- January 24 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, delivers the twenty-seventh in a series of speeches titled “The Scheme,” exposing the machinations by right-wing donor interests to capture the Supreme Court and achieve through the Court what they cannot through the elected branches of government.
Whitehouse discusses Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, a case pending before the Supreme Court that could overturn Chevron deference. That doctrine, a cornerstone of administrative law for nearly 40 years, grants agencies the flexibility they need to issue regulations that protect Americans’ health and safety. Whitehouse details how Loper is the product of a larger, decades-long effort by pro-corporate interests to eviscerate the federal government’s regulatory apparatus, to the detriment of the American people.
I really respect Sheldon Whitehouse. We'd be so much better off if we had a lot more people like this in government, and a lot fewer grifting idiots, dimbulb boeberts and lamebrain liars.

But also the functioning government is easily the most useful thing and the easiest to justify. They do all the stuff that is needed to run a country while the chamber is mostly just ego driven jerks arguing over nothing and the executive branch is a nest of corruption and "special interests". Really it is the impressive administrative state of the US that has kept it standing through the past few decades despite so many stupid decisions and dysfunctional petty arguments.
Thank God we ain't got more people like him the Democratic parties nothing but grifters and clowns that use their supporters because their supporters and bright enough to realize it..

Here we are: A brilliant Senator with tons of knowledge, integrity, and patriotism, speaking eloquently about a MAJOR, MAJOR issue that will affect ALL of us for the benefit of the few on the one hand, and an ignorant narcissist, babbling lies, bullshit, and treason on the other hand. And this is in the same country, the same century and the same week! What have we become, when we heed the latter? Thanks, Senator Whitehouse, for your great work and efforts to stop us from drowning in the cesspool on November 2024.
If you are curious about where all these schemes germinated and why, I highly recommend that you read a well written & captivating book by Prof. Nancy MacLean, called "Democracy in Chains," and you'd be enlightened and appalled, though not necessarily in this order.
This must be the greatest opportunatey ever, that the USA has ever had of ridding itself of these leaches and parasites and unnecessary middlemen, the fire has been built, but it needs to be lit! The current AG needs an invitation to investigate "Anything" before he will even consider looking at it, I think this stuff is just way too big for Him to handle!

@@mk1stWell, that is the definition of projection. They make the accusations, because they know it's possible. They know it's possible, because they are doing it. Hence, their actual evidence is that they do it, so the other side must do it, too! They don't state it that way, but they don't have anything else that could stand as evidence, so I'm left to assume their reasons for "believing" (if that's really what it is) the lefties are doing conspiracies, is that they (the right wing billionaires) are doing them so it must be everywhere. The trouble for them is they took things far enough that concrete evidence is massively more exposed now than ever before of their own actions, so all they can do is try to muddy the waters as much as possible to make everyone think they shouldn't be punished since "everyone is doing it." What's sad about this, is the people in a certain echo-chamber of news are only going to ever really hear their side, and that they shouldn't listen to the other side.

I think this scheme started about 40+ years ago with the Powell memo. The day Nixon of all people lol created the EPA, some endangered species act, and OSHA too I believe, the right wing, conservative elites and corporate owners got to work planning on how to deregulate everything holding them accountable for their endless use and destruction of our land, water, and air.
That the senate sits there listening to Senator Whitehouse and still doesn't act to stop this outrageous misuse of our government just boggles my mind. I read a comment by someone yesterday who said in his country giving money to politicians was called corruption while in America it's called being a lobbyist. I've been watching since Vietnam and Watergate our government be pushed farther and farther to the right while the people move to the left and now we've actually got a hijacked Supreme Court and an insane authoritarian trying to steal the presidency too, and if someone, anyone with power doesn't act soon, we'll actually lose our democracy. I remember dead fish floating all in the Potomac river in our nation's capital. I remember being in cedar rapids Iowa and seeing the suds flowing down the river in the middle of town and having to put my hand over my nose when getting within a few blocks of a factory because it literally hurt to breath. Now it is a beautiful city because of the clean air act. Los Angeles they said was like smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day. We cannot go back. If these corporations get their way it will be more akin to the early days when children worked 12 hour days in these factories. They are already trying to pass laws allowing minors to work full time. They stole these supreme court seats with mitch giving them the keys. People not voting and others being brainwashed by the republican party believing regulations are bad, unions are bad and we should give our money to the rich so they can bless us with jobs. These polticalized churches are blasphemy. Americans get out and fight. Senator Whitehouse is well equipped to lead the way. Yes, he's a national treasure and what is right with our government. Why is this information not submitted to the Supreme Court in the form of an amicus brief asking the court to throw out the case and/or for the compromised justices to recuse themselves? Such a brief should name names.
Of course the brief wouldn't be accepted by SCOTUS, but then the non-acceptance would become public information.

Senator Whitehouse, thank you for your pursuit of the facts. When and how will this situation be rectified? It is hurting us in so many ways already, the EPA has been eroded, Roe has been overturned. Why not appoint more justices to the bench to balance it? Why are people who lied to congress during their hearings being able to continue on the bench? It doesn't make sense. Everyone is accountable to the constitution, and the supreme court has to be corrected one way or another NOW!
