    I like the DIY scrap yard stuff over the tacticool off the shelf stuff most are obsessed with, probably because I've spent the majority of my life poor. This is more exciting to me than spending hard earned money.

    Once upon a time, I thought the expensive store packs were the only way to go. Dave taught me to put a trashcan inside... Wow! I never would have thought of that, and it is really helpful!! Then he put a trashcan on a Roy Croft. Wow again! Then he disposed of the trashcan and used shelter canvas instead. Wow again! Now, the trashcan instead of a Roy Croft for trapline duty. Wow again! Dave, thank you for teaching me to think out of the box. I really appreciate what you do.

    Thank You very much for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to do these type of videos. Most guys with this kind of knowledge would sell it and yet you give it away for free. Much appreciated and thanks!

    Hey Dave thanks g or the Dit vid. I actually took my old sea bag and put an old plastic trash can inside of it. Fits like a glove too. You have a pocket on the side of the bag as well as the grommets and latch at the top of the bag to inch it closed. The sea bag straps are also very comfortable on the shoulders. Thanks again for your time and instruction.

    Thanks Much Dave ! Fantastic Project. This is going to be perfect for Ice Fishing. This will house a half dozen of my tipups, extra hooks, skimmer, cook and fire kit, chow, pretty much everything I need for a day on the ice and I'm pretty certain I'll be able to hang my ice chisel from it. To me this is the cats meow. I got a wooden sled I built with my Dad years ago, kinda tough getting in with it in spots, (can do but tough). Wish my Dad was still alive to see this, so i could tease him for not thinking of this. Thanks much Brother. You made my Christmas. Peace n the best to you and Yours!

    Very nice DIY. Those packs are very good for trapping for sure, since its solid and you dont have the traps sticking in your back. Holds alot of gear as well, easy diy, thanks for sharing Dave. I think i have seen these put in a alice pack as well and thought of doing that with my alice pack,

    • @DavidCanterbury
      @DavidCanterbury  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The can will fit a large ALice but then you have the cost of Pack and frame as well-

    • @kullcraven
      @kullcraven 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a trapping pack, i think the pack you made is better for the use. I wouldnt use the basket in an alice if i was using it for trapping. I only have a medium alice so wouldnt work i guess. I thought it would be a good idea for over all usage of a pack, since everything you have in the pack would pack and slide out easier, and you have a bucket in your pack for collecting water if need be. Tho as a trap pack, you would want what you made up, for your going to be putting wet, possible bloody gear in and out of the pack. Love the DIY dude.

    That pack basket is also a great idea for use during small game hunting. Be good to through your squirrels or rabbits in after their skinned and gutted, which will keep them clean and you clean. I have used bags before and they crackle to much. Many uses for this. Good video Dave! Also, gave me an idea! I like making pouches from paracord, I can use a trash can to make a sack that be good for tools and such!

My gifting target is young boys, but I would also love to know quality reading for young men as well. Thank you in advance, Sir. It's a true pleasure learning from you. Another great video/idea Dave, Gonna have to make one of these for the dirtier jobs. Been doing alot of Squirrel and Rabbit hunting, and I was trying to figure a way of carrying small game out of the woods more efficiently without having to carry them on a rope. or put them in the back of my jacket. I think this might be perfect :).

  • @Ruger41mag
    @Ruger41mag 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good and simple. I think if I had enough shoulder strap I would make a turn around the top piece of wood so that the straps are not pulling on the melted holes but on the wood strip .... might last longer that way, A small laundry basket or trashcan with a foot actuated flip top might work good too, but also might add cost and weight. Thanks Dave.

    You could also drill two holes in the side of the basket and run something like tie-wire or a zip-tie through the holes so you could "hang" tools/etc on the inside of the basket instead of having to pull everything out to get something like a pair of sidecutters that might be on the bottom. Just a random thought. Good idea Dave.

    Rubber washers or a dab of RTV or silicone caulk on the bottom screws and a wine cork stopper for your drain hole would let you use it to catch rainwater, etc.

    Flip top laundry hamper,step on foot pedal and the lid pops open. Great for two guys in the woods,fliping each others lids and putting in stuff. Could use hand woven straps and double washer bolt head side of strap or wooden spacer thru weave. I think while watching video and jot down what stuff people thorw away in, on or around the road side. Bottle neck threads on 16oz. bottle for grommet on strap.

      I'm sorry Dave for Frederick's comment. I have one of those trash cans with the foot pedal and that was the first thing that came to my mind too how could I bolt that round can on a square frame lol. I am collecting traps and was wondering how I was going to carry my animals without 1 carrying it and 2 getting blood all over my self. This pack would do the trick What a simple solution. Thanks

    • @nol1379
      @nol1379 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Clayton Leach. I said to use a flip top clothes hamper, not a trash can. That is to lined with cloth bag so as to allow wind to blow thru. It was supposed to be used in a urban environment as personal backpack kit. It was meant to have a cover for the pack that would be easy to open on the fly, not to make fun of Dave.

      Making fun is NEVER my intent !!!! Having fun is.. Have a Merry Christmas my Brother. I am medicated heavily for back pain. Please forgive the miss understanding. Dave is my buddy even though we have never met. He will just shake is head and groan. maybe? lol My filter is a little off sometimes. I like your idea better but I did think of my flip top can lol. Gotta go lay down.
      I have been a student of his for three years, bought many items from him. Thank you for coming to his defense and setting me straight.
