    Weber Go Anywhere charcoal would be my choice. Not only is it a real bbq (charcoal), it's smaller than the gas version and doesn't require cleaning afterwards. Just run it at a high heat and scrape. I also prefer to cook indirectly and cook low and slow

      @CampervanTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mmmmmm low and slow... the BEST way to cook !

    I have the Weber go anywhere charcoal I do indirect cooking then I do direct so that the inside is cooked and then the colour is added. So no burnt offerings or food poisoning. I like the taste of a real fire charcoals. I can fit all the required equipment inside my Weber. Chimney starter, charcoal for 3 bbqs, fire starters, heat proof gloves, tongues, meat thermometer, foil, veg basket (vented to cook smaller items) cloths and lighter, chopping board. Had to saw grill grate so I could adapt but TH-cam has great tutorial on how to go about it. We love it. Ready to go in 15 mins. All packed and kept in the van to use. Thanks for your review and your time and effort put in. Was on your vans name sake beach last week it was glorious no wonder u love it there. But St Agnes and Trevelance cove is my favourite.

      Thank you! Your BBQ setup sounds GREAT! So glad you've seen our favourite beach, we just love the (correctly timed for the tide) walk all the way down to Watergate and then back along the coast path. Very special part of the world 😎

      Agree 100%, Cathryn! Love my charcoal Weber Go Anywhere. Like you did, easy modification to the grill so everything fits in.
      One match with chimney starter, good to go in less than 20 mins.
      Love cooking direct on one side of the grill only and indirectly on the other.
      Nothing beats proper charcoal bbq taste... and toasting marshmallows afterwards 😋

      Such an interesting video - and so well done - thank you. I usually camp alone in my T5, but from time to time my daughter and her two little boys come for a couple of days too. For this reason I have stuff for when alone - and extra for when they come too! However I started with the Cadac Safari Chef 2 which always came with me. Unfortunately my first Cadac was faulty - the ignition refused to ignite and jet burners only worked on roughly half of the CAdac. Having said that Cadac were excellent at replacing it and the new one works brilliantly. I do put water in the bottom to save on cleaning, and do like it - but it does take a fair chunk of space in the back of my T5. (All the initial trouble with the Cadac resulted in me also keeping a jet boil for emergencies.) I did have the pizza stone too but couldn’t get it to work well - which probably says more about my fairly rubbish cooking skills. The Cadac did cook ok, just took a lot of space, and found when the family came too I tended to be cooking in a bit of a relay cos couldn’t get everything on it at once because of its circular shape.
      At this spring NEC Camping show I bought the Ridge Monkey Grilla because it was so neat when packed. Also it was on offer, bundled with the griddle. I liked how neat it folded, and the griddle was a game changer, just being a smooth stainless steel plate. I can now cook for all of us in one session, there’s that useful integrated table, and finally the griddle plate makes it a doddle to clean.
      However when I’m on my own I now use the Ridge Monkey Twin Connect. ( the Connect comes in 2 sizes but I have the two larger ones - barely takes any more space than the small one but more room for the pan). It is tiny - really just a hot ring, and my gas canister just screws onto it. I like that it folds up so very small, that I can connect the two up together so gives me the ability to have two rings on the go at once, and is designed to take the Ridge Monkey pans - it has a little extension piece to clip on that supports the RM pan handle. I leave it in its tiny box when not in use - no more clunking round in the back from the Cadac - and cook on it using my standard Ridge Monkey pans. Just waiting now for the new induction friendly Ridge Monkey pans, due out next year, that will also work on my IKEA induction hob that I use in the van if the weather is awful, and if I’m on hook up!

    The whole point about the Cadac is to use the fat catcher at the bottom (put some water in there which stops it spitting and flames appearing)
    Then the fat would not fall straight on to the flame. Love mine, so versatile!!
    They’re awesome. I have the hp version and a single Coleman gas bottle (rather than the overpriced Cadac ones) lasted a whole week in France between 3 of us cooking bbq lunches/curries, Bolognese etc in the multi purpose lid … plus you can just use the burner for a frying pan for breakfast or to boil a kettle! The pizza stone is awesome too!

    Should always have a meat thermometer for bbq.
    The disposable bbq are charcoal no worse than gas for greenhouse gases as renewable. The aluminium trays are fully recyclable. I don’t see them as any less eco than the others. Gas has the advantage you only burn it while cooking, whereas charcoal you always use too much.

    Happily grilled out and what a sizzling conclusion.
    Wrestling to ignite damp disposables can detract from the simplicity but I cannot deny the logic.
    But one key criteria has been missed out; 'Gadget factor'.
    Maybe its a bloke thing but the all singing stove that can grill, bake and roast in a compact easy clean package is hard to resist.
    So I've gone for the Safari Chef 30 compact and when I've mastered the ultimate gadget (California) I may get round to baking bread and roasting a chicken.
    Its also our back up when the Gaz bottle runs out and the unit cost of gas in the 220g cylinders is 40% cheaper than the 907.
    Other interesting BBQs, include the Cobb and Lotus fan assisted grill and may be worth a look if you are inspired to extend your survey.
    Thanks for an enjoyable hour and being introduced to the Ridge Monkey; neat design.

    Should have had a weighting 😉. We were impressed with the RM but love our SC2 and the RM looks an absolute faff. Given we have the HP/LP version of the SC2 we upped your score for fuel to a 3 and of course discounted the non eco version totally meaning our SC2 won in reality - happy days 😂

    I like the idea of the Ridge Monkey, it folds nice and small, and can be connected to a Gaz bottle (we always travel with 2 anyway). Also like that it might be used with charcoal / as a fire pit, but with that gauge of steel how long before it buckles with the heat? Overall it just looks a bit fragile and faffy to wash up. Currently we have the Campingaz Party Grill 400 which is almost a copy of the Cadac. It’s so easy to use (BBQ, flat plate, griddle plate, direct burner, wok), plus we bought a Cadac 33cm pizza stone which works well. It’s also a doddle to clean. But still, if the RM can really be used with Charcoal and wood …. tempted !

    • @CampervanTime
      @CampervanTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well i was a bit worried about that when using it as a fire pit but it held up really well. I suspect if you used it a lot it might distort but that said they’d be easy to bend back too. It’s the size that has won us over when packed up 👍

    Don't think the lid for cadac is suitable for using as a pan. In fact I'm sure it isn't. It would ruin the lid.
    When you opened the Ridge monkey. I thought that's a winner.. Because its so compact. But the negative thing is no lid.
    I think meat is cooked throughout better with a lid.
    So I would choose the cadac because its more compact than webber

      Thanks for watching. I have just double checked on the Cadac website and it does state 'enamelled Dome Lid which doubles as a pot for cooking' although we haven't used it that way ourselves. They are all a bit of a trade off between each other really we think.

    The use for the lid is to help control the cooking process. If it flares you put the lid on. The fat is supposed to hit the burners, these create the smoke that flavours the meat. You Must buy a thermometer to ensure the food is cooked. I'm sorry to say that this mega test is bogus. Your not comparing like with like. I suggest you do a little reading and watch other you tubers with more experience. You could steer people inappropriately to the wrong BBQ .

    Your videos should come with a wallet health warning! 😂. Another item purchased from your reviews. The ridge monkey currently £139 on Amazon (lowest price for 30 days it tells me). A nebula, your top ten list (8 of them) and now this… 🤣🤣. I went for the ridge monkey for size and the fact you can do both the gas and charcoal/wood. I’ve also bought the hot plate that goes with it so I can do my breakfast in it and it should also treble up as a log burner to keep us warm in the evening.
