Rob Thomas is a good dude. Wrote this song about his Mom when he was taking care of her during her battle with cancer. Today Rob's wife is sick battling Lyme disease and he takes care of her. He clearly does not abandon the ones he loves at times they need him.
If you're gone was the song that got me hooked on Match Box 20. Went and bought the whole CD because of that song. Glad I did found many other great songs on it. Then of course I followed his solo career. Lonely No More and Diamonds are 2 of my favorites.
He wrote this song about his mom when she was dying of cancer. There are so many matchbox twenty songs that are incredible so just take your pick next time you react!
VERY highly recommend Rob Thomas singing the acoustic version of "Unwell" (the 'live at Eddies Desk' performance, specifically)... It's incredibly gorgeous and it really showcases his vocals.
As talented as Rob Thomas may be, he originally penned “3AM” when he was but a pubescent lad. Also it is extremely-personal in nature. Indeed the period of his life it is based on is when his mother was battling cancer. And he, even as a child, was compelled to take care of her.
my wife passed 2years ago this WAS HER SONG she suffered from depression OMG IM MISS HER EVERY MINUTE.after what i just wrote, replay the song and go through what i go through everyday
I went to school with Rob and knew his family. It's great to see he has had so much sucess our school is not a large one we live in a rural area where everybody knows everybody, so our community is proud when one of us makes it as they say. Rob is truly gifted, and it was and still is good to hear him and he deserves everything as he worked hard to get where he is.
"Unwell" came out during a difficult time for my teenage son at the time. Diagnosed with MS he said this song was written about him. It's a great song, but makes me cry every time I hear it.
"Push" was the first one I remember from them. The whole "Yourself, or Someone Liek You" album was pretty solid. I particularly like the opener, "Real World," along with "Long Day" and "Back 2 Good."
I"ve requested a song from Rob Thomas SOOOO MANY TIMES! PLEASE do "Street Corner Symphony". not only do I believe you'll love it, it's the perfect song for all of us today!!!!! I believe in the POWER of music and songs like this have messages that bring us ALL together!!!
This guy hasn't made a bad song, in a band, solo or otherwise. He's just amazing. Check out "Her Diamonds" which he wrote for his wife who suffers from a painful disease. I'm not sure which disease. Beautiful song.
I remember when this band came out. Their album had hit after hit after hit. “Push” “Back to Good” “If You’re Gone” “Unwell” Thanks for reminding me how much I love them! ♥️
The best part about the whole band, is they are just as amazing live (if not more so) than in studio recordings. Saw them last year and I really cannot say enough good things about them. Robs got such a beautiful voice
"Real World" is probably my most karaoked song. My favorite is "Downfall". "Push" was a huge hit. Rob Thomas's biggest solo hit was probably "This is How a Heart Breaks".
This song was so popular that it was played out within the first week of its release This is one of those songs that would play on two or three radio stations at the same time almost every time it was on There was a lot of songs like that in the 90s Push is another one of Matchbox 20’s most popular songs🔉🎶💙🔥
This song is so deep. It’s about when his mom had cancer. There are so many deep amazing songs from them. Smooth was the only song with Santana but a great MB20 song you should check out is Black and White people
That was true until Santana released their most recent album in 2021. There's a song called "Move" which features Rob Thomas as well as American Authors. The album also has a version of "Whiter Shade of Pale" featuring Steve Winwood and There's a track called "Joy" with Chris Stapleton as well as a few other artist collaborations with Santana on some of the other tracks.
I love this song! It is one of my favorite Matchbox 20 hits! I love Rob Thomas’ voice! Also check out their hits, Unwell, Push, and If You’re Gone!❤️❤️
I was 23 when when they came out. Matchbox 20 is Literally the soundtrack of my life. My 13 yrs old niece has been to 2 shows with me and she's a huge fan. And my mom, who loved Hall and Oates loved Rob's voice. I've met him so many times. He has an awesome charity called ' Sidewalk angels" helps so many animal rescues. Nicest guy you will ever meet.
YES! YES!!!! They have so many hits "Push" "When you're Gone" Etc, etc, etc... He is amazing! Oh, I almost forgot.. "Street Corner Symphony" it's a song for all that we're going through these days.
I agree with all the suggestions. A few more: "Bent", "The difference", "Downfall", "Rest stop", "Bed of lies", "Hand me down", "Mad season", and so many more. Great band!
I was literally driving down the road when I heard the 1st w lines of "push" and waited for the song to end to see if they said who it was and immediately went and bought record on my way home. His voice has been my favorite since that day in 96. The difference and bright lights are great ones to see the difference. None of their songs sound alike. I still have every cd in my car in a world of Spotify I still have to have my MB20 and Rob solo ready to go.
Took my teenage daughter to a private Match Box 20 concert when they were at the top...we talk about that awesome performance all the time, the lead guitarist flirted with her all night.
Rob is just a total GEM - and SO incredibly talented. Please check out Disease and Bent. Two of his amazing hits.........Have you guys checked out Train yet? Save Me San Francisco is a GREAT song - and so much fun to dance to. You won't be able to keep still - lol.
This song is about the time his mom was fighting Cancer and she was always awake at 3 am and at the time contemplating death. Very Deep!! Rest Stop Unwell Bent If your Gone Leave (which is haunting and a bit disturbing) Definitely songs to check out
I love this song so much. It makes me feel like crying knowing what the subject matter is. Saw them live with Bush/No Doubt and a ton others at Rockfest 1997 at Texas Motor Speedway. Good Times.
Rob wrote this when he was very young. i think a teenager still. its about his mom being very sick. there is a piano version he does live which you really feel his heart
No not true he said in the vh1 live dvd it was written about that period of his life but also said he didn't write it then it was written when he was in Tabitha's secret
You have to see Matchbox Twenty live...perfection! They have many Great songs, Actually ALL there songs are great! Rob also has a Solo album which is one of my favorite!
My mom has been a fan of rob Thomas and matchbox 20 since the 90s and I have a lot of nostalgia listening to them when I was a small kid and my mom still plays them to this day. In fact my mom was a fan of Tabitha‘s secret before they became matchbox 20
Got to see them at the New Orleans Lakefront Arena in 2001. It was a surprisingly good show. Although I always liked their songs, I was just a casual listener of their work. Afterward, I was a bigger fan. I think their last actual big hit was “She’s So Mean” from 2012. I’m going to recommend you react to the video. Between the lyrics and the video, it’s quite funny and entertaining!
Your inability to describe Rob's voice is an almost magical thing. Sometimes words get in our way for when we find words to describe that thing it's magic disappears. New experiences are wonderful. Find all the magic you can.
Rob Thomas has a duet with Joss Stone, their version of a duet by Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty.."Stop draggin my heart around" its AWESOME. I actually prefer their version and I'm huge fans of all of them!
I have requested Joss Stone so many time. If she loves Janice she has to here Joss. Right to be wrong or her version of cry baby which I'm sorry is AMAZING. I have been A Joss Stone fan for A long time. Or right to be wrong is also great
He did some songs at Darryl’s House (Darryl of Hall and Oates). There are so many good musicians besides Rob Thomas like CeeLoo Green. You should check it out.
Great singer and a fabulous songwriter. I have seen him and Matchbox 20 5 times and I can't wait to see them again. Love; Unwell, Bent, Push, If You're Gone just to name a few. And I especially adore; 'Little Wonders' which is just a beautiful song x
The most uplifting and beautiful song from Matchbox is Bright Lights!! If I could straight up pay you to react to it I would! It's my favorite is theirs by a lot!! It also shines Rob's voice in a way that touches your soul!
I Looove Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20! I love this era of music! They have so many great songs! And his voice is spectacular!🤩 I'd like to recommend a song from around that time frame also, called 'Picture' by Kid rock and Sheryl Crow, it's beautiful, but...I have to say, his live version with Martina McBride...Blows it out of the water, more so because of Martina McBrides' vocals on it!! Absolutely AMAZING!! I can listen to it over and over! Beautiful song tho, either way!!👍❤️
Matchbox Twenty. Bringing up the feelz today you guys. My best friend and I played the daylights out of their cassette tape. LOL. We would drive the dirt roads around here with the windows down playing them or sitting outside with the horses. At her service one of the songs she wanted played is Now Comes the Night. Gorgeous song but I can't listen to it again. Thank you for sharing with us. I'm ready to hear more!
"You or Someone Like You" is a album full of amazing toons!!! "Real World" and "Girl Like That" are two more favorites and well worth a listen. Check them out. You should check out The Wallflowers from the same era. "Bringing Down the Horse" is a great album. Check out "One Headlight", "6th Avenue Heartache" or "The Difference" for starters!!
Her Diamonds.. it came out when my big sis was losing her battle w ovarian cancer. Teri was a beautiful human being. This song fit us so well. In the end we listened it together. It was my song to her. My tribute. RIP big sis. 😘
This has always been one of my favorites. MB20 is one of those bands that sounds better live to me. Check out the live video for Bright Lights. You won't be disappointed!
"Grit" or "Rasp-i-ness in his voice"... AKA 'The ability to "shred" their voice'. Just gotta watch a little of 'The Voice' as the coaches talk about it. It's a purposeful strain on the vocal chords to take the clean pureness out of various notes. :)
"If You're Gone" -- PERIOD!!! An awesome Matchbox song. The heights on the official musical video make me a little queasy -- but the production makes it worth it.
Rob Thomas is a good dude. Wrote this song about his Mom when he was taking care of her during her battle with cancer. Today Rob's wife is sick battling Lyme disease and he takes care of her. He clearly does not abandon the ones he loves at times they need him.
'If you're gone' is awesome.
Rob Thomas is a brilliant singer/song writer.
I second that
Add a third to that If youre gone is one of my faves from them
If you're gone was the song that got me hooked on Match Box 20. Went and bought the whole CD because of that song. Glad I did found many other great songs on it. Then of course I followed his solo career.
Lonely No More and Diamonds are 2 of my favorites.
A definite good choice
Such a good song
Yes!! Please do more Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas. So many hits to choose from!!
He wrote this song about his mom when she was dying of cancer. There are so many matchbox twenty songs that are incredible so just take your pick next time you react!
His mother survived cancer.. this is about the hard times when she was battling with it.
He said this was a letter he wrote when they broke up
This is based on his mother battling cancer.
@@sdr7814 nope. That was another song
"She thinks that happiness is a mat that sits on her doorway."
One of my favorite lines in any song.
Literally the loudest part that was shouted by the crowd when I saw them live! Brilliant!!
VERY highly recommend Rob Thomas singing the acoustic version of "Unwell" (the 'live at Eddies Desk' performance, specifically)... It's incredibly gorgeous and it really showcases his vocals.
"I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell..."
Yes! Train is awesome! Calling All Angels, Drops of Jupiter, Unwell….

@@trevorwarren75 thank you!
"Back to Good", "Push", "Bent", "Mad Season", "You Won't be Mine" - you can't go wrong with any of their songs.
“You Won’t Be Mine” might be my favorite!
Back to Good
Yes, Back to Good is amazing.
Guys, close your eyes and point at any song on the first album. You can't go wrong.
Amen to that
You are so right! Absolutely, great band! Yes let's do more!!
His voice is great! He is really talented!
@@angiewhite1402 Not really my style of music. I mean, I didn't think it was until I heard it. The album is undeniable.
True story. Still have it in my car. Yes, I have Spotify but I also have every Rt solo and MB 20 CD ever made in a case for my car.
As talented as Rob Thomas may be, he originally penned “3AM” when he was but a pubescent lad. Also it is extremely-personal in nature. Indeed the period of his life it is based on is when his mother was battling cancer. And he, even as a child, was compelled to take care of her.

Matchbox Twenty is super underrated. They really were something special, and it's a shame they aren't remembered as such.
So many great songs from this band, "Back to Good" "If You're Gone" "Unwell" "The Real World" "Push"
My favorite Matchbox 20 song is "Unwell". It nicely contrasts Rob Thomas' mellow voice and his rockin' voice.
Love, Love, Love Unwell.
Love Unwell!
Yeah, they simply must see the video for "Unwell." It's awesome !!!!
The two deep cuts that always stuck with me from that album were the uptempo “Busted” and the acoustic last track, “Hang”.
Excellent CD all the songs are very good.
one of the greatest albums of the 90s, and it was there first studio album
Unwell, is another of their great hits. "I'm not crazy. I'm just a little unwell." Awesome Rob Thomas lyrics.
He does a stripped down version of this song too. Just him and the piano. It's beautiful.
Absolutely - the acoustic piano version is pretty much perfect.
From VH1 Storytellers...
Amber is a whole vibe. I just love her personality. 💜💜
I"ve requested a song from Rob Thomas SOOOO MANY TIMES! PLEASE do "Street Corner Symphony". not only do I believe you'll love it, it's the perfect song for all of us today!!!!!

Amber’s hair is just awesome! So many different looks. She can head bang with metal, bounce with Rob Thomas, groove with earth wind and fire.
“Unwell”, “Bent” and “If You're Gone” are great Matchbox Twenty songs.
I loveeee if you’re gone
"Real World" is probably my most karaoked song. My favorite is "Downfall". "Push" was a huge hit. Rob Thomas's biggest solo hit was probably "This is How a Heart Breaks".
Downfall is so good. Especially the chorus that comes in
Lonely No More was a bigger hit than This Is How A Heart Breaks.
Facts! Downfall is one of their bests.
YES! LOVE MATCHBOX TWENTY!
I saw these guys in concert in June. They were AMAZING! You should definitely listen to more from them, you won’t be disappointed!
