My attampts to tempt the resident Barbel & Chub from the River Severn from a swim I've never fished before don't always turn out as hoped for but plenty of bites keep me interested despite visits from a couple of pleasure craft during the session 🤷♂.
All my fishing so far has been between Bewdley and Bridgnorth. Can't recall seeing any motor boats but the canoes are in great numbers at times! In fairness, most of them are very careful and keep well over. I think they must be well briefed by the hire company in Bridgnorth. I assume you're above Bridgnorth but possibly below where the river is navigable? Just returned from 5 days on the river. Very high to start with. Fishing not easy but I had some Barbel up to 9.03. That's probably it for me til next season. 👍
Hi Andrew, I've fished at Bewdley/Northwood and around that area on the BAA card but mainly on the Teme but I have a Lymm card too and fish around Shrewsbury. As for the navigable part of the Severn there is the Royal Boat Club and Pengwern at Shrewsbury and Canoe Hire available in the area too. As for ' Private' craft I'm not sure but seems likely that individuals may have mooring facilities on the river or hire motor boats. There is an organised cruise boat (Sabrina Boat) in the town centre. Canoes are the main craft I encounter and althought the majority are respectful of anglers occassionally you get some that don't appear to know to avoid fisherman's line by hugging the bank and I've had caonoeists totally unaware of my presence on the bank as they blissfully paddle their way up/down the river 🤷♂. Well done anyway for getting out and catching some Barbel - river has been too high for the past month for me to feel safe on the river bank so waiting for better conditions before venturing out again 🤞. Thanks for watching and continued support of the channel 👍.
Hey Malc - thanks for watching. Tried fishing a few new swims, on the Severn, this year but only one produced any Barbel - watch out for next months upload 😉. This stretch is on the Lymm A.C. card (Rossall) near Shrewsbury. As for the bites there were plenty more knocks and rattles, especially on the right hand rod with meat hook bait but mainly only a few really hitable ones 😟.

Thanks for the information Nick! Don't blame you. Not worth taking chances. 🙂

Hi Nick. The barbel proved elusive but plenty of bites on a good looking stretch of river. Where is that stretch?
