Trophy truck and Class1 buggies are powered by V8 engines making around 650-800hp to the rear wheels. Buggies are lighter but have worse low-speed cornering, a lot less suspension travel and suspension is independent. TTs are heavier, have better low-speed cornering, bigger suspension travel but axles are rigid (left and right wheels go the same height, that's why you see them do "3-wheel powerslides" at times)
Justin Davis started way too much in the back, he had to deal with a ton of traffic. I know Class1 buggies start behind all trophy trucks but Davis also had to overtake like a dozen buggies during the day
That's not really smart TBH. My years watching the Dakar rally and the World rally championship have taught me that the ideal place to start is somewhere between 3rd and 7th

these guys are made of steel....sure V8 powertrain. amazing power
