Walter doesn't hate Hank, he was annoyed and jealous how Walter Junior always sees him as a weak chemistry teacher, and Hank as a badass. Also Walter was really-really drunk, I think his liver after all that chemotherapy wasn't able to normally handle even half of that alcohol
Anyway, he was a jerk
He wanted to be in charge.
I think he was also bad because skyler had just now thanked Elliot and gretchen for the money he himself had earned.
He was expressing his emotions after the whole night culminating over that everyone believes Gretchen and her husband paid for his treatment and are seen as heroes more then him.
He liked it. He was good at it.

I think the rot spreading in Walt’s house symbolizes Heisenberg taking over his personality. Walt has always been trying to keep that side of him under control, but in the end (of the episode), he realizes that he can’t just walk away from the thrill that being Heisenberg brings him. He puts down what he needed to kill the spread of the rot and announced Heisenberg’s presence to what he presumes are new drug dealers getting started up. He’s not lying to himself anymore and saying that his meth-cooking days are “over” after they sell off what they have.

Love how Walt leaves the WHITE paint inside symbolising that he left his old Walter white self inside as Heisenberg takes over. Vince Gilligan is a genius so many little things like that throughout the show

On Cranston's acting where he can just switch on Heisenberg and you see the change in the eyes; there is another great actor that does this which will relate back to Cranston and this show. Anthony Hopkins played Hannibal Lecktor, and every time you watch him, you saw the fierce intelligence but animalistic brutality behind those eyes; and in another film The Elephant Man, he plays a sympathetic character who feels pity and heartbreak at John Merrick (the eponymous Elephant Man), and you see how soft and loving his eyes are in it. Great acting. And Hopkins wrote a letter to Cranston when BB was finished, telling him his acting in this series, was the finest he has ever seen! This is a guy who was a protege of Laurence Olivier, who has worked with some of the greatest stage actors of all time, saying that about Cranston. He is astonishing as Walt and Heisenberg.
Travis Fimmel also manages to convey a lot through his eyes, another great actor.

That last scene is so good. The way the light is reflected in his glasses as he walks towards the camera. And it´s like the camera is attached to his head while he is walking, so the whole environment is shaking as he walks, but his head is locked and stays still and locked on to his goal.
You got it right! Walt strives for power and that episode highlights it most, the beef with Hank, ignoring Skyler's advice to rest and the ending with the competition. He understands the power that Heisenberg has to other people and as the show progresses he lets his alter ego control him more and more
One of my fav eps of the earlier seasons. Not a super fast one but some great character development from Walt. The transition from Walter Hartwell White to Heisenberg was really on display here.

"I don't know how far he will go." oh how to time travel back to the pilot and warn myself of how miserable the interim between seasons would be. Y'all can binge and I respect that you can hold yourselves back and wait to watch on reactions. I would have cheated by now to learn of the pink bear! Most common thing i hear from reactors is something like "omg i have to/wish i could watch the next one right now!" and all the fans watching on AMC as they came out would count themselves lucky the 13 weeks of the year you got to catch it on sunday. To be clear this is not a shaming, but you are insightful and i am getting the same feeling where i have to wait an amount of time to see your reaction to an iconic set of 13 weeks in my life..... and those other 39 weeks, for those 6 years felt like a watered down 2020. keep up the good work! It really sucks I have to wait to see your finale reaction but this vid made a subscriber.
I like the way the show really rubs it in that Walt wants power more than anything else. That scene where he forced his son to drink is so uncomfortable because it really shows Walt as the controlling abuser he is
It's amazing some people get to the end of the show still saying "He was a hero and did it all for his family! And nobody appreciated him!"

He is a fascinating and fun character, and he does love Jesse and his family... but he very clearly becomes a power hungry monster throughout the show. And the monster only gains more territory as the story goes on.

I was surprised that Walter has 'White' paint cans in his hands in the shop which he leaves on the counter before going after the junkie guy. Hinting he's not In Walter White mood anymore.

You girls can't think just because there is a another spinoff series (Better Call Saul) and a movie (El Camino) that ANY character is safe. Better Call Saul is a prequel series that takes place before Breaking Bad. You can not think: "Oh, there is 6 seasons and this or that character is safe"... Nope, Breaking Bad does lots of flash forwards and flash back scenes, plus there are tons of suprises.

And I loved your description of Walt as a struggle between the angel and the devil. At some point over the course of the show you come to the realization that one of those two never stood a chance. At the core of who he is, it was always the eventual victor.

i think that scene with hank was him getting mad at the reality that jesse looks at hank as more of a father than him. i think ppl will have different perspectives on walt's relationship with his family depending on how u have personally experienced family. personally, walt's life is very understandable, he's kind of resigned himself to death and made it his mission to make money for them through doing dangerous work that gives him the respect he thinks he deserves, once that's done and he quits and realizes he has a life to carry on, he sees "the rot" settling in, he sees everyone pities him for being a cancer patient, he isn't allowed to work, have authority, his son(in his eyes) much rather enjoys hank's company over his, and their entire family likes is such a classic suburban lifestyle family it's suffocating for him, and personally it would be suffocating for me too. the man does not belong there and uses heinsenberg as an escape a guilty pleasure. anyways it was a shitty move of him to force his son drink but i think he was too drunk to even realize what he acc was doing and just saw the bottle as a symbol of dominance or fatherhood, he wants the battle back that hank is taken away from him, hank is the reality that jesse and walt's relationship has diminished

Heisenberg is ashamed of Walt Jr. He doesn't see Walt Jr. as a real "man", or a suitable heir. That's what the tequila scene is about.
I don't think he's ashamed of Jr. He just got angry because Walt Jr looks up to Hank and thinks of him as a badass, but not Walt. Hank always steals Walt's thunder, even in Walt's bday party in very 1st episode. Walt clearly holds some resentment for that. That's why he asks, what are you looking at him for? He's like I'm your father, only approval you need is from me and you should be looking up to me, not him.
@@dcharith Yep, I think there was a moment in the first season where Hank himself comments to Walt Jr. that he should trust his father and have him as a "first option" for help more before thinking about calling his uncle, because Walt could get hurt by seeing his son relying on his uncle more than his own father.
While I think that Walt cares about Hank, I also think that Hank triggers alot of the insecurities Walt has about himself. Because Hank is this successful and popular guy, who everyone respect and know they can rely on. And Walt really wishes he was that kind of guy.
