  • You clicked on this link because you want to know what the scene was like at Shoreline Amphitheater on July 3, 2018. We made this video on a shakedown Street. It’s amazing to see all the different things that people are selling. There’s glass, wood, stones, bumper stickers, shirts and pants and paintings and sculptures and a bunch of different stuff. It’s really wild. Couple of clips at the end show the crowd dancing and having a great time. And the last clip that I put on was a bubble that was floating around for almost a minute. Hope you enjoy this and if you’ve gotten this far reading, please leave a comment ha ha. Have a great day, stay safe, stay healthy, and always be happy.😄😄😄👌

    Thank you for the upload my friend! Unfortunately it seems as though some people have fallen into the deader than thou trap, and that is sad to see. The music is the messenger and like every other living thing it evolves. If the Dead weren't given the freedom to evolve then every generation's judgments would have killed the next. Imagine having people who attended the acid tests complain about every generation of fans that came after. The music and the people it touches must evolve or else it dies. The point is the Dead and their music belong to no one and everyone; to no generation and every generation.

      @@lokalolatigra Yeah. that's what I'm seeing. When I first saw the dead Hartford 83' (trey anistasios first show IIRC) I thought is was so cool how people made newspapers to sell show to show and they made tshirts (a lot of them) at the show! None of this buying 300 from china and setting up a store front. Just some dude and his gf behind their car on a blanket.
      When I stopped going to shows Richland '91 I started to meet ppl who were only there to sell stuff and the hippy crack was becoming more popular which had a bad effect on ppl's desire to steal shit and start fights.
      I became a Ekoostik Hookah head and I've seen hundreds of Hookah shows. (I'm convinced I'm the guy who started with "Hooooooookaahh! in the early 90's") haha

Some of the band was staying in the hotel we were at. I screamed with joy last song on Saturday US Blues started to play. Looked around everyone had a big smile dancing it was wonderful. @jeffmaggie  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, Jerry is always smiling. I’m good days and bad days he always saw the light. And yes he might not want to be done on shakedown Street and I can understand why. There’s a whole bunch of people there and he’s pretty well known in that group of people. He shows up and it’s gonna be a mob scene so I would understand your comment of Jerry smiling because he doesn’t have to be associated with this anymore but I think it’s related just a shakedown Street and not the people but just the scene. Anyway my opinion. Thanks for watching all my videos and have a great day. Jeff.

      I doubt it surprised him to see them all sell out so fast...especially now. Mickey has his own brand of MJ now. All Chemdog, iirc. But 100++++ tickets? Give me a break. I saw Elton John a couple years back, and paid 30$ for my ticket from TM. That was face value..of course they went much higher. But at least I got in the show...I never use my seat anyway. I could go on vacation for a week, cheaper than going to a single show. lol Just to hear all my favorite songs played at 1/1000th of their proper tempo. It's cool Bobby finally getting to be a front man, and be the rock star, he always wanted to be..lol

    Shakedown street? This looked like the people heading in from the lot..Nothing could be further from what a real GD show was like. The vibes are so negative, and the music is just lame. It's all about the money..for everyone involved, i seems. Strangers stopping strangers, just to see what they most they can get from them financially. Most of these people are clearly out of their element...everyone wants to go back in time and go to a dead show...it's the cool thing to do atm. But they don't have a clue what a real show was about. I bet most of the tie dies and GD shirts people are wearing are brand new..they certainly don't look worn. It sucks to see what was, by far, the most important few years of my life(first show in '91). But to see what was the most important part of my life, has been turned into, is sad, to me anyway.

    • @jeffmaggie
      @jeffmaggie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, I’m so sorry you feel this way. You’re right, I do think that a lot of people are wearing their tie-dyes for the first time. And you’re also right without Gery, there’s not really a leader. But, the thing is this. People love the music, not necessarily the environment. So my wife likes the music but she doesn’t really like the aspect of shakedown Street either. And she was not a dead head before I came along. The people in the parking lot look like they’re just doing what they’ve always been doing but in a more organized fashion. There’s the same booths with different vendors and a lot of food and a lot of talk about drugs and a lot of talk about meeting people at the last show. So there is a community in there is hope for the death audience. I feel very strongly that anybody who goes to one of the dead and company concerts is doing it because they like the music and not necessarily all that stuff before. And as far as people doing drugs, that’s been on target for so many concerts for so many concerts for so many years. It’s just natural. We went to a Santana concert in the pot all over the place. So it’s not just limited to the grateful dead. It’s not just limited to Santana. But it is what it is and in my opinion, a lot of the people who I bumped into and who I saw. We’re pretty happy that they were there. Mayor missing Jerry is one of the deepest Karen’s in my life. I’ve never been cabin oh it’s not an award I’ve never had a deeperI’ve never had a deeper cable despair as the morning when my girlfriend called me and told me that Jerry Garcia died earlier that day. I was devastated I was absolutely lost for a minute and didn’t know who I was and where I was. After I calm down and realize that Gery wasn’t there I knew that any concerts there after would be missing that Sherry element. He was extremely vital to the grateful dead and without him it’s very difficult to have a dead show. But there were a couple people who showed up and there were a couple of people that tried. The man from FishDid it for a while and then John Mayer is doing it. John Mayer wasn’t very good last year, but he’s super good this year. I’m sure he’s getting more into the groove on each side and it’s sounding wonderful. He’s able to slide up and down and do lots of interesting arpeggios. It’s fascinating. And the people in the audience are doing their marijuana, doing cocaine doing ecstasy but that’s not really a part of why I go to the show, I go to the show to listen to the music close my eyes and do a little dancing. It’s a lot of fun for me and I enjoyed seeing the show. I hope you get a chance one day I hope you get a chance one day to go and see a dead and company show. I think you’d really like it a lot. And it’s super easy to block off the vendors who are in it just for the money. You’ll see a minutes just too much money for the value of what they’re selling. Caco for the music and go for the open mind that people have some times and try something that might be new but slightly familiar. It’s still a wonderful show and wonderful environment and to see a packed packed amphitheater is quite impressive for a band it’s been around for 50+ years. That’s my two cents and it’s only my opinion I hope I didn’t offend you in any of this. But I just wanted to give you my side of the story. Hope all is well. And I hope that one day you get to see a show. Take care and thanks for watching my videos. Jeff.

      These kids will never know what a real dead show was like.....instead of the audience being one with the band .....it’s more like a drunk fest......the Captain of the ship is gone now....it’s too bad that they will never know the difference....but hey.....let the kids have fun they don’t know any better.

    • @jeffmaggie
      @jeffmaggie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Martha Werbiansky Thanks for your comment, but I respectfully disagree. I went to 111 shows with the dead before Jerry died and to about seven after he died. The energy is the same, the enthusiasm of the crowd is the same, the music is great, and there’s definitely a sense of loss with Jerry, but John Mayer and the rest of them really pull it off. I was watching an interview with Bob Weir and they asked where do you see the band in 25 years and he said well I’m looking up from the top of the stage towards the audience and I see a man playing rhythm guitar and as I get closer and turn around so I can see his face, I realize that it’s not me and it’s somebody else, but the vibe is the same the music is the same the audience is great etc. etc. So you’re right, there’s no show like a dead show with Jerry and the loss is still sharp and raw 25 years later. Have you been to a show? I mean the new ones? If you have, obviously you’ll notice a difference but you’ll definitely feel the spirit and feelThe energy. Thanks for leaving a comment and have a great day and hope to see you at the next show. Jeff.

      Thanks for the comment. She’s a very sweet lady. I’ve known her for about 15 years and she and her husband are awesome. I’ve been to shows with just her and friends and also with her and her husband. He’s the greatest guy in the world. Do you ever get a chance to meet her, you’ll also meet him and he’s wonderful. Thanks for watching all my videos and have a great day. Jeff.

      I have no idea. I was able to splice all the videos together but maybe it gets placed in reverse, if it did, it was not intentional. Thanks for watching my videos and pointing that out, I will certainly check and see how I made the video and if there’s any mistakes. Take care and have a great day. Jeff.

      Yes. And yes again. Hard rock/ metal fan who loves the Dead, but there has always been barriers to this...scene. I skipped Highgate 94, all my friends were heading up, I figured there wouldnt be any fun in it. In the years since, I have come to love what this band gave to the world. I really think the music is amazing, but I have met a lot of people who dont care at all about the music, they want to dress up. Oh well, do what you want. The "older" heads tend to be really cool, the ones who hitchhiked and traded for food back in the 70's and 80's. I have met a number of these cats and they dont pretend to be of a scripted mindset. Free thinkers.
