Enjoying your reactions. Just to add a few thoughts from an older perspective. That only recently we have hit the Five million mark. For a very long time when alot of the history was made we were only 2.5 million. We all played it at school in the 1960s 70s with just the few non players or the odd soccer player. We played at about the age of 7 and it was tackle or touch whatever you felt like. You played it before school usually touch on the netball courts and tackle at lunch time. After you got home you found some mates and played forcing back until it was too dark to see the ball. Not just a sport to us but a way of life for many communities that brought many of us together particularly in our rural areas. A farmer might drive two hours to practice. He would scrum with the local policeman or truck driver and have a beer after. Families would meet up for the local game at the end of the week a chance for wives and kids to catch up too. Not everyone was good but they played. Some of the smallest clubs have fierce rivalries with their neighbouring towns as you would expect. Even in the seventies whole schools were doing the Haka behind their teams. Did you know a club team Llanelli in Wales beat the ABs in 1972 ! As a kid I cried. Now I appreciate their feat. They were miners and barmen who got the ball and did’t give it back. Good on them they played in the true spirit of the game. Of course we love “. New Zealand actually does have a big problem though, not only is NZR in financial trouble but their school boys are showing less and less interest in rugby and their player pool amongst school boys has shrunk dramatically over the last ten years.
There is no problem. NZ currently has around 15 to 20 world champions in other sports and usually finish in the top 20 at the Olympics, ahead of countries with vast populations. Contrary to popular belief, rugby is not the be all and end all in NZ.

Yeah rugby in nz is vertually a religion when i was growing up in the 70s and 80 s every NZ male i new played rugby at school from age 5. Nz in general is a sports mad nation.which is possibly why nz heads the table per head of populationnon the number of olympic medals won in muitiple olympics Going back to rugby, its a game perfectly designed for Polynesians who are the biggest race of people on the planet, are naturaly athletically gifted, agile and quick
I remember Japan asking nz rugby to send school teams over & visa versa so they could get better. They so loved rugby. There was a proud moment here when they won their first game by the generation who remembered. I was proud of them.
@@ManaBrown-vw4sp not really ...I'm 65 and didn't have anything to do with kids rugby, or any rugby, split up with my wife went overseas, no rugby where I was, never seen my kids play till I come back and my boys were fully grown men
The real reason New Zealand is so good is because they steal players from Samoa, Tonga and Fiji 😂 they offer them great deals and better living situations so they get bought up through the New Zealand system... Thats why when a lot of players stop playing for New Zealand they go back tho thier home country and play for their team. Like tong and Samoa especially had a bunch of Ex All Blacks playing for the original home team.
Go to two cents rugby and you will see the exact stats. There were three players not born in NZ. Living here as teenagers for the likes of thirteen years before selection. They are Kiwis mate ! NZ is multi cultural and that is our strength. Did you know there are more Samoans living here than in Samoa.
There were 5 overseas born players in the All Blacks squad for the world cup. 2 from Tonga, 2 from Australia, 1 from Scotland. Their were 53 NZ born players playing for other nations at the Rugby World Cup.
Money will always be reason NZL lose players. Cost of living here is so high, incomes are low..I don’t blame prospect players or current players who leave for contracts overseas. Nothing NZL can do about it.
Considering NZ is a first world country, and South Africa is a 3rd world country, you might understand the difference. We fight for EVERY game SA plays
9:08 - on the right is Sid Going a great halfback mid 60's - 70's a tough lil' bugger he was too, a Maori, a farmer from 'up north', he had an uncanny knack for finding the try line when needed most, a legend. his nick name "Super Sid" was apt. sadly he passed away May 2024. peace
It's simple. New Zealand has the world renowned warriors the Maori who toughened up the hearty white settlers. Then the powerful Islanders arrived... This is the true secret to New Zealands rugby success. The perfect melding of cultures. The mercurial rugby of the Maori mixed with the toughness and technical skill of the farm stock Pakeha, and the raw power and elusiveness of the Islanders.
I grew up in Otara and I would see kids (mostly islanders) playing rugby in back yards, on roads, at parks, in church car parks, schools, in the house, in classrooms, rugby clubs all hours of the day everyday lol
This guy is looking at hard numbers. Take the lead against SA. 62-39....vs the matches that do matter. The world cup matches 4-4. Ye. SA barely ever played serious Rugby when the chips aren't down and would rather let some of the other boys get some experience while NZ put their best players in. We just play Rugby in another way. Another thing the AB's have been lacking recently is Discipline. The Red card in the finals proves it. While one of SA's Yellow cards was actually a brilliant strategy to prevent NZ from scoring 7 points. There are many breakdowns from Kiwi's that stated exactly why SA was the superior team. Eben even forced a knock-on to give NZ 3 points, to mitigate a 7 pointer. NZ was playing 2d chess while SA was playing 3d chess. The problem comes from NZ being afraid of SA. Because they know it will be a nail biter and they know SA is a physical team that enjoy Tackles and Our kickers are some of the best in the world. Look at our numbers in kicks. 100% NZ failed twice and that cost them the finals. So i'll put it clear and simple. NZ and SA are 50-50. Ye both teams have their off days and both have their strong days. But they are pretty even. After that there is Ireland, England and France. They have good Rugby teams too and those teams are really close to SA and NZ but they lack teamwork.
False already from video. We were introduced to tackle rugby at 8. So 5-7 yrs old doing rippa rugby. Then 8 and upwards tackle rugby. Obviously there’s still the rippa option but us kiwi lads get straight into the nitty gritty
17:23 I agree 100% but then all the great rugby players will get drafted to NFL which is why America will never have Rugby Culture unless then pump more money into the sport.
The reason why America will never be a contender when it comes to Rugby is because your Healthcare System sucks. All the top countries have universal Healthcare. So when it comes to injuries it costs them nothing for treatment. Whereas in America it costs thousands so kids aren't growing up playing. There is also no money in televising games as there is little opportunity for ad breaks when there are no breaks in play.
sorry to say it wasnt ripper rugby it was BULL RUSH ! at that age 5+ years You learn to hit , run take hits , It was all about speed and out maneuver the other kids and when you get older you already know how to do these things. The haka is the pride of a nation and culture doesnt matter if your parkeha / white or from another different culture or anything if you put effort and mana into it your awesome for even trying
No, bro when fees to play out weight the fun factor because of the economics no one wants to play 😂. Minimizes the economics and let the talent shine .
They got it a little wrong about those first two tours, not every game played is a test, many matches were played against regional teams or club teams, tests are only the games played against the national team, typically those early tours would have played 4 or 5 tests.
@11:50 "Do yall kiwis have the option to play tackle rugby?" Yes. In fact, Rippa Rugby is only recent. I don't hate the soft version of the game, but 20 years ago there was only tackle rugby. @19:50 it is true that more money brings in more interest, but school boys are not thinking about the money, they are just playing a game. There are very few ways for a school boy to look at a career in sports in NZ. We just out here grinding.
how do all? i grew up in auckland where primary school, [ 5 - 11 yr olds ], catholic, would let us play rugby league, [ no rucking ], with a kick or turnover after six phases, from age nine. at secondry school, st peters college, [ 12 - 18 yr olds ], only union. cheers, taztez.
Dan Carter was unquestionably the best fly half in rugby union, he makes my all-time best XV. But to call someone the best player of all time is difficult to say the least; how can you compare a fly half with a prop forward?
Yeah man, it's hard not to be bitter but we lost fair and square. Would like to see some things change for the future of rugby, but bring on 2024, a new era under razor.
😂😂😂 Crack up hori. Every stormtrooper ay ? You do realise that the Storm Troopers are actually a maori gang that have chapters in Manurewa, Mangere, and Dargaville ?
I Discovered the genuine reason behind New Zealand's rugby prowess... Legend has it that a spirited game once thrived among young Kiwi children during school breaks, played amidst a labyrinth of squares etched onto the concrete. This game, involving a ball and demanding a myriad of skills, was renowned for its intensity, requiring years of dedication to truly master. However, its vigor also carried risks, often resulting in injuries for those not adeptly skilled. Though this game has faded into obscurity, whispers persist that its roots trace back to the mythical city of Atlantis. The game is known as... hel y'tharun o Er.... in the atlantian language. Unveiling the rules of this game holds the key to unlocking humanity's true potential." FACTS...
No. Four Square is definitely not the reason behind our rugby success. It's bullrush. You're probably from the younger soft nanny state generation that is banned from playing this brutal school kid sport, so don't even know what it is.
Wrong Wrong Wrong....They Underestimate how important Rugby is on a primary school level here in SA. Hell our school even performed a HAKA like NZ because it looked cool and we did everything to make Rugby enjoyable. Must be a Kiwi who made this Video. xD No wonder they lost because they don't see the bigger picture. The test matches mean nothing. They are the training ground for new players. You need to lose before you can start winning. Here I thought people in SA had over inflated EGOS when it came to rugby. Fun Fact. SA has a lot of AB supporters...why? Because of Racism and Apartheid. SA was a HATED team before 1995 world cup. But Mandela changed that and slowly black players began to emerge because the teens of color in primary schools were allowed to join Rugby. Some of those players were in school with me. But sadly a knee injury stopped me from continuing Rugby. Schools here in general have enough players too fill 5 team's worth. A,B,C.D and E teams. So no. Our pipeline is fine.
The Springboks are still hated because they play cowardly rugby. Two tries in four world cup finals is just laughable and oh so saffa. That's why they get minimal respect and aren't seen as true champions by the rest of the world.
Bro if you think NZ dominating the global rugby scene is amazing - You'd be incredibly fascinated to hear that samoa, a country thats literally a dot on the atlas, produces more first draft pics than any 52 states of America. FACTS! Keep up the Good work 🔥
Nail on the head with Economics at play. The best players I played Rugby with from 5 years old growing up here in NZ, have now been recruited into Australian Legaue teams. Dylan Brown, couldve been the next Dan Carter, instead got lured away to Auzzie league, because the local rugby couldnt offer him enough and the Auckland Schools didnt want him. Now hes one of the best in Paramatta Eels.
I haven't watched or read anything to do with rugby since the last 2 minutes of the RWC Final (slowly transitioning back into society...hahaha) - this has helped - thanks bro. Congratulations South Africa.
The thing with a number of Rugby rivalries, go back over a hundred years. So you know that’s some Historical pride in it. No team wants to go down particularly All Blacks and Springboks, as the team who lost that year! We in New Zealand 🇳🇿. Particularly with some senior players leaving. Have to reinvent ourselves again. Put more finances into attracting talent from all over the Nation. Not just elite schools. Get rid of Super Rugby and get back to promoting the game in the provinces. Building as many as we can, into a position they are a financial commodity that each area can invest in. The days of the Great Ranfurly Shield Days.. School kids would get the day off to watch their teams play home games. It was a real family game.
Being a Kiwi if the states rugby comp gets more international players from all countries that would also breed better players there also getting good coach's would be a massive step too Ian Foster's up for grabs if I'm a country like USA I would approach him why not
Ripper rugby for kids is the same as you guys , switches to tackle around 9 years old . Have you seen the rugby 7s tournaments ? 7 players a side , 7 minutes each way . A way faster paced game and a next level of fitness . USA host one every year . Check out Buck Shelford Toughest All Black ever had his Nuts ripped open and still played . Congrats SA best RWC final ever , Kia ora .
Actually public schools produce ABs aswell I think you interpreted it wrong bro what they were saying is that schools are just focusing on the elite team as in the 1st XV so not much investment elsewhere which is causing the decline rugby is available in both private and public schools here
I’m kiwi in Sydney but picked boks to win but not because of talent….but the boks are more resilient under pressure….that’s where a crusaders coach would have been better.
This video leaves out the fact that during the time period from the early 1900s to now that SA have been just as dominant as NZ. NZ didn't get a positive winning record against SA until 1996. NZ has dominated the modern era, that I will agree on, but wait... hold on, what about that insane Australia team that owned the 1990s and the fact that during all this SA have picked up more WC wins than NZ (Aus had 2 WC wins in the 90s). People seem to forget that before 2011 the NZ team were known as chokers in World Cups.
yup the boks record definately declined with the introduction of neutral refs once it went professional. Also we couldnt send full strength teams there. Some weren’t welcome , and when they became ‘honourary whites’ some legends chose not to go

Sean, no offence taken, the Haka back in the late 1800's - 2000 was culturally misappropriated however, consultation happened and Te Kapa o Pango was composed for the team. In my humble opinion, the Haka should ONLY be performed on homesoil in Aotearoa NZ, unless requested by our hosts... it's arrogant to think otherwise.
I disagree, for several reasons, but here's one you may appreciate. When flash mobs perform haka in cities around the world, or the 30,000+ New Zealanders showed up after 9/11, the world sees why Maori New Zealand is remarkable and how deeply unifying the performance of haka is, and a people showing pride and unity in their history, land and culture. It's such a beautiful and unusual combination of art, spirituality, respect and ceremony that more cultures should consider creating their own for themselves. When little kids practice the haka in front of a TV, it's not to appropriate the haka, it's to rejoice in participating. the haka,
@@hwy1983 with all due respect, flash mobs are a modern form of misappropriation, especially if performed overseas. Flash Mobs are not entering into a battle against opponents therefore, taken out of context (not protocol), I do agree with you that the indigenous culture is more prominent in 2023 than 1923. Over the last 20yrs, the indigenous culture has flourished significantly that co-governance at a regional level to stop MORE foreign ownership is paramount. Poor Resource Management over the past 100yrs by previous governments has been appalling. The good news however is, If there is any country on planet earth that could achieve this possibility, it must be world leaders NZ. We are already greatly admired by other western societies and indigenous cultures around the world. Openly showing awareness, understanding and the importance of our indigenous people and culture. Although many NZer's will push back and find it difficult to comprehend and accept the inevitable cultural shift in Aotearoa NZ.
Not the whole story man. Put pure pure home born NZ players in as an All Black team and you wont see these victories. Look up a video from a NZ youtuber Mark from channel Two Cents Rugby and he has a video each world cup on foreign born players playing for different countries. A real eye opener as South Africa and four more minor coutries were the only countries who played without any foreign internationals in their team this year. Born in their country, play for their country colours 100%. NZ in many ways can be seen as a type of British & Irish Lions type team. All other countries will be weak and frail if you remove their foreign born players
@@shade-newt9376 I’ve seen that video that Mark/2 Cents Rugby mentioned about foreign born players. What that chart doesn’t specify is why. Firstly, it’s not illegal or against World Rugby regulations to have foreign born players in any rugby team. Let’s use the 23 ABs team that played in World Cup final, out of that 23, there was 6 foreign both players. De Groot & Lomax both in Australia, Ethan grew up in NZ and came through NZ schools system. Lomax came through Aussie schools but has been playing in NZ since 2017 when was 21 & also wanted to represent his Māori heritage but most importantly, both their sets of parents are Kiwis. Nepo Laulala although born in Samoa, grew up and came from NZ schools system. Finlay Christie born in Scotland, moved to NZ when he was 7 & came through NZ schools system. Taukeiaho & Frizzell, Tongan born but Sione moving to NZ when he was 16 for his final years of high school and Shannon moving to NZ when he was 21 to play for a professional contract & $ for his family that Tongan rugby couldn’t give him. Like I said, you can complain all you want about a “pure born” team but it’s not illegal & you on your moral superiority saying your team is better cause you don’t have foreign born players is hilarious, it doesn’t matter, a win a is win no matter where a player is from. 6 out of 23 players, that’s not even barely half the players. Even Beast Mtawarira was representing SA as a Zimbabwean before he got to be a South African citizen. To call the All Blacks a British & Irish Lions Team is just as disparaging and disrespectful as calling South Africa a quota team and Siya Kolisi a quota Captain.

Yeah rugby in nz is vertually a religion when i was growing up in the 70s and 80 s every NZ male i new played rugby at school from age 5.
Nz in general is a sports mad nation.which is possibly why nz heads the table per head of populationnon the number of olympic medals won in muitiple olympics
Going back to rugby, its a game perfectly designed for Polynesians who are the biggest race of people on the planet, are naturaly athletically gifted, agile and quick
8 countries, the All Blacks lost a test to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)
I remember Japan asking nz rugby to send school teams over & visa versa so they could get better. They so loved rugby.
There was a proud moment here when they won their first game by the generation who remembered. I was proud of them.
I knew your heart hurts when we beat New Zealand. You hypocrite😅
New Zealand is generally good in sports. They are also good at cricket and netball
That ain't even the half of it. What a piss poor comment.
was no ripper rugby when I was a kid, was full contact tackle rugby right from first year of school...5 year old to 100 tackle
Can't u remember new image rugby two hand touch on the waist I'm 40yrs old and that was wen I was like 9/10yrs old
@@ManaBrown-vw4sp not really ...I'm 65 and didn't have anything to do with kids rugby, or any rugby, split up with my wife went overseas, no rugby where I was, never seen my kids play till I come back and my boys were fully grown men

You see those stats 👀
@@bushman6390Exactly….after these type of people make these absurd statements, they disappear.
There were 5 overseas born players in the All Blacks squad for the world cup. 2 from Tonga, 2 from Australia, 1 from Scotland.
Their were 53 NZ born players playing for other nations at the Rugby World Cup.
Bless you my brother, always entertaining and genuine. Following your for years now and hopefully many more
Money will always be reason NZL lose players. Cost of living here is so high, incomes are low..I don’t blame prospect players or current players who leave for contracts overseas. Nothing NZL can do about it.
You are on brother. Love how you can read the rugby game. Thank you, stay solid
I was 5 years old when playing tackle rugby
I was 4. Manurewa under 6.
Bro there was none of this flag football shit when I was a kid , only tackle cuz
It's the nanny state times we live in perpetuated by Great Britain and America.
It was tackle rugby when i was a kid lol
It's the nanny state perpetuated by Great Britain and America. They ruined society.
Considering NZ is a first world country, and South Africa is a 3rd world country, you might understand the difference. We fight for EVERY game SA plays
Yo I was forced to play tackle rugby wit my brothers when I was like 5 😂😂 now I just play at lunchtime at school
9:08 - on the right is Sid Going a great halfback mid 60's - 70's a tough lil' bugger he was too, a Maori, a farmer from 'up north', he had an uncanny knack for finding the try line when needed most, a legend. his nick name "Super Sid" was apt. sadly he passed away May 2024. peace
We have world titles in lots of different sports mate - we punch well above our weight.
They have good Rugby teams too and those teams are really close to SA and NZ but they lack teamwork.
world cup 2031 is in USA for people who's love rubgy here, hi from france ^^
False already from video. We were introduced to tackle rugby at 8. So 5-7 yrs old doing rippa rugby. Then 8 and upwards tackle rugby. Obviously there’s still the rippa option but us kiwi lads get straight into the nitty gritty
We are respected in rugby. Nothing wrong with the HAKA Bro

Lets play the game with a full team ay when have the Springbok complained about getting hit too hard thats the name of the game 😊
Theres a place called Rugby??? 😂😂😂had no idea

Dan Carter was unquestionably the best fly half in rugby union, he makes my all-time best XV. But to call someone the best player of all time is difficult to say the least; how can you compare a fly half with a prop forward?

Unveiling the rules of this game holds the key to unlocking humanity's true potential."
FACTS...
Wales hasn’t beaten the AB’s since 1953 that’s insane and it took Ireland years just to get their first win against them
Bro if you think NZ dominating the global rugby scene is amazing - You'd be incredibly fascinated to hear that samoa, a country thats literally a dot on the atlas, produces more first draft pics than any 52 states of America. FACTS! Keep up the Good work 🔥
That's no brag. Samoa are a country and american football is a soft sport.
Better to brag about the great Samoan boxers.
League is a minor world sport. Top rugby players earn far more than league players. Stop talking kaka.

When little kids practice the haka in front of a TV, it's not to appropriate the haka, it's to rejoice in participating.
the haka,
@@hwy1983 1st you hunted them t near extinction nou you ecelebrate them. its bizare, arcane and this tribal bs should stay in the past.
@@hwy1983 with all due respect, flash mobs are a modern form of misappropriation, especially if performed overseas. Over the last 20yrs, the indigenous culture has flourished significantly
that co-governance at a regional level to stop MORE foreign ownership is paramount.
What about Fidji! What about Samoa?
Silly fobs
Not the whole story man. Put pure pure home born NZ players in as an All Black team and you wont see these victories. Look up a video from a NZ youtuber Mark from channel Two Cents Rugby and he has a video each world cup on foreign born players playing for different countries. A real eye opener as South Africa and four more minor coutries were the only countries who played without any foreign internationals in their team this year. Born in their country, play for their country colours 100%. NZ in many ways can be seen as a type of British & Irish Lions type team. All other countries will be weak and frail if you remove their foreign born players
ABs are a British & Irish Lions type team? Get out of here mannnnn hahaha.
@@Auth0R_M0RGaNyep. Filled with all the other Fijians, Samoans and Tongans they can get. Go look at the f'ing video I mentioned in my comment.
