I might be odd man out, but during the summer (103 F here today in Arkansas, USA), I enjoy reading stories set in the wintertime! 🥶 Thanks for the recommend of P.G. Wodehouse!
Thanks! I see my TBR growing because I can not resist the majority of your recommendations. You are looking wonderful, like a summer rose! I was a little worried because you did not appear on youtube last week, now I am glad to see that you are doing well and I would like to wish you and Donna lots of happy moments this weekend and week.
A summer suggestion is Seventeenth Summer by Maureen Daly. This is the only novel by this author and was written when she was very young. The writing is so strong though, and all the details and little observations about life create a whole mood. The story just feels beautiful and pure- like it captures what it is like to be 17 and from a small town and in love. It's set during the 1950s in a Wisconsin town along the lake. Angie has just graduated from high school and is planning to go off to college in the Fall. She starts to date Jack and begins to wonder what it would be like if her life went in a different direction and she stayed with him instead of going to school. I had not read it for a few years and decided that summer was the perfect time for a re-read.
Another excellent video. After your previous list, I happened on a copy of A Day In Summer by JL Carr- serendipity seems summery somehow, and a welcome element even though I plan most of my reading. I was in York recently, and went to Fossgate Books on your recommendation, and bought a Folio Society edition of Down the Garden Path by Beverley Nichols which I'm enjoying. I loved Minster Books too. Enjoy your summer!
Having followed you for several months now, I have inevitably read two of these books mentioned before and I’ve just started Joy in the Morning. Thanks to you my TBR gets longer and longer… thank you! ❤️
I have not even watched your video yet and already giving a thumbs up! I love your videos! I have found so many great books and authors I never would have tried if not for your videos.
Hi, Miranda, I’d like to read almost ALL of your 'book buffet', you presented everything so inviting. Just now I’m taking part at 'Jane Austen in July', but I need some breaks like P.G. Wodehouse and Agatha Christie. Lovely calendar leporello in the background… Greetings from Germany, Monika❣
Another great list of possibilities, thank you, Miranda! I am especially intrigued by The Driver's Seat and intend on picking that one up. 🙂 I would love to learn more about the wallpaper (or is it a mural?) in your room, it's just gorgeous!
Thanks! Miranda I have to tell you I have a horrible book hangover- I’ve finally read The Shell Seekers and oh my heavens what a gorgeous wonderful book. Only problem is I now can’t read anything else as nothing else compares! I am hoping I can read one of these you have highlighted to take me out of my slump! Thanks as always for your amazing picks!
Thanks so much for your lovely support, Judi! I'm so happy you enjoyed The Shell Seekers so much. Have you read Coming Home too? Highly recommend moving on to that one if not! xxx
@@MirandaMills thank you for the recommendation- I had only ever read Winter Solstice by this author (also recommended by you, which I also found positively enchanting!) - I wasn’t sure where to go next - she has quite a few to choose from, all with beautiful covers, but I settled on September to read next. Coming Home will be after that!
Hi Maranda, I just wanted to say that I enjoy your videos so much and also the ones when your mom is with you.. you talk about such fun books. Makes me want to read them all.
Hi Miranda, thanks for a lovely set of recommendations. I love the sound of 'British Summer Time Begins'. I'm going to dig out my copy of 'The Greengage Summer' by Rumer Godden, an old favourite of mine, to read this summer.
Thanks to you, I really enjoyed listening to Joy in the Morning. I am so tired right now, it was the perfect way to relax. It's not often I find myself laughing out loud from a novel, but P.G. Wodehouse never fails.
You have stirred some authors from my youth, such as Mary Stewart. I have placed an order for an M.M. Kaye book as well as Mary Stewart. I read her FAR PAVILIONS in my teens and loved it. I wish that libraries held on to these wonderful books, but I know that time passes and reading trends change. Not always for the better. I love this channel. I don’t have friends who read as I do. (How can that be?!!). Your channel is a delicious treat as bibliophiles gather here to share their love of reading. We may never meet, but I feel that you are a long distance friend. May I ask if you have pen pals? Sadly, that’s something that my friends do not have in common with me, either, letter writing. Gosh, I need to look for new friends!!!😄 It is easy to perceive how rich and full your life is. Well done. Thank you for taking the time to share your love of books. It’s a lovely visit for me, and many others , I know. God bless you and your sweet mother.
Thank you very much for your kind words! I had a lot of pen-pals when I was young; these days I consider my blog posts / instagram photos and videos as a form of pen-palling! I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead xxx
These are going on my list!!! I love some of the same tropes as you so I can't wait! Would you ever do a video of recommended armchair travel novels and boarding school favorites?? I love both and would love a video on those exclusively if you haven't done already! 💜 Have a great week!
Last Saturday I happened to pick up "Jeeves in the Morning" aka "Joy in the Morning" at our library's weekly book sale! I'm almost finished. I love Wodehouse and plan to listen to the book club later this month from Los Angeles. I so enjoy your channel. We have similar tastes in books and I'm a complete anglophile. Love the mug and vase of flowers. Thank you to you and Donna!
Hi Miranda, love the sound of Appointment With Venus as I really enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. One Fine Day has been on my tbr list for ages - this is the month I am determined to read it 😀 Have a lovely weekend.
Miranda, I picked up 'Rooms of the Own : Where Great Writers Write' on your recommendation, and am delighted with it! I generally buy used books so wouldn't have discovered this one likely. I have decided on a summer reading project of one book by each author whose workspace is profiled in 'Rooms of Their Own.' Most of these are already on my shelves so a bonus to my wallet!
Another wonderful video, thank you Miranda. I read Sarah’s key quite some time ago too, and I agree with everything you said. I need to reread it myself. I finished the June CC book just a few days ago and now I want to read A snowfall of silver, but I’m having trouble finding a copy. But I can get Under A Dancing Star easily, so I may pick that up while I continue the hunt for Freya’s story. Every video you do Miranda seems to introduce me to authors and books I would never have found on my own. Rumor Godden comes to mind first, I loved China Court so much, I read two others immediately after. You seem to know exactly what I’m going to love reading, and British Summer Time Begins is topping the list I made from this video. Thank you as always and hope you have a lovely weekend💕
So many favorite authors here. I have yet to read A Wreath of Roses. On the list it goes. You also have me intrigued by Sarah's Key and Appointment with Venus. As usual, I can never choose just one from your recommendations to add to my list! I hope I can find a copy of the Judi Dench audio here in the U.S. She's such a favorite, and I'd love to hear her inhabit Lise. Currently I'm engrossed in Louise Erdrich's The Sentence. What is not to love about a haunted bookstore? Thank you for all of these wonderful suggestions. I'm looking forward to the book club discussion later in the month. Happy weekend to you and Donna.
Thank you so much for your kind support, Pamela! It's much appreciated. Sarah's Key and Appointment with Venus are both excellent reads. Glad to hear you're enjoying The Sentence! xxx
I love watching your Channel and all of the Book Recommendations you give. All of these Books sounds really good and enjoyable to read. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🔰❤️
Hi Miranda! I like the sound of Appointment with Venus. I have been meaning to read Mary Stewart so This Rough Magic Sounds like a good place to start. I will be reading Joy in the Morning soon and also hope to get an Agatha Christie in. Thanks for your great suggestions. Have a wonderful weekend!

What a lovely start into my weekend. I will have a cup of tea and then ENJOY your book choice . Wish you and you Mum a great weekend. (You look very beautiful !)
Love your recommendations. I've not read P.G. Wodehouse in years so shall get it back out again and have a go. Absolutely love your summer frock. Just beautiful. Cheers from Canada.
The covers of all your books just kill me with envy. 🤣. British book publishers really know what they're doing. I'll be checking out Jerrard Tickel. Just finished Tove Janssons book The summer story. I see a light at the end of my reading slump tunnel. Finally! Thanks for another great list. Sending you my very best wishes. 📚👍💕
Am half way through my first Mary Stewart - My Brother Michael. As I always seem to be commenting about various authors you introduce me to, 'I can't believe I've never read anything by her before!!' It's hot Greek setting is perfect reading for our current hot weather. Another first up next - Angela Thirkell and August Folly. Thanks so much, Miranda for your wonderful recommendations 💐
Thank you Miranda for the fun recommendations. I love One Fine Day and I hope you enjoy your re-read. I remember my Mum telling us to make sure we were back before it got dark when we went out to play for the day aged five and on, makes me take a very deep breath now when I think about it. I think I may have to put Ysenda Maxtone Graham's book on my list! Happy reading, Teresa 📚
Back in May you recommended the book, "Before the Coffee Gets Cold," by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Your synopsis intrigued me, so I ordered it (and read it in one sitting). Then I ordered the next in the series, "Tales From the Cafe," and read it in one sitting. And - I've pre-ordered the third in the series, "Before Your Memory Fades.". So while my book budget for the month was blown, I'm so glad for the suggestion. Such heart-felt tales. They made me happy, made me sad, made me think!
Please please read Hotel du Lac by Anita Brookner. It is the ultimate autumn novel and I read it almost every year in autumn. It won the Booker prize in the 80s but now seems to be somewhat forgotten. Nothing gets you in the mood more for autumn than this book. I love the channel keep up the good work
Thank you Miranda for all the July recommendations! Took notes to order a few. ☀️😘 One fine day is in my list, Sarah’s key sound intriguing. Have a wonderful Weekend!📚🌸

Hello Miranda, fab recommendations for July. I just found a second hand copy of the very same Virago Modern Classics edition of 'One Fine Day' and snapped it up. When I saw its green spine, in my head I was going "Miranda, I found that book!".🙂 So that is on July reading list. All best wishes, Jason

I very much look forward to your monthly book selections and seasonal reading has become a delightful new habit. I am now eager to read "Appointment with Venus" and "One Fine Day". "Sarah's Key" was a remarkable and haunting book and I've watched the movie several times. Recently spent a relaxing summer afternoon reading Mary Stewart's "Rose Cottage" which takes place in June and has lovely descriptions of the English countryside. My edition also has charming illustrations which added to the pleasure of the read. Your top is beautiful and very "mid - summery". Thank you Miranda for your recommendations!
