- Founded by Julius Caesar in 50BC, Cividale del Friuli was formerly an important regional power, today Cividale is a quiet, small Italian town near the border with Slovenia on the Natisone River.
In 568 the city was the first major centre occupied by the Lombard invasion of Italy. It was chosen as the first capital of the newly founded Lombard Kingdom.
One of the major sights of Cividale is the Devils Bridge (Ponte de Daivolo), built in the 15thc and rebuilt in 1918.
