Firewall construction using the new bead roller

- Back on the 78 Toyota Corolla project called Crusty. started on building the firewall using simple techniques with recycled metal. Also get to play with using the new bead roller I built
Your electric bead roller worked really well for that large sheet. You would have had a really hard time doing that with the bead roller as it came. You'd need a couple of extra people to help you with it. You really put a lot of thought into modifying the bead roller.

I did add a couple pcs angle under my truck floor . But I don t have a break or a roller and recycled 16 guage and 18 guage. Put a couple small beads in with the vice and a chisel. And I plan to drive it if someone doesn t like the floor stay out from under it.😂
When you weld the firewall to the cowl, are you going to plug weld it or use that spot welder you showed a long time ago?
That spot welder will get used on this one.
Just one question how are you going to fit the wiper transmission?
That will be custom and it will fit inside the car.

Hey fitzee , I was looking at one of those in a junkyard a couple weeks ago .. It may have been a Northern car , was really rusty for my area . Seeing one about as rusty as yours started , seeing in person again really drove home just how much effort you put in that dang thing .

Man what a sweet bead roller!
If you put an angle more than 90 degrees on the back of your bead roller guide fence it will tighten down to the table as you tighten the front, eliminating the need for additional clamps. Great videos I love the way you explain things.

Hi Tony, do you think the body/firewall will move relative to the roll cage tubes when car is used? How do you plan to seal up the gap between them? Are you planning to roll in some more beads to add strenth? I would be worried flat panel might oilcan.

Once again nice job, firewall are tricky, because of fit and eye appeal .. The toe board came out nice, especially picking up some extra clearance , two inches is a big gain in a small car. Thanks for sharing this .

When I built my gasser I drilled holes in the firewall then put plugs in them to get the bellhousing bolts out

Hello! You started doing body work in the 80-s. Did you do cut and butt at that time? What did you use for a welder at that time. There weren't MIGs then, were they? Thank you!
Cut and butt I never figured out till about 15 years ago. Everything was lap welded or cut to fit the opening. First item I bought when I got out of trade school the first year was a portable mig called a Armstrong 100. Small migs were just coming out what I first got into the trade.
