Why the first thing that is blamed are the players. A coach can mess up any team and get away until the gm figures that out. But the gm doesn’t own a mirror to understand what he has done and not done to screw up his own roster and what his coach and staff are making their own mess and then blame the players. It’s called bad management not holding themselves accountable and responsible. That points to the lack of their leadership skills. A real leader doesn’t blame others.

If the Trouba situation over the summer really upset some of his teammates, then something is very wrong. Put an average NHL defenseman in his place against FLA and the Rangers probably make it to the Cup Final. Did they think Drury was not going to make an effort to move him? How the heck is no one talking about Mika Zibanejad??? As of today the dude is -14. He has the worst plus minus on the team. It's almost as if every time he's on the ice something bad happens. He had a good season last season but absolutely disappeared in the playoffs. He is absolutely not contributing to the team and he hasn't since regular season last season.
“Too sensitive”. If that’s the case, it’s already over. Remember when this team is at its best, we still aren’t good enough to beat teams like Florida. Makes no sense to continue on like this. Prepare for the future
The team has to much drama hanging over it's head. You have the Trouba blocking a trade at the NHL draft, Barclay Goodrow being traded and how he was unaware of anything happening. You have Igor rejecting an 11mil dollar contract right before the season started, Mika crying to the press about not getting enough ice time, Drury league wide memo saying he is open for business...etc it just one thing after another with this team. By no means do I believe Laviolette should get fired, this to me frankly is more on Drury mishandling and the players. There is a big drama cloud over this team, you can feel it just by watching the postgame reactions, so imagine how it must be if your in the lockeroom. And to be fair, I disagree with Mollie saying this has happened drastically. To me their were a lot of warning signs/red flags that what the Rangers have been doing the past few years was eventually going to implode. We'll, I think this is it and I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. If Rangers lose to the Penguins, I think tensions will rise, however if they lose to Chicago, then I would not be surprised if things really goes off the rails and you start to see heads roll.
Rangers play with no structure, no grit and believe that only finesse is the key to winning. The key elements are missing. Zibanejad is currently the worse player on the team at -14. Move him or buy him out. He's contributing nothing.
Mollie moved on from Rempe too quickly. That should've been discussed more. Rempe is clearly the most ferocious player we have and our softness is the biggest issue we're facing (again). We need to get tough. Matt Rempe should be playing in every game and getting regular minutes. He has a good, noticeable impact every time he plays.
Both Larry and Brian make the main points at around 14:15 onwards. The team is too sensitive; absolutely. I do wish that NTC's and NMC's were removed because to me it says 'I'm comfortable here' but with Goodrow, like Larry says, it's part of pro sports - you can be traded and you're going to be on the block when your level of play doesn't match your contract. Brians point about playing better - what I do not understand is the Rangers have had so many poor starts, giving up early goals, defensive breakdowns etc. So why are they coming out and playing the exact same every game?! Laviolette is the last person I blame in this situation but either they don't listen to him or he's insistent that they continue to play in the same way. Just go back to basics, start a game with solid defense, contain the opposition and bring back that solidity. Build some confidence back in to the team because from that the offensive confidence will come back too when you're not chasing a 2-0 deficit after the first 5-10 minutes. When things aren't going well, stop repeating and stop putting yourself in those poor positions. As the adage goes; if you don't change anything, don't expect a different outcome.
Trouba is not a leader. Never has been. He pulled this stuff in Winnipeg. Look at where Winnipeg is now. They got rid of all their locker room problems and it paid off. In my opinion the mini rebuild was a huge mistake and jeopardized the development of the younger Rangers players.
Larry, Brian, Molly: Can you PLEASE explain to me why in the world did the NYR give Mika a NMC. And can you speak on how the NYR could possibly move him given the NMC? Why do the NYR give away NMC to the wrong players?
I really enjoy Boyles input, and I agree the Rangers seem to be taking the business side of things to personally. But isn’t what Boyle outlined with Yzerman exactly what the Rangers Players are mad about? Yeah, Boyle got a call one day that he had been traded, but a month before Yzerman sat him down and explained why that might be coming. So in goodrows exit interview did Drury say “I have to look at options to move you this summer” or did he shake his hand and say “see you at camp in September!”?
It's time to make bold moves. This team is talented but desperately needs to be retooled into a Stanley Cup contender and it can be. Here are the bold moves hire Messier as team President and hire Joel Quenneville as coach. With these two hockey minds in the fold they can bring in the right pieces to make a run this season and beyond.
no need for a tear down. I think we're in our 92-93 moment. The season after Messier first season and the season before the cup. They fired the coach and hired Keenan. This time around it's time to hire a similar coach to Keenan and that's Joel Quenneville but do it now
@@domenicocappello9168 They are in a 92 93 moment with one big difference.....this team has missed the window and is old, slow and washed up. And they are Charmin soft as well.
Great job everyone.... LB, MW and BB... lots of great insight and while I respect Elliot F. on TSN the 3 of you are not cocky as he is. As a former player and coach a lot of what was mentioned I see as well. There is something wrong in the locker room (dressing room)... Trouba is a Captain without much of a ship. Not the best situation knowing for whatever reasons (dollars) your employer does not want you. How do you lead? It also looks like the guys are not buying into the messaging. Whether it is the coach or the captain... something has to change. Most of our veterans are having less than pedestrian seasons esp. of late... the kids are doing their best to earn ice time. Our bottom 3 and maybe 6 at times is our best minus Panarin. Miller is playing very very soft, slow hockey- looks like he is going through the motions. Mika... on /off... looks like his DJ-ing is taking up his thoughts. Who knows... but something is very very wrong. Moving a guy like Kreider would send the wrong message... it would be more like..."we are blowing this up again"...
About the rangers D,especially K'andre and Trouba: play the puck ,you're out a luck. Play the man, that's the plan. This team could be so much more physical with this mantra. The question that sticks out to me is: does troubla have NHL level skating ability. When asked about off season he mentioned his gallery opening and his wife's profession. Obviously the rangers were not his priority in the off season. Rangers fans are furious with him for not getting quicker in the first 2 strides and working on his sub NHL skating ability. He continues to get skated around like a fence post. I would trade him for a bag of pucks and play Mancini.
Until the coach and his staff decide to play defense first and drury opens his eyes to see what his coach is not doing, they both will blame the players. So trade the team and then let Dolan fire them.
Brian, what are the players themselves saying? What’s the sentiment inside the locker room? I cannot be that the players forgot how to play to their best level together…
Kreider/ Mika / Trouba / Miller / Vesey are at the core of the problem in my opinion. All breaking the cap, but never play up to their full potential in the regular season and especially in the playoffs. These players do not have the drive and hunger to win a cup. They represent a lazy culture...The antithesis of a M. Tkachuk. LaFreniere and Kakko not becoming true number 1 or 2 overalls has also hurt this team. Plus Chytil not being able to stay healthy. Lindgren and Fox look nothing like they once did.
Drury has not fixed anything during his tenure, the core of this team is a bunch of underachieving quitters, nice try blaming Gallant last time. Hopefully Drury's replacement will clean up his mess.
I’m a Wolfpack season ticket holder, I can so how demoralizing being sent down is for these guys, ya Rempe skates like a baby giraffe but as you stated he brings an energy to the game, and Vito Mancini deserves to be up especially with the way our defense is playing, Hell send Miller down
Rempe gets the crowd going which gets the team going. He brings energy, fire and brimstone to the line-up. He lays big hits and puts fear into the enemy. We desperately need that right now. We aren't getting that from most of the other guys, so why wouldn't you want to bring that in?
Rempe, with proper tutelage and not just putting him into positions where he has to fight, can be a serviceable hockey player. Right now the Rangers are doing him a disservice.
If they don't get some big strong aggressive defenseman. They go no where but down. And Igor wont stay. They also need bif aggressive fowards that check on both ends. And an agitator. Good luck getting all that with nothing but ballerinas to trade with.
There are four Rangers with full no trade contracts….. Panarin, Fox, Mika, and Trochek. Next season Trochek’s is modified. So they can trade every other player….. if they want to. The problem is whether it’s to dump salary or actually improve the team. On paper they are a better team than last season……on the ice they aren’t even close. Maybe since the defense is a glaring problem they should look at Phil Housley’s coaching. Maybe underperforming players should get scratched regardless of their name or salary instead of sending out memos declaring players are available, knowing full well that it will be leaked, in hopes that will somehow motivate players to play better. I think Drury has created more problems than he’s fixed.
This core group needs a scenery change and the fans need new fresh faces who are hungry to win a cup. This group has run it's course and the time has come to move on from them. The bigger picture is that this Star group has underachieved in the playoffs the last 3 seasons and are eating up the cap. This is when major trades happen, the character and drive is not there with this group. Changing the core group is the only thing that will fix this long term, otherwise it's just going to be a band aid. This group will no doubt fail early in the playoffs. This is how this team played the last 3 playoffs when they fell apart...This isn't new. They just stopped playing now, instead of in the playoffs. Question: After what we are seeing with this core group. Does anyone think this core group is going to be any different this playoffs than the last 3 years ? NO ! Nothing to figure out here, it's time to blow this core group up period. When someone shows you who they are, believe them !
I would like to point out that Boyle explained how he appreciated the conversion and the heads up as a point about the Goodrow situation which is exactly the opposite of what happened and why the room is upset
@@Justme77400 you are right they are not winning a cup so they should keep ineffective players like Mika or Kreider and just say oh well we suck lets not improve? Give me a break
In the words of the first Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach John McKay after he was asked by a reporter “John, what do you think of your team’s execution”? John’s response “I’m all for it”.
I don't think the Rangers make much of an effort to play in front of Igor. After Igor turned down the Rangers offer, it is apparent that Igor is all about Igor. Why block a shot for him?
Just starting to listen. The girl who kicked off the last session should do the kickoffs she brings a lot of energy to the call. Molly I love your content just doesn't get me going to start the call though
This team has stopped competing, the question is are they not playing for Drury or Laviolette? Laviolette clearly has no answers, he complains about a lack of grit, bring some grit up from Hartford, he doesn't. They don't forecheck, they over pass the puck, the system he wants them to play is way to passive. Drury is a complete disaster, he hasn't made one single good move as GM. Dolan needs to fire both of them, give the bench to Peca and hire Messier as the GM.
They should bust the room up and move what they can of the heavy contracts(if drury can move them!) I’d be weary to get a goalie under a huge contract too bc it seems like he might not care to be here! Igor seems like he be fine anywhere gets get the couple million more that he declined from New York! 11$ million !!! Bottom line is this team doesn’t have what it takes to win a cup even when they are playing there absolute best. Fox is not a 1A Stanley cup winning defenseman! The lineup is not tough enough up and down. They don’t have it anyway! They just don’t and I love the boys..Trouba needs to go too I appreciate the fight and he played good against Montreal but he is a 3rd pair dman right now
@@humanbeing2420 Ridiculous? After Messier retired he spent a lot of time with Glen Sather learning the ins & outs of being a GM. It was a GM internship if you will. You didn't know that? Maybe you think Messier is stupid & doesn't have those skills or didn't learn them on his internship. Well, you would be wrong & that would be ridiculous!
bad basic fundamentals run through the whole team: stick check and guy spun around and got free, wrong side of the puck hence chasing all night long, keep looking to pass they're all covered so skate with it and bite the bullet instead of forcing a pass. Just like you can have the best play called in football, if you can't or miss a tackle it blows up everything. Forget about system, structure, or game plan, get the basic down first. Not sure what they practice or what coaches emphasize, but these basic flaws are happening in every game.
agreed with Brooksie 100%, tell me if you're against me. You're IN or OUT, players are in fetal position. Goodrow's situation was just business nothing personal, PLEASE.
I wished I disagreed with you but I don’t .. no way this RFA ( Miller ) gets 6 years at $ 5.5 - 6 million Bigger problem is paying Shesterkin 8 years at $ 13 million Management has lost control it’s leadership and salary cap management . If Drury can’t make the team play for each other then it’s Time to retool & rebuild … … may take as many as 3-4 years ! Childish ! Very disappointing !
Larry, thanks for leaking the Trouba trade last year. You got to beat your chest because you scooped the trade and we got to keep that bum. Good work...
Kreider is not even in the same universe as Syd. If I can trade Kreider and pickup assets I'm doing it and I'm not stopping there. This team needs major changes the roster has run its course.
I'm only firing Laviolette for Quenneville. It's not his fault but the team is broken . Needs to be retooled and a new vision. This current team is not a Stanley Cup contender. Laviolette also sounds defeated in his press conferences. I would like to see a little more fight in his voice
@@thedarkhorse100last season is ancient history. Drury made zero impactful moves to improve the defense and the team overall. The players have given up on the coach like a bunch of children. All the veterans with the exception of Quick need to be traded. It’s time to rebuild and get better.
Mika has had a bad 3 years and never shows up in the Playoffs. He is breaking the cap .Trade him ! Kreider gets paid too much to be just a good PK player and PP player who shows up once in a while and hardly ever in the Playoffs and he's breaking the cap. Trouba, Miller and Vesey should be traded. Chytil can't stay healthy, trade him now while he's still worth something in return, same with Kakko. Trade Kakko now, while other teams might still think he will look like a number 2 overall one day. Explore what they can get in return for number 1 overall LaFreniere, who is not a franchise player or star. Lindgren has lost his game. Fox has not looked good, since his Norris winning year, but should have a serious talk with Drury. Keep Panarin and Trocheck for now, they might still have good seasons. Play Rempe every game and fire Lavi if this team still does not respond to changing the core with major trades. His best coaching days might be behind him. I don't understand why he doesn't play Rempe and sends him down. Why doesn't he bench or make MIka a healthy scratch ? Same with Miller.
Agree with Larry the players are too sensitive but I think part of that is the way they get treated by this “first class organ-eye-zation” that spoils them. Good on them they told Goodrow 15 mins before. He should feel lucky he didnt find out on social media
Not sure why anyone is surprised by this. Almost same team as last year, and the "pretty" hockey is not working and will NOT work in playoffs. They don't go north/south enough. The defense is terrible. Trouba and Miller should go.
The Rangers need to go back to basics put the lines back together make Mika’s line the 4 line give the guys that showed up more ice time bring Mancini and Rempe back sit Miller,Lingren or Trouba and stop this mess Lav needs to old people accountable for their actions it’s very simple defense first finish your checks make people paid if they go near our goalie jez these guys make millions and their feelings are hurt give me a break this team has become the laughing stock of the league a year after winning the president trophy so they need to get their big boys pants on and start playing like a New York Rangers
The team needs a player who sparks or carries emotion in his play. Could be a winger or defenseman. Sean Avery 2.0. A defenseman is needed as well that fits in well to the 1-3-1 scheme that Lavi likes to play. Very good podcast!

Drury has been a Winner his whole life. The fault lies with the players, they need to Man Up or they will be moving elsewhere.
Larry Brooks is on point.
do you think that Igor's contract issue, and the fact that he turned down being the highest paid goalie in hockey already, is affecting the team?
The players should be embarrassed. The problem starts with the captain, he needs to go ASAP
I think they need to tear it down and build properly this time.
no need for a tear down. I think we're in our 92-93 moment. The season after Messier first season and the season before the cup. They fired the coach and hired Keenan. This time around it's time to hire a similar coach to Keenan and that's Joel Quenneville but do it now
@@domenicocappello9168
They are in a 92 93 moment with one big difference.....this team has missed the window and is old, slow and washed up. And they are Charmin soft as well.
I agree. The core needs to be broken up. But I want someone other than Drury making the calls
@@domenicocappello9168
Yeah you are right about Dreary Drury.
Rangers are soft and sensitive plain and simple.
For a NY team its hard to imagine it being "too sensitive", but then not everyone is from NY. They need a big voice with no filter in the locker room.
I think the sensitivity starts with Mika/Kreids.Bread is confident, always laughing.
Curious how much different was the mindset of the 2013-2015 team Boyle was on compared to what Boyle believes is this teams mindset.
Until the coach and his staff decide to play defense first and drury opens his eyes to see what his coach is not doing, they both will blame the players. So trade the team and then let Dolan fire them.
I think it's time to go back to the no quit in New York mantra because it takes everyone just isn't doing it
Brian, what are the players themselves saying? What’s the sentiment inside the locker room? I cannot be that the players forgot how to play to their best level together…
They don’t have a McDavid, Dressidal, Matthew’s,Tkchuck, O’Vevchkin, Hughes,. We have old gutsy
NYP 😎 LGR!! 💙💪
Drury has not fixed anything during his tenure, the core of this team is a bunch of underachieving quitters, nice try blaming Gallant last time. Hopefully Drury's replacement will clean up his mess.
Boyle and Molly use lots of words to say NOTHING. Call a spade a spade.
Desperation is real when you think Rempe will be a valuable add to the lineup....
Rempe is not NHL ready
@@thedarkhorse100 How about trade Lindgren who is by far the worst D on the team and give Mancini his spot.
What happened to Mika??
He's washed up, physically unable or has some other issues that need to be worked out. He does look washed up though.
He spends his summers DJing instead of working on conditioning and hockey skills
The ship be sinking.
Larry said, Kreider is not the guy I’d be looking to move. Okay, who is/are the guys you’d be looking to move?
I would like to point out that Boyle explained how he appreciated the conversion and the heads up as a point about the Goodrow situation which is exactly the opposite of what happened and why the room is upset
A Kreider trade will go over like the Zuccarello trade with the fans, they're gonna be pissed.
I they trade Kreider and win a cup you still going to be pissed I woudlnt. I root for the logo on the front not individual players
LOL. This team isn’t close to winning a Cup.
I wouldn't unless they get fleeced in the trade.
Cup? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
SO WRONG about Barclay! Leaders cannot be disrespected. We miss Goodrow BADLY!
I don't think the Rangers make much of an effort to play in front of Igor. After Igor turned down the Rangers offer, it is apparent that Igor is all about Igor. Why block a shot for him?
Isn’t Phil Housley the defensive coach. Maybe hire a new AC. Less drastic, but can wake up the defense.
Just starting to listen. The girl who kicked off the last session should do the kickoffs she brings a lot of energy to the call. Molly I love your content just doesn't get me going to start the call though
The other girl was hotter?
Get a LD and take Mika off PP1.
They just don’t and I love the boys..Trouba needs to go too I appreciate the fight and he played good against Montreal but he is a 3rd pair dman right now
Fox overrated! Trouba is done ✅ Mika mental issues! Igore is a fugazi.. miller to soft .. don't blame the coach the players need to be accountable..
It may sound absurd but Dolan needs to approach Messier to be GM if he wants the job. Then we have leadership at the top & go from there.
We need Mess and Q!
@@goaliecoachmike Totally!!
That's ridiculous. Messier has no GM experience and there's no reason to think his on-ice skills 30 years ago mean he'll be any good at it.
@@humanbeing2420 Ridiculous? After Messier retired he spent a lot of time with Glen Sather learning the ins & outs of being a GM. It was a GM internship if you will. You didn't know that? Being a good GM has a lot to do with hockey intelligence, people management skills, player evaluation & team construction, & negotiating skills. Maybe you think Messier is stupid & doesn't have those skills or didn't learn them on his internship. Well, you would be wrong & that would be ridiculous!
Your right it is absurd. This team does not need a first time GM. You see how well it's worked with Drury.
Boyle is awesome and Mollie asks great questions...and she is hotttt
Play rempe !
Give the kid 10 games in a row . So done with Brodzinski , vesey or anybody else playing over him on the 4 th line right wing .
Molly 👋 👋 👋
Move 8 and 93 immediatley. Bring up the kids and move on. 20 needs to stay, at least until the deadline.
bad basic fundamentals run through the whole team: stick check and guy spun around and got free, wrong side of the puck hence chasing all night long, keep looking to pass they're all covered so skate with it and bite the bullet instead of forcing a pass. Just like you can have the best play called in football, if you can't or miss a tackle it blows up everything. Forget about system, structure, or game plan, get the basic down first. Not sure what they practice or what coaches emphasize, but these basic flaws are happening in every game.
Could it be Igor’s contract….looking out for himself instead of the team?
agreed with Brooksie 100%, tell me if you're against me. You're IN or OUT, players are in fetal position. Goodrow's situation was just business nothing personal, PLEASE.
I wished I disagreed with you but I don’t .. no way this RFA ( Miller ) gets 6 years at $ 5.5 - 6 million
Bigger problem is paying Shesterkin 8 years at $ 13 million
Management has lost control it’s leadership and salary cap management .
If Drury can’t make the team play for each other then it’s
Time to retool & rebuild … … may take as many as 3-4 years !
Childish ! Very disappointing !
Larry, thanks for leaking the Trouba trade last year. You got to beat your chest because you scooped the trade and we got to keep that bum. Good work...
Larry's job is to report news. That's why the Post pays him. If he has a scoop and sits on it and his editors find out, he suffers.
Are they having all these talks in the Panthers organization ?, Krieder should be a Ranger for life as Syd is to Pittsburgh
Kreider is not even in the same universe as Syd. If I can trade Kreider and pickup assets I'm doing it and I'm not stopping there. This team needs major changes the roster has run its course.
This type of sentimentality sinks teams. He needs to be traded so the Rangers can begin to restock and retool.
Everyone is screaming FIRE, we’re you saying this last year ?
I'm only firing Laviolette for Quenneville.
It's not his fault but the team is broken . Needs to be retooled and a new vision. This current team is not a Stanley Cup contender. Laviolette also sounds defeated in his press conferences. I would like to see a little more fight in his voice
@@thedarkhorse100last season is ancient history. Drury made zero impactful moves to improve the defense and the team overall. The players have given up on the coach like a bunch of children. All the veterans with the exception of Quick need to be traded. It’s time to rebuild and get better.
Laviolette should stay but Drury must go ! Like yesterday. The Trouba situation is embarassing.
Stand pat ...
Stop harassing Mollie. Of course she smiles, she is the host. Host smile to welcome viewers on Earth 1.
The team needs a player who sparks or carries emotion in his play. Could be a winger or defenseman. Sean Avery 2.0. A defenseman is needed as well that fits in well to the 1-3-1 scheme that Lavi likes to play. Very good podcast!
Don’t you guys realize that we are fans and we are frustrated with this garbage, and you guys are sitting up there right about walking on eggshells speaking bull crap speak your peace. The ranges suck. We all know it changes need to be made.
We’ll take Kreider and Trochek off your hands in Philly
Ok. Two 1st round picks and prospects.
