🇨🇦 Interesting how different people have slightly different ways to pan gold. Also how the concentrates are different from location to location. The garnets here on the North Saskatchewan River are pretty much pink sand and the gold closer to Edmonton is dust and the closer to the mountains you get the bigger the gold gets. Makes sense I guess. The one indicator here for panning for gold is black sand called magnetite. It is basically iron flakes. Super fun to play with using a magnet. 🤪😁 Love those faceted garnets. I hope to go somewhere someday where I can pan for garnets. I also find the suction tube idea intriguing. I may have to try that.

I had tried panning once before while down in Australia.
We were at a famous former gold mining town in Victoria called Walhalla.
We only tried for a few minutes and the guide said that they needed more rain to wash some gold down the creek for us to really have a hope of finding much.
It was fun and my sister did find a flake, ooohwhoo!

Simon, if you ever make it out to the states, and California for that matter, give me a shout. Ill bring you out to 'gold country' where we had our huge gold rush in the 1850s. Theres still tons of gold here! I pan for it, detect for it and sometimes use sluice and/or highbankers. You'd have a blast!!!!

They were experienced planners and each found a dozen flakes or so. Tiny yes but fun. I suppose I should get me self a pan. Lots of quarts and mica as well in my area. And as always, you’ve inspired me. So Kind Thanks Simon to you and your mates! Gold in your hand by sifting the sand! Safe Travels and Joy in you Journeys! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
