This is a fairly concise and precise summary of the three main urban structure models and central place theory.
It should be noted that the three models deal with the internal patterns of land use for an urban area, is city specific as opposed to regional and thus considers cities as areas, while central place theory addresses the positioning of cities across a region and thus considers cities as points.
It's also noteworthy that while no American city matches any of the models perfectly, some do follow one model somewhat, others follow another model. But mostly, cities exhibit some characteristics of all three models together at once. For instance, a city will likely develop outward in rings, but this pattern will be broken up by an interstate running through the CBD. Some of the more prominent freeway exits will start to develop their own commercial gravity, giving rise to a new nucleus, which in turn will attract its own concentric ring pattern. So, a blended conformance to the three models is the norm.
For those who find her delivery too fast, go to settings and change the playback speed to 0.75.

This a good topic and presentation but you need to speak low so the watcher can grasp and fully understand.

Great explaination, but I failed to see the correlation between your last point about HIV in Africa and the theme of your presentation. What am I missing?

So would asian cities be related to the multiple nuclei model? I am doing a project on the city of Busan in Korea and after briefly looking at it they are essentially a beautiful port city featuring lots of water and fish markets as well as seafood restaurants.

      Hello,
These models are for reference purpose only. The study was confined to very specific cities. Some of the Asian cities are considered to be following these model but its not 100% true. Inface no city is exactly same as described by these models but these do help us in understanding how land use & activities are largely distributed.

this is really really helpful! thanks! i got a reading check coming up and was super confused but u cleared it up really well. My only suggestion is that you explain some of the terms a little better because I had to search up what a slum was and didn't understand other words completely.

These largely descriptive models are obsolete, and not used in practice.
