I really love your video explanations! Very clear and simple. You practically saved me on a project for work. I have little to no experience with SSIS. Thank you sir!

Thank you, I always wanted to understand the internals as I would always end up using alternative options such as a SQL join query within the Source, but I always knew understanding lookup is essential for set based load process.

Sounds like this look up transformation video is by order of Peaky fooocking Blinders.

There is a mistake in the video. Data from reference table/lookup table will be loaded in the cache not from source. Kindly check this and confirm.

Can you direct me to the part of the video you are referring to? As I talk about different cache modes, you might be referring to where I talk about no cache, if you have a look 4:42 in the video onwards this shows the differences between the cache modes.

@@BeardedDevData Check the slides 5:00 onwards. Full Cache: will load all the data from source into the cache. Please check and correct.

That is correct, the data will be loaded from source in to cache. “In full cache mode, the reference dataset is loaded into cache before the Lookup transformation runs.” - Microsoft Docs Online, I’m not sure what you are saying is incorrect?

@@BeardedDevData In every case data will be loaded from reference/lookup table into cache not from source.

I think you’re misunderstanding, source refers to the source of the reference table. In other words, reference table is loaded from where it resides (source) in to cache and then the data in cache is used to perform the lookup. If there is no source you have no reference table.
