to trend in America radio station. For you too win a BET award you most have a strong American presence.

I am congolese and despite being a big fan of Fally Ipupa I undetstand why he did not win.
There is an element that people tend to forget, when these artists compete the jury base themselves on certain norms and codes. Congolese music despite being very technical and complexe cannot be categorised. There has yet to be any studies, academy to establish any norms... which makes it difficult to judge.
I think the language barrier, despite being correct does not explain everthing.

Maybe she's talking about winning awards internationally, as a Nigerian female Artist, since the Nigerian music scene is a male dominated one.

@@daringroses how many African artistes do win BET awards generally sef? It wasn't quite long that African artists (male or female) were even allowed to grace the main stage of the BET - it used to be a backstage thing for us.
Even African francophone countries do cry foul of not winning.
Asha, I'm not sure has ever won the award..& she isn't better than Asha..she should be thankful for people like that who put in the work..that she is reaping the fruit now.
I understand your opinion, not like I am dragging you or anything 😊 just that her opinion low key kainda angered me. Yes! It harder for women (maybe world wide sef, it has less to do with Nigeria) ..but I think this is a better time for women compared to time pass
I see what you mean and I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, I only want to suggest a few reasons why her words came out the way they did so maybe grace could be extended? She probably didn't expect to win and didn't prepare a speech OR prepared a speech but getting up there to speak became an entirely different situation for her. She probably had 'a million' things going through her mind and was likely so excited that even though she meant well, was unable to articulate properly, so her words didn't come out quite right. It's hard to talk and think simultaneously, so maybe she herself would have loved to word her speech differently but could not for any of the reasons mentioned above and others I couldn't possibly know. I may be wrong however, it seems to me that she really did mean well but couldn't get her words to accurately convey her intentions.
