    When you have a predominantly unconverted congregation who at one point repeated a "Lord I'm a sinner..." "prayer" and your church uses carnal means to lure people in (coffee & donuts, emotionally manipulative music, trendy decor, "warm up jokes" to get the crowd in the "mood" prior to getting to the Word of God, etc, etc) that church will keep growing... But for all the wrong reasons.

    What is most good for us - the Word of God - is also what is good for the whole world. The world needs us to be the light that we are and we need His Word to keep shining as lights. It may not look that impactful in the surface but that is where we put faith in God working both in each of us and in the affairs of the world to accomplish His will. His way, not ours. 🙏🏼

    Vast majority of people feel better when there are more people in churches and new faces are constantly coming in. It makes them feel as if something good is happening (especially when they see more of the younger generation coming in). However, they don't realize its the carnal means that lure people in and when you use carnal means to attract people you're going to attract carnal people, and you'll have to continue using greater carnal means to keep them in church. If you're wise enough you'll know that they're not there for God and His Word; they're there for the coffee and donuts, emotionally manipulative music, jokes and fun, a trendy crowd and basically anything that makes THEM feel good... Many people reason along the lines of "as long as the churches are full and people are decent and they try to come every Sunday is all that matters. After all that is the goal isn't it? For churches to be full and people to be decent and at least try to come to church?" Take away all the carnal means and simply preach the whole counsel of God and channel all attention on Jesus Christ and see how many people stick around then. Those will be the truly born-again, faithful converts who desire nothing more than to hear and obey our God and Lord Jesus Christ.

    Our head pastor goes through the Bible books verse by verse. It is uplifting or chastising as the text indicates. However, when the junior pastor has to step in for anything, it is awful! Instead of in context verses, we get a "subject sermon" with out of context verses and so many of them with no chance to double check the actual context that your brain shuts down in self preservation. But, worse is that when he "preaches" he turns the congregation into an audience.

    The New Testament does not establish a specific "pastoral ministry" as seen today. While terms like "elders" and "overseers" are mentioned, the modern office of a singular "Pastor" does not appear in the early church's structure. Jesus explicitly warns against the use of titles among His followers in **Matthew 23:8-10**, saying, “Do not be called Rabbi… and do not call anyone on earth your father… nor be called teachers," which can also be applied to titles like "Pastor." His command encourages equality among the brethren, where leadership serves humbly rather than exalting a person through formal titles.
    Furthermore, in **Ephesians 4:11**, the term "pastors" (translated as "shepherds") appears as one of many roles but does not indicate a dominant, official position like the modern pastorate. Leadership in the early church was shared among apostles, prophets, evangelists, and teachers. There was no emphasis on one person holding ultimate authority under the title of "Pastor," aligning with Jesus' teaching against hierarchical titles among believers.
    The New Testament contains no reference to a pulpit as it is understood in modern Christian practice. The early church met in homes (Romans 16:5, Acts 2:46), and there is no mention of a specific elevated platform or designated speaker's stand. Teaching, preaching, and sharing the Word were done in communal gatherings where all could participate, as seen in **1 Corinthians 14:26**, where Paul encourages everyone to contribute.
    The concept of a pulpit, often tied to a hierarchical structure or centralized teaching authority, was foreign to the organic and interactive nature of early Christian worship. Leadership in the New Testament was more collaborative, with multiple elders and teachers leading, rather than a singular figure speaking from a raised position. This simplicity in worship aligns with the spirit of Jesus' teachings against titles and exalting one person over the rest (Matthew 23:8-12). The absence of a pulpit reflects the egalitarian and participatory nature of early Christian gatherings, rather than the structured, clerical format that developed in later centuries.

    • @theeternalsbeliever1779
      @theeternalsbeliever1779 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      This theology is categorically false because Paul specifically mentions "pastors" as being an office in God's government structure in his letters. Christ prohibiting His followers from calling men "Rabbi" is not Him prohibiting someone from being called a pastor. The Bible very clearly refers to God's ministers in His Church as being pastors, both literally and in principle.

    • @1Whipperin
      @1Whipperin ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@theeternalsbeliever1779
      First, the claim that Paul's mention of pastors as an office in the Church validates a formal hierarchical "government structure" misunderstands the nature of biblical leadership and the role of pastors. Paul's letters do mention pastors (one and only mention of pastors in the NT) (Ephesians 4:11), but this doesn't imply the rigid, authoritative structure churches have adopted today. The context shows that Paul spoke of different functions-apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers-for the purpose of equipping the saints for ministry and edifying the body of Christ, not for creating a power hierarchy.
      The term "pastor" (from the Greek word *poimēn*, meaning shepherd) refers to a caring, nurturing role. Shepherds guide, protect, and serve, but they do not exercise domineering authority over the flock. Jesus Himself defined true leadership as service, saying, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant" (Matthew 20:26). The modern notion of pastors as religious authorities ruling over congregations is more akin to the hierarchical structures Jesus condemned, especially when He said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you" (Matthew 20:25-26).
      Christ's prohibition of titles like "Rabbi" (Matthew 23:8) is absolutely a direct rebuke of the very notion of exalting one person over others in spiritual authority. Rabbi means teacher, and the prohibition of such a title was a clear instruction to avoid elevating any man as a spiritual superior. Jesus emphasized equality among His followers: "You are all brothers." The essence of Christ's teaching here is against the establishment of human authority figures within the Church. Whether the term is "Rabbi" or "Pastor," the principle is the same: no human should be placed in a spiritually authoritative role over others-for Christ is the only head of the Church (Ephesians 5:23).
      The claim that "pastor" is sanctioned in both "literal and principle" falls flat. The Bible does refer to spiritual care roles, but always in the spirit of humility and mutual submission (Ephesians 5:21). Nowhere does it sanction the modern-day church office of a pastor who holds unilateral authority over a congregation. Such a notion goes against the spirit of New Testament teachings, which emphasize Christ alone as our leader and direct mediator.
      Therefore, to assert that Paul's mention of pastors justifies today's authoritarian church structures is categorically false. It contradicts both the example of Christ and the biblical concept of leadership as service, not rulership. Pastoral roles are for guiding and serving, but never for assuming control or lording over others. The title of "Pastor" has been misused to justify systems of control and hierarchy that are alien to the teachings of Christ and the early Church.
      Additionally, no one in the New Testament ever held the formal title of "Pastor." While the word poimēn (shepherd) is mentioned in reference to a role in caring for others spiritually, not a single individual in the New Testament is ever addressed as "Pastor" in a title or position of authority. The apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers mentioned in Ephesians 4:11 refer to different functions within the body of Christ, but these were never rigid titles that conferred spiritual authority over others.
      In fact, leaders in the early Church were referred to as elders (presbyteroi) or overseers (episkopoi), but these terms described a function of guiding through wisdom and service, not an official title meant to elevate one person over others. The apostolic example of leadership was based on a model of mutual submission, shared responsibility, and a commitment to servant leadership, not the imposition of hierarchical titles that separated clergy from laity.
      By creating the formal title of "Pastor" in modern times, churches have strayed from the New Testament example and adopted practices that closely resemble the very systems of authority Jesus opposed. Christ alone is our leader, and all believers are on equal footing before Him, as brothers and sisters under one Shepherd (John 10:16). The absence of a "Pastor" title in the New Testament is a powerful indicator that the modern institutionalized office of pastor, with its inherent power dynamics, has no biblical basis.
