      They were either:
      1: trying to click the like button but they don’t have arms so instead they tried clicking it with their nose but the battery ran out so now they don’t know if they clicked the like button or not.

    Hi Duncan, your whole channel is a brilliant resource for learning how to make pop-ups, so thank you.
    If you are able, I am really struggling to make asymmetrical M-fold pop-ups work, as per fig 10.3 on page 58 of your excellent book, so any help would be appreciated - specifically, the gluing positions of the tabs so that the page lies flat when closed and holds the shape designed. Thank you.

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Start by making an Asymmetrical V-Fold pop-up piece (Page 38 in the book, Tutorial 4). At 5.30 in the video there is an explanation of how to work out where the two central tabs will glue down - mark the sticking places on the base but don't stick the piece down yet. Now on each side of the piece follow steps 5 to 9 (Page 57 in the book) to create the folds for the M-Fold. Finally the gluing - follow steps 12, 13, 14, 15 from pages 56/57 of the book.

    Symmetrical m-fold, no problemo. Attempting an asymmetrical m-fold? 😳🤦‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can break it down into its components - Make an asymmetrical V-Fold, then build two more into the gullies, one on each side.

    • @lisam9233
      @lisam9233 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pop-Up Channel Thanks for that tip! I built the central asym v fold, then built 2 others into each of the gullies created by the previous folds. It worked, tho not without a lot of trial and error. I had been trying to create the structure out of one piece of card, like the sym m fold... which obviously doesn't work since angles all need to be reversed. For some reason, this lesson really blew my mind!

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      glad it worked. Quite often you can make a structure out of several pieces and then take it apart in as few pieces as possible - surely some asymmetric V-Folds could be made out of one piece of card.

    Could you make a video showing how to make person on top of a bird or tell me which fold I should use to do that?

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The M-Fold (Tutorial 19) or the Floating Plane (tutorial12) are both good starting points for making pop-up birds. You can build onto them using the methods explained in Tutorials 7 and 8.. Remember the basic pop-up shape can be built up by adding extra bigger flat pieces of card for things like wings. Also the person and the bird may be made out of one piece with small extra pieces added and then illustrations enhancing the design. You need to start by finding a pop-up shape that you think could be adapted to what you want to make - and then refine it. Remember also that the base sheet may be used lying horizontal with the pop-up rising from it - or it might be good in this case to use the base sheet as a vertical background with the pop-up coming forward from it. You will need to experiment and probably make at least a couple of trial attempts. Good luck with your design.

    Hi Duncan, Thank you again for your pop-up channel
    I want to ask you a question about adapted M fold that is shown in your book, on page 25...
    Can you tell me something about the measures of the 2 angle on the page and the 4 angles on the pop-up? I'm trying to undestand how it is modified but it is difficult for me to know it only watching the picture....
    Thank you!

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thank you for your enthusiastic messages. I'm sorry to say the new book will not be out soon as my plans got disrupted. As for the image on page 25 I'll try and find the little practice book that has that pop-up in it so that I can check the angles - meanwhile I think the design is based on the variation 10.1 on page 58 - but the pop-up on page 25 is placed on the page so that the central crease appears as a valley fold (going away from you) and the central crease on the pop-up on page 58 is a mountain fold (coming towards you). I will try and find the pop-up model to check the angles but I expect that if you experiment with the mechanism 10.1 you can probably create your own version.

    • @peggypeggyla8561
      @peggypeggyla8561 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for replying ... and so quickly too!
      I'm sad to read this about your new book but I will wait all the time it needs to be complete.
      Actually watching page 25 I was thinking about an M-fold with the central crease as valley fold but I believed that it was an error to think so because all M-fold I see are built starting from an acute angle V fold that leads to a mountain fold on the central crease...
      Believing that this was not correct I didn't try to make one... ehehe sometimes when I study I have a quite strict brain!
      So I'm glad to hear your explanation... I infer that on page 25 there is a M-fold based on an Obtuse angle V fold!
      I will try to make my own version as you suggest me
      Thank you!

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right, the design is based on an Obtuse Angle V-Fold - You might find it useful to look at Tutorial 34 at 21.57, this explains how to cut away part of the V-Fold to make an "arch".
