My father worked for Cementation on the construction of the hydro-electric scheme and particularly Stwlan dam in the late 1950’s early 1960’s. It is the most beautiful place to visit. That switch back road in front of the dam has appeared in many 60’s TV shows as a stand in for an alpine road, a stunning part of the world.

Made it as far as the dam today, with my children, if I’d of had local knowledge or a map, I’d of got to the top, fantastic video

Hi Tin Tent Adventures, thank you for your kind comments, you did well to do that with children, the rest of the walk was long and hard, in fact most of our walks are really geared for regular ramblers alike and requires some fitness as they can be around 7 to 10 miles distance with some steep hills, take care and all the very best from Epic Walks Wales.

Fantastic Vid, Very clear sights of the whole area, but slightly? confused as to your descent? the path from Moelwyn Mawr is fairly goodish, and goes NORTH, to Rhosydd Quarry, then down the miners path to head of Cwmorthin then exit to Tanygrisiau, but you went EASTish and come out somewhere at end start of Llyn Cwmorthin? (from memory there's no path?) and is difficult.
Anyway you made it, great vid

Many thanks for your kind words Bryn, there are a few ways back, we followed another party we met at the top on the day who had a map and suggested it was the shortest circular route back to the car park, so we followed them, if there is a better route back I would gladly explore on the next visit, take care from Epic Walks Wales.

Is this suitable for dogs to do full circular?

Hi Sharon, yes providing the dog is fit to walk the distance, there are three steep incline hills but no steep drop off cliffs as I remember providing you stick to the obvious regular paths, you do have the option to leave Moelwyn Bach which is what I would do next time and just do Moelwyn Mawr or you can do both, when we did this walk the gate was open to walk across the dam edge but if closed you have to walk across below the dam, however the scenery is stunning at the top of Moelwyn Mawr, but do check visibility before going, take care, good luck and all the best from Epic Walks Wales.
